Ravens say "Hard Knocks" helped them prepare for Jets

The Baltimore Ravens didn’t just watch game tape to help them prepare for their Week One game against the New York Jets. They also watched HBO.

Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron says that by watching Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the New York Jets, he learned some information he wouldn’t otherwise know about the Jets’ defense, information he can apply to the game plan he’s preparing for their game on Monday night.

“Yeah, there was probably a lot revealed in that strategically, the way I viewed it,” Cameron said. “At least what we were jotting down. There was a lot of stuff in there strategically.”

The Jets have embraced their role on Hard Knocks and said they love showing off what they do to the rest of the league. But some coaches have said they would never allow cameras inside their locker rooms, team meetings and practice sessions.

The Ravens apparently fall into the latter camp, and they think that by seeing what the Jets were doing in training camp they have a better chance of beating the Jets in the regular season.

Can an hour a week of reality TV really give the Ravens a leg up? We’ll find out on Monday night.

  1. Bengals were on Hard Knocks last year. The Ravens played them twice. They got beat both times. Once again the Ravens yapping doesn’t match reality

  2. I don’t think anything valuable was shown. Cameron need to STFU and get ready for this mauling Flacco going to get in 2 days!!!

  3. This coming from the same guy that said, “We need your thumbs to go this way.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for the Jets to lose, but Cam Cam is a dumb dumb.

  4. I highly doubt the Ravens learned anything on Hard knocks that would give them an advantage. Although Rex Ryan is a moron so who knows. I would think most teams would not want cameras in their meeting rooms and practice sessions, but the Jets had no choice. Their owner, coach and fanbase need attention so bad they would sell their souls to get out from the Giants shadow. So it doesn’t shock me one bit they did Hard Knocks. Or if they let some important info slip while doing it.

  5. Considering the fact that Cam Cameron’s offense couldn’t score on the COLTS DEFENSE the last 2 years… I really don’t care what he may have learned watching Hard Knocks.
If he doesn’t have more variety with his offense, knowing the defense won’t help him. People say the pressure is on Flacco this year, but I have kept my position that Cameron will be gone this year if the offense doesn’t take some huge steps forward. His play-calling has been very suspect.
Either way, this should be a GREAT game for football fans.

  6. You think this might be one of the most watched games in Monday Night history?
Just a lot of psychological warfare.

  7. This is just posturing on the Ravens part. They have nothing from ‘Hard Knocks’ that’s going to have much of an impact on this game.

  8. “Bengals were on Hard Knocks last year. The Ravens played them twice. They got beat both times. Once again the Ravens yapping doesn’t match reality”
Good point. I haven’t seen HKs this season but the Bengals brain trust is probably a little more guarded than the jets arrogant leadership.

  9. I don’t think the Ravens gained anything from watching the show, if they even watched it at all. I think they are just saying this to try to get in the Jets’ heads. Does anyone really think the Ravens would learn more about Rex Ryan’s defense through watching hard knocks than they already knew from him being the D coordinator there?

  10. “# County K 66ers says: September 11, 2010 8:12 AM
Cam you should have waited until after the game to reveal this.”
You bring up a good point which leads me to wonder if Baltimore is simply BSing this to maybe sway the Jets to change their strategy….
Either way I think it is moot…Funny stuff…

  11. Show them the rest of the article, MDS, you damn buffoon… where it says:
“However, Cameron backed off his comments a bit when asked if he’ll be able to utilize the information Monday night against the Jets.
“I’m not going to say that yet,” Cameron said. “You’d have had me if I’d have said ‘yes’ right there. That was pretty good. He had me, didn’t he, because I could read that one already? So, you can’t say it because I didn’t say it.”

  12. We already know the Jets weakness. It doesn’t matter because the Jets will shut down the Ravens offense,Flacco will struggle,Rice might get his usual dump off pass for a 20 yard gain. Rats start off 0-2. Falling under all that preseason hype.

  13. How do the ravens fall into that category??? Weren’t they on the show twice???? Def atleast once, sooooo how does that make any sense?
Prepare to be terminated little ray ray

  14. What a terrible and pathetic bluff by Cameron.
What is he going to do?
Put oil under the tires of Kris Jenkins’ golf cart?
    Hide Rex’s M&Ms?
lock the doors to his car so the jets dont put packing peanuts in them?
or maybe he will go back in time to try and kill john conner so he doesnt play on sunday.
This is just ridiculous, Cameron says hes learned more about the Jets defense from watching Hard Knocks and considering the Jets run the SAME defense as the Ravens all he has to do is look at his own teams defense.
and btw, you say the Ravens fall into the latter camp about not allowing cameras into their camp, THEY WERE THE FIRST TEAM ON HARD KNOCKS!

  15. cam cameron is full of it. besides, revis wasnt even out there. do you think the jets are going to play defense the same way as they would without revis? he completely changes the defense.

  16. I forgot about Cam, Jets win big!! Now if he would picked up Ted Ginn Jr. and his family Baltimore would have won in a route.

  17. hahahahaha wow wat a joke. theyrse absolutely nothing on hard knocks that helped them. wat did they write down the one play from brunell to holmes that sanchez called. gimme a break.

