Mankins deal nixed by lack of apology

Roughly two weeks ago, the Patriots nearly got Logan Mankins back.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots and Mankins had made enough progress that they were nearly ready to announce a deal that resembled the contract Jahri Evans got from the Saints.

Mankins had privately apologized to owner Robert Kraft for his public comments lambasting the Patriots.  But when the Patriots asked for him to issue a public apology, Mankins refused and “became offended.”

Now he reportedly no longer wants to play for the team.  Period.

It seems crazy that this is what is preventing Mankins from returning to the team. But the issue has to be very serious when they were so close on money terms two weeks back.

It’d be interesting to know who came up with the idea to request a public apology.

Kraft should swallow his pride on this one and chalk it up to a contract fight.

I’m sure that Pats fans are happy that the team’s #1 focus is on winning.

F-ck Mankins, he’s the one who made this personal. I don’t blame Kraft one bit for asking for the apology.
By the way, do they look like they’re missing Mankins against the Bengals????

Of course they are missing Mankins. Stupid remark.

Mankins apologized personally, but he wont’ do it publicly? F him. In the heart.

The Pats are just being dicks. Get the deal done and hold a press confrence and let Mankins talk about how he never wanted to leave and loves the franchise. Sort of how the Ravens handled Ray Lewis a few years ago. Ray got angry shared his words about the organization. The team didnt respond, they just held a love fest presser when Ray returned and signed his deal.

Actually it is refreshing to know that sometimes it is NOT ABOUT THE MONEY.

Don’t miss him one bit. Brady has a campfire going in the backfield singing kum-by-yah every pass play.

They’ve scored on all three of their first drives, and Brady has enough protection to take a nap….
and you say MY remark was stupid?

They ASKED for an apology and they got one. All they tried to do after they got it was to get a victory lap when they could have been better than that. They are NOW the LeBron James Of the NFL. Stay classy New England (and I thought the organization HAD been classy until this) just like LeJerk.

I don’t buy the report…that would be stupidity on their part to ask for another apology. They haven’t made Moss publicly apologize for whining about a contract. Why would they do it to Mankins. Something doesn’t smell right on the story in general. It’s just not like them to do that.

we don’t need mankin we do just fine without him…and the patriots are a classy team.

    What’s so un-manly about saying “Im sorry”…?
Saying I’m sorry is being more of a man or woman, than being a whiny arrogant a-hole looking stupid trying to talk your way around a situation.
Say “I’m Sorry” de-fuse the situation, …. those who know the whole story, will certainly forgive,
if an apology wasn’t necessary…the whole thing will be forgotten & all it cost was 2 words.
By the way…..don’t believe everything you read in the papers, or innuendos you hear on TV…..
If there is nothing to excite or stimulate the public….they will “create” something….
Try watching a “game” with the sound off….it’s very relaxing…and all the info you need is there…..

This could well be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

    F robert kraft.

Refusing to apologize publicly makes me doubt the sincerity of the private apology.

  22. HomelandDefense says: Sep 13, 2010 11:14 AM

if this is true then the Patriots should be ashamed (Im a Pats fan). Bottom line is the guy apologized to Kraft and they were about to get an ALL PRO guard back. What are they more concerned with, winning games or their perception?
And they didnt miss Mankins much this week, but they will when they face teams with great D tackles, like Minnesota. There will be days they miss him, and 3 and 1′s where they miss him.
Dont fool yourself into thinking All Pro players are a dime a dozen.

you piece of crap rednecks need shut up about Mankins…The guy is one of the FEW PEOPLE who aren’t all about money…you pieces of crap are always talking about how bohoo they make so much money well atleast mankins cares more about pride then some paper.

  24. Idan Solon says: Sep 14, 2010 3:59 AM

If a man makes public comments about someone that are unwarranted, that man should apologize publicly.
