Visanthe Shiancoe on Packers: "Everybody is jumping on their jock"

Clearly, Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe has been reading PFT.  He noticed that two of our four writers making Super Bowl predictions had the Packers winning it all.

That’s why he plans to watch his division rivals on Sunday against the Eagles.

“You’ve got to watch a team like the Packers — they’re the new
Cowboys,” Shiancoe sarcastically told Yahoo’s Michael Silver after the Vikings loss last night. “Everybody’s jumping
on their jock
, like they’ve actually gone to the Super Bowl, and won it. Give them credit. They did good in the preseason. I mean, good. Good job. That’s good stuff.”

Classic.  I picked the Packers to win the Super Bowl, but wasn’t especially confident in picking them this Sunday against Philadelphia.  It sounds like Shiancoe is thinking the same way.

“You know what, Philly’s defense is pretty good, too,” Shiancoe said. “It always is. We’ll see how [the Packers] fare against them.”

Well, you’re already a half game back big guy, but keep worrying about the headlines and what internet hacks, sorry, “experts” say about your division rivals.

  2. wrath4771 says: Sep 10, 2010 11:20 AM

Shiancoe is right, the Packers looked good in the preseason last year and stumbled out of the gates so I don’t put a lot in the preseason performance. Then again Shiancoe sounds like a guy that thinks winning the division last year matters. I’m pretty sure the Saints can tell Vikings and Packers fans which win matters the most.

  3. RedsDouche says: Sep 10, 2010 11:20 AM

Pull your jock strap out of your a$$ Visanthe. Quit whining b/c you guys lost just as everyone predicted. Your team is par even with the almighty Brett Favre. Vikes go 8-8 while Shiancoe whines all year and Favre makes excuses for his horrible play b/c of his ankle, shoulder, diabetes, false teeth, etc.

It’s nice to see that the opponents players are focusing more on a division rival than their selves. Maybe the Queens will fire Chilly and hire Lovie after the Packers win it all this year. Stanko sounds a little aggitated after his teams loss last night. :)~

It’s too bad PFT didn’t install a tab at the top of the page, that would lead readers to an NFL weekly pick contest, which in turn would provide a season overall winner. An excellent prize could be given out after the season.
But alas, all we get are Florio takes. Whoopie.

Shank is just pissed bc his only claim to fame is when his johnnies were hangin’ out on the postgame show last year…that, and he’s looking up the NFC north TE depth chart at Finley. I realize it’s only one game, on the road, against the Super Bowl Champions, but the Vikings seem like they are ready to implode. Favre was rusty, and why? Because he skipped camp. Has nothing to do with Rice being out because Favre never had a problem before having a go-to-guy, never in Green Bay, not in NY and not last year in MN…excuses will pile up fast, it seems.

  19. Strick says: Sep 10, 2010 11:32 AM

    Shiancoe’s just pissed because:
    1) Vikes lost.
    2) He secretly hates purple.
    3) Saints shut him down completely as soon as they started trying to.
    4) Porn career not taking off like he’d hoped.
    5) Jermichael Finley is by far the best tight end in the NFC North.
    6) C’mon, I mean… his first name is Visanthe! Sounds like some middle-eastern liquor or something…

Guess Shiancoe can’t accept the truth. He won’t end up with half of Finley’s stats.
    Boo-hoo.

  22. MuskyHunter2542 says: Sep 10, 2010 11:34 AM

WOW, sombodys a bit bitter that the NFL writers are not picking The Vikings to get to the superbowl.
    OMG guy!!!

They are writers, not prognosticators! If they where, maybe Rosenthal, and Florio can give me some lottery numbers.

  23. VikingsWorldOrder says: Sep 10, 2010 11:36 AM

Vikings went down to the big easy and held the Saints to 14 points on offense. Unfortunately our offense couldnt find any consistency. I’m as proud now of my fav football as I can be after a tough loss. 2 of the 3 best corners being out, and we still shut them down relatively speaking. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous how people are ripping the Vikings losing by 5 points on the road to the defending super bowl champs. Great game and we’ll get them next week. Maclin and jackson are licking their chops, waiting for that POS Packers secondary, cant wait for Sunday. When both teams are healthy and at full strength, the Vikings are the far superior team, not even close

  24. Citizen Strange says: Sep 10, 2010 11:36 AM

I am picking the Steelers to win the Super Bowl. I am also picking the Packers to beat the Eagles on Sunday. I would pick the Eagles if they still had McNabb.

  26. alphamail says: Sep 10, 2010 11:37 AM

Shiancoe’s right, there’s a lot of hype. But it’s not the Packers’ fault if the media think they can win a Super Bowl. Settle down, dude, and take care of your own business.
Between him and Longwell they already sound worried about not just the Packers but now the Lions. Typical beta talk from the most beta team of all time.