  18. Can’t wait till we crush these guys. nothing is more fun than watching ray lewis jump on the pile after the play is over. no ed reed…no ability to cover….shonne greene is gonna run ray over. and as for cam cameron….please….his embarassing coaching career lasted all of one year.

  19. The only way the Jets “win big” is if they start givin’ out points for runnin’ their mouths. Does Jet fan really think Shonn is gonna run all over the Ratbirds? I don’t. And even w/ patchwork secondary BAL will be able to handle Sanchez’s wet noodle.

  20. For a lot of teams they would manage not to give much away. For the team of big mouths and the constant spew of verbal diarrhea it doesn’t surprise me at all that there was plenty of info in there for the other teams.

  21. Watch the Jets mid-week injury report for a sense of how their season is going to play out. It’s not going to be pretty.

  22. I cannot wait until week 17 when the Jets are sitting at 8-8 and none of these blow-hard jets fans on here are running there mouth….. wait they will be talking still, they will have 50 reasons they were not 16 – 0 and how somehow they got screwed! Your QB is trash, and teams will figure your Defense out this year. One injury of your team will most likely cost you the season!

  23. Yeah no.
I watched every episode and if you think you can really gleam any kind of advantage from it, you’re crazy.

  24. for those who saw the Ravens show “Game Plan”, Cam Cameron stated that he has not seen any of the Hard Knocks episodes. someone is using ProFootballTalk to get inside the Jets’ kitchen

  25. Jets finish 3rd in their divison at maybe 8-8. Rex gets fired in two years. Sanchez will be a bust….no mystery here…..

  26. New to the NFL MDS? Ravens were on HK’s in the past. And like a previous poster suggested, publish all the damn quotes. Stop riling up all the 30 something virgins that respond to posts on here.

  27. Things the Ravens picked up from Hard Knocks:
    1. It’s good to catch the Jets without Santonio Holmes.
    2. If you put a stink bomb in the defenses meeting rooms they will fill your car with packing peanuts.
    3. The Roscoe Diner is not a good place to conduct negotiations with the agents of your star Cornerback.
    4. Braylon Edwards will catch 100 balls this season because his beard has its own gravitational pull.
    5. That watching Hard Knocks for tips on beating the Jets is like watching a Ray Comfort video and learning the origin of life.

  28. “Can an hour a week of reality TV really give the Ravens a leg up? We’ll find out on Monday night.”—–somebody has to win the game, the inevitable outcome doesn’t tell us whether an HBO show influenced it or not. If the Ravens outplay the Jets, it wasn’t because of Hard Knocks.

  29. Silly Jets fans. Crack me up. All this scat talk gets you nothing. I can’t remember the last time The Ravens lost to a team with a mediocre passing attack. Oh wait, 3 years ago to the Titans….. They went 13-3. Flacco’s rookie year… The ravens generally dismantle teams that are geared to running the ball.

  31. Are the Jets the same team that went 9-7 last year, and were aided by two wins over teams that packed it in in preparation for the playoffs? Just checking.

  32. Let me get this straight, Cam Cameron says that he saw things on Hard Knocks that tipped off what the jet defense is going to do, is this the same Cam Cameron who as an offensive coordinator of San Diego, needing a first down to clinche a playoff win against the Pats and after Tomlinson gained either 4 or 6 yards on first down, IGNORED TOMLINSON THE NEXT 2 DOWNS, when Tomlinson was the best rb in the NFL……the game that got Marty ball Shottenheimer fired after a 14-2 season………….the same Cam Cameron who used the 9th pick of the 2007 draft to select Ted Ginn, with players like Willis, Revis and Beason available……….hey Cam, YOU ARE DELUSIONAL

  33. …And the Jets learned all that they need to know about the Ratbirds from watching “Project Runway” on the Lifetime Network.

  34. Show them the rest of the article, MDS, you damn buffoon… where it says:

I’m starting to notice this more these days, a shame that things get omitted to to make a more interesting story.

  35. That’s ridiculous… And if anyone has ever seen any of the Hard Knock series, you know they don’t touch on strategy and game planning. If you call game planning “we need to run the f***ing ball,” or “hit some f***ing body”, we can all understand why Cam Cameron is the same guy who wasted Miami’s first round (#8 overall) pick on Teddy Ginn and later proclaimed proudly in a press conference “Miami, Tedd Ginn is a Miami Dolphin” and gave the thumbs up. Need I say more?
    Tibor said it best…
The Bengals were on Hard Knocks last year. The Ravens played them twice and lost twice.
This should definetly be the best game going in the NFL this week. I expect a physical game with a lot of sparks! Just what we need in the NFL. The Jets will play the villain. Bring it!
And to all of those who spend their free time hating on the Jets, you should probably be paying more attention to your own teams situations, especially you Miami Dolfans.

  36. They should do a hard knock special on the Raven’s male cheerleaders. I wish something witty rhymed with ‘hard knocks’. Hmmmmmm. 😉
    Ravens suck.

  37. The Ravens have a crappy secondary. The Jets have a crappy quarterback. Something has to give in this game. Stay tuned.

