Julius Peppers sacks, strips, hurts Matthew Stafford

New Bears defensive end Julius Peppers made a big impact late in the first half today against the Lions, sacking Matthew Stafford, stripping the ball, and causing Stafford to leave the game with an apparent right shoulder injury.

The fumble was recovered by the Bears, setting up a late field goal that narrowed the Lions’ lead to 14-13 at halftime. But the injury may turn out to be much more significant.

Stafford was on the sideline afterward with his jersey, shoulder pads and helmet off, wearing a baseball cap and the look of someone who wasn’t expecting to play again the rest of the game.

UPDATE: Stafford is out at the start of the second half and has been replaced by Shaun Hill.