  28. Ambrose says: Sep 10, 2010 11:39 AM

He thought he would get all the national TE attention this year and now realizes he will be second-fiddle to a Packer, and he has his undies in a twist over it. He sees the writing on the wall, just like everybody else. Yes, the Packers haven’t won anything yet, but so what? All we’re talking about is expert opinions and predictions and analysis from persons working closely within the industry, person in-the-know, and they can be wrong. But they get paid to say it anyway. Aside from upsetting a Viking player or fan, I’m OK with it. Otherwise, I’m not impressed either.

  29. Doral4720 says: Sep 10, 2010 11:40 AM

As a Packer fan I like our chances. I could care less what Shiancoe, Viking fans or even the experts that pick the Packers say. The fact of the matter is no one knows for sure who will the Super Bowl. If they did they would all be laying down the cash in Vegas. Having said that, I like the Packers’ chances a lot better than the Vikings and 99.9% of the rest of the teams. All you can do is play one game at a time and try to stay injury free. Talk is cheap you have to win it on the field.

I mean, it must suck to know that the only way you can win, is with the officials helping you. The game from last season and the one last night were laughable when you look at how many calls went against the Vikings and for the Saints. Even the announcers made those remarks. Great game refs, I mean… Saints.

  41. lebowski says: Sep 10, 2010 11:46 AM

That is another downfall of being picked by everyone under the sun to go to the SuperBowl. Not only is it a huge jinx, but it pisses off the other teams who feel they are contenders. That said, the Vikings are darling picks constantly… and as Visanthe himself says, you’d think they’d actually gone to the SuperBowl, and won it. Like, ever.

Poor guy, even he realizes that last year was a fluke and he’s judging his success on us. Why, might you ask would he do that?
Because even he knows they got lucky last year. Enjoy your return to obscurity Stanko! Finley is twice the TE you could dream of being and you’re team will be lucky to be 6-10.

I can’t believe I am agreeing with a Viking. He’s right, the pre-season means next to nothing and last year was the same thing, a strong preseason set up big expectations that fizzled to a 4-4 start for the Packers. The Eagles were a playoff team last year and should be again this year so Sunday is no gimmee.
The only gimmees left in the NFL are the Vikings in a playoff game. At that point, you just know they are going to self destruct and hand the other team a W. The fun in watching is the new and creative ways they come up with in choking. Of course it helps to have an idiot head coach that sends 12 players into the huddle but no worries for the Viking fans, they will concoct a new way to blow it this year if they should be fortunate enough to get that far, not looking good so far.

Rodgers is decent, but who’s he gona throw to all year, Donald (duck) Driver, this should be a comical season for this division. Maybe after the Vikes beat the Pack twice (again, hahahahahahah) they’ll shut up, but I doubt it, they are gluttons for punishment, not to mention just plain gluttons. (this means your fat)

Shianco sounds like a guy who plays for a team that got it’s ass kicked in last night after spending the entire off season talking about how they were gonna take it to the saints, and get revenge for the beating they took in the NFCCG. If they gave out trophys for talking big, and then making excuses when you get beat down, the Vikings trophy case might not be as empty as the dome will be by mid-season.

  79. Bob Nelson says: Sep 10, 2010 12:29 PM

Why are the Packers blamed for all the vikings troubles? The Packers send the vikings money to keep the franchise going (supplemental revenue sharing)
If it isn’t the Packers it is the officiating crew at the vikings game that get blamed for vikings woes.

He’d fit in well with the Queens’ long, proud history of great coaches like Chilly, Denny Green, Les Steckel.

Last year the Packers were the “favorites” and they went undefeated in the “preseason” and then they proceeded to get beat twice by the Vikes, the Steelers and let’s not forget……the Browns and the Mighty mighty Bucs. I think Aaron Rodgers is great….for fantasy football players who only want the stats but with all of his 3 year fanfare, let’s not forget that his record is about .500, no playoff wins, no division titles, no MVP’s. I think Rodgers will truely be a great QB once BF retires but for the time being, he will remain haunted by the thoughts of BF whoopin’ on his ass not once but twice!

The Eagles were a playoff team last year and should be again this year so Sunday is no gimmee.