  38. I’m sure that Cam Cameron will employ the same brilliant strategy that helped him guide the dolphins to a 1-15 record in 2007.

  39. Ron says: “I think Cam has been watching something that rhymes with “HARD KNOCKS”
    POTW- POST OF THE WEEK

  40. I can’t wait to see T Rich and/ or John Conner run over Ray’s ass like a Ford over a Rooster, circa Eddie George 2003… remember this:

Ummm… all I saw there was Ray Lewis making a tackle and stopping Eddie George from going anywhere.
But if you want to call that a stiff arm, okay. A stiff arm is supposed to stop someone from tackling you. You know… like how WILLIS MCGAHEE does it. And I don’t need a video to prove it, because it’s well-known how he runs. Eddie George… ha, what a joke.

  42. The Jets are overrated… the Jets fans are overrated (barely avioded a blackout to this game)… Sanchez blows, Tomlison is old, Revis is overrated and out of shape… Ravens win and these fake Jets fans go back to being Yankess fans and forget about football.

  43. It’s hilarious that some of you might actually think Cam was being serious. Sadly PFT left parts out in order to create something out of nothing, because they know 90% of their readers are too lazy to read the real article.
Ravens begin the season 1-0 after beating the Jets on Monday night, and a crappy HBO special will have had nothing to do with it.

  44. HAHAHAHAHA
    STUPID, SILLY JETS FANS!!!!
WHEN HAVE THE RAVENS LOST TO THE JETS…
    UMMMM, NEVER!!!!
    RAVENS OWN YOU ON MONDAY!
    BOOK IT!

  45. Cam Cameron is a moron who almost presided over a winless season… probably because he watches TV instead of doing really work… maybe he can play Madden 11 to learn the Jets playbook!

  46. Cam Cameron is a moron who almost presided over a winless season… probably because he watches TV instead of doing really work… maybe he can play Madden 11 to learn the Jets playbook!

  47. Ravens dont need an edge. They are the superior team. The wets are paper blowhard tigers… no QB and last years fluke season will soon be revealed for the fraud it was.

  48. “The Ravens apparently fall into the latter camp, and they think that by seeing what the Jets were doing in training camp they have a better chance of beating the Jets in the regular season.”
how do they fall into the latter, when they have been on Hard Knocks twice?

  49. I love how everyone’s just hating on the Jets here. I’m not even a primary Jets fan, I support GB first, but the Jets are my second team. Not because Fav-ruh was there for a year, but because of Rex Ryan. All of you hating on him are so pathetic.
“Wah-wah he’s fat, has a big mouth, and is yammering on about stupid shit.”
That applies to 90% of this site, minimum. Before you point out the stick lodged up the other guy’s ass, be sure to pull the log wedged up your own.

  50. @ tacious….. One of my favorite moments. I still watch it on YouTube…lmao. A Ravenator, it doesn’t matter when was the last time the Jets beats you. If you wanna go there about losing records…1-6 for the Pats with a fluke playoff victory. 7-9 season for the Rats.

  51. Bengals Hard Knocks showed they had NO TE, NO backup QB, NO LT and inconsistent play from the FB position.
Also showed their Special Teams improving because of that back up RB from Abiline C.
And the Ravens did what with that?
    Cameron did what in Miami?
    Did what in Baltimore?

  52. @jjraven
The Jets are overrated… the Jets fans are overrated (barely avioded a blackout to this game)…
Uh, they’ve sold out every home game since 1984. The cheapest ticket in this stadium is $105. That’s why it didn’t sell out until recently. If those were the prices in Baltimore, you’d have 10,000 people in your stadium.

  53. Should be a good game Monday Night. FG may well decide it. Sanchez sucks and our secondary is suspect. This is where it will be decided.
@ All you Jest fans talking trash – I hope you are man enough to get on the post op blog and eat your crow. I won’t predict a Ravens win because its the first game in your new stadium, buy you all seem to think you are going to run us out of the gym. You, your fat head coach, his overrated QB, and his vaunted defense may be in for a surprise. I think you underestimate the Ravens. That’s good. Keep doing so.

  54. there are no secrets in the jets defense…. they’re blitzing from all over, playing man coverage, and daring you to make the play. whats gonna make the game for the ravens isn’t what the offense is able to do as much as what the defense is able to do… they’ll be daring sanchez to win the game, and i think that the ravens secondary without ed reed favors sanchez’ ability to go and win it. dustin keller will be splitting seams for big plays, braylon edwards is finally catching the ball, cotchery has as good hands as anybody. the O line should keep sanchez safe… the jets need to come out with the full house backfield now that they have richardson AND conner. I think the jets could put in some serious work by running a set with LT and two fullbacks. play that power O, pull the left guard and have the left fullback crash down, outside tosses, i like that idea… i like the jets chances without ed reed though, i dont think the front 7 will do enough work to make up for the weak secondary when the jets have the solid O line and fullbacks like they do. I’d love to see the terminator come out and knock ray lewis on his ass a couple times man, that’d be so sick on the isolation. too bad rayray likes hiding behind his buddies, on and off the field.