Don’t be a tool. The calls were not bad last night. They were no worse than any other NFL game. The Vikings lost, plain and simple. I’m not a fan of either team. As a fan of the Lions I’ve seen my share of awful calls, every game it seems. When you’re an awful team you don’t get the upper calibre refs and those things happen. Last nights refereeing was nowhere near that. In fact, with the exception of a questionable missed call on the INT, almost every call I saw that was or wasn’t called wen t in the Vikings favor. Let us recap:
1)On a fair catch, the returner is not allowed to throw a block before the ball gets there anymore than the coverage team can make early contact. Should have been 15 yards closer to the endzone to start your TD drive.
2)What in the heck was with that false start penalty against Breese. That was ridiculous.
Every single offside or false start penalties were fine. They were legit. If you’re talking about the “catch”, sorry, but that was no catch. Last I checked, if the ball ricochets off your hands into your body and your hands don’t get under it before your body hits, it’s not physically possible to have your sternum make the catch. Not to mention, they called incomplete. There is absolutely no way that you can overturn that, period.
The simple fact is, both teams played particularly bad. Vikings fans should actually feel lucky. If Breese hadn’t missed on a long pass, had his receivers drop 3 more and they hadn’t missed 2 field goals, this could have been a pretty bad one. Instead of pointing at the officials, tell your QB to get to camp earlier so he can get on the same page with some of his receivers and then tell your coach to try running the ball when the Saints change gameplans and only come with 3 down lineman. That’s your teams fault, not the refs.

“Sure our offense stunk up the place, our QB checked out of run plays just to miss wide open receivers, and our coaching staff openly said they ‘had no adjustments’ for the Saints D… but we didn’t lose by like, you know… a LOT.”
    LMFAO.
Winning is everything, but if you’re a grown man wearing PURPLE, you’ve already lost. ;)

Oh, and it’s great to know Bob Nelson is racist as well.

    Jumping on their jock?
Does that mean he thinks the Packers are “stupid dope fresh” too?

    CincyAllDaWay (right…) says:
“OMG…What a douche bag you are!!! Are you a fan of the Queens or the Ravens?? You guys piss and moan constantly about how the officals constantly steal games from you. Did it ever occur to you that if your older than dirt QB had gotten his ass into training camp that maybe his timing with his receivers wouldn’t have been so far off??”

First off, I’m not one of your tween peers, no need to say “OMG”. Secondly, if you aren’t familiar with football, officiating (good or bad) can have a significant effect on games… if it didn’t, there would be no need for officials, correct? So, when the calls are piss-poor at best and the officials admit to it afterward (NFCCG) it makes fans of a franchise frustrated. The officials certainly aren’t the only ones to blame. Coaching and Play-Calling played a huge role in the Vikings loss… Not to mention the Saints playing well. My point is that this is now two games (back to back between these teams) that the officials have made ‘calls’ that helped the Saints…

Haha this is a hilarious thread. With all the smack talk this offseason I thoughtVikes fans would have been a bit more classy. I mean, ya lost to a good team. Blaming the refs….never gets old. Just a bunch of Chilly followers.

I’ll bet the Pack lives up to most of the pre-season hype, if for no nother reason that Aaron Rodgers is frigging good. Now excuse me while I go bang my head against my desk.
Then again, if the Pack fails to live up to the hype, as it has the past 2 years, I’ll be dancing on that same desk. However, I’ll still try to avoid rubbing it in like some of the regular 13 year old cheeser posters have today.

    The Vikings are pretty close.
Once Jared Allen actually has an impact, and Brett Favre stops crapping himself in front of every blitz, and the “Williams Wall” stops getting humiliated, (LOL) and Childress earns back the locker room, and Peterson learns how to pick up a blitz, and Sidney Rice gets back w half the year over, and Berrian learns to run a route, and McKinnie doesnt need a f’n CART RIDE over a hurt finger (LOL), and you find another corner, and your coach understands what to do against a 3-man rush…
you guys should hopefully start “clicking”.

Looks like the state of Minnesota had to bust out the purple drank after last night’s embarassing loss. I find it hard to believe you guys can right this stuff without laughing.
Typical Vikings fans, they have themselves convinced they won even though they were behind in pts when time ran out.

Hey V-Shank. Their franchise actually HAS done that. Maybe not recently, but they have …unlike a certain franchise.

  142. greenngld says: Sep 10, 2010 2:50 PM

Clearly, Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe has been reading PFT. He noticed that two of our four writers making Super Bowl predictions had the Packers winning it all.
    ———
you need to calm down with the patting yourselves on the back thing, thinking everybody and their brother reads this site. You think you’re the only people who picked the Packers to win? Pick up a SI issue and see that you and just about every other writer in the country has them going to the superbowl.
    douche

You missed it Dude. KR was being a funny guy. The key was “clearly”.
I agree Rosenthal might be a douche, but today, you are as well.

I couldn’t help but laugh at this comment…”Everybody’s jumping on their jock, like they’ve actually gone to the Super Bowl, and won it. ”
Ummmm! Excuse me Visanthe, but if you check the record books you will see that the Packers HAVE been to the Super Bowl and actually WON it. Not once, but THREE times. And the ast time I checked, that was exactly three more times than the Vikings.
I know I’m taking his quote out of context, but I couldn’t resist. :)

Everybody’s jumping off the Vikings jock and onto the Packers jock. Think Favre will take a backup qb job in GB so he can get to another Superbowl? He should.
