Jets-Ravens will be delayed "at least" 30 minutes

The first regular season game at Jets Stadium will have to wait a little longer.

Ravens-Jets has been delayed “at least” 30 minutes because of thunder and lightning in the New York/New Jersey area.  (It’s 6:15 and is about pitch black outside my window.)

It’s unclear if this could affect the timing of Chargers-Chiefs, the second game of ESPN’s doubleheader.  (Which already has a very late local start time.)   UPDATE: Chris Mortensen says the Chargers-Chiefs will start on time and probably be joined in progress.

For now, the stands have been cleared at New Meadowlands Stadium and there will be another weather update in 20 minutes.   Time to go eat a goddamn snack!

UPDATE:
Looks like it won’t be 30 minutes.  Kickoff will be at 7:25 ET.  ESPN2 will carry the Chiefs-Chargers kickoff, which is scheduled for 10:15 ET.

Not to worry — Ray Lewis set that up for effects before he offers up Sanchez to the gods for sacrifice.

That’s not it at all for the delay. the jet thugs just want more time to molest the woman they have cornered in the locker room.

Maybe they should have built a dome like the Oilers used to have.

Professional sports should be played in perfect conditions at all times. Your team and mine. Let’s go. No wind, no cold, no rain, no snow, no groundskeeper. That overpriced stadium should have a roof.

I have checked this site for news bits for some time…never feeling compelled to comment…until now.
What is it that is so appealing about signing off that way? You take something that was informative and turn it into an opportunity to offend people.
Is this the type of thing I have to look forward to now? I sure hope that it was one moment where your better judgement escaped you Greg.
    Seriously…it is just not necessary.
Report…and leave it at that. The rest…we could all do without.
    Thanks.

Maybe some sports, but not football. If you can’t take a little rain or snow, then maybe football’s not the sport you should follow.
Let me guess: Colts fan, right?

Nobody gets hit by lightning at a game!!
An extremely rare lightning strike at a stadium would hit the highest metal which would be one of the light towers.
    This crap ruins things like
-wimpy NASCAR people who won’t drive in the rain (put the right tires on dummies) and wimpy baseball who refuses to play in rain and snow.
The NFL used to always take place regardless of the weather. This is baloney.
The economic impact of a delay is far more costly than the remote possibility of a lawsuit succeeding because of someone struck by lightning!!
Once again the BS East Coast media bias is going to screw West Coast fans once again.
They won’t broadcast the evening game until the
    Monday afternoon game is over.
This sucks and there is no reason for it.

Gotta tell you that I’m laughing my ass off at the fact that the stadium that will be hosting an outdoor Super Bowl in the dead of winter is hosting a game that’s being delayed BY RAIN.
Ok, so there’s a little T&L but they could have put a retractable dome on the damn thing. Come on, what’s a little lighting among friends.
BTW, a little story: most of you have never seen the opening game of the season, the College All-Star game. It had basically become a non-event because the NFL teams just took the rookies out back to the woodshed and beat them severely. The very last game was called off by lighting and heavy rain. After that game, there was never any call for continuing the fiasco (NFL 31 CAS 9 Ties 2) Ah, good times. :)

More like Rex asked for the extension so he could a) make the white castle run and b) take the subsequent dump that those things usually prompt!

    Jets-Ravens delayed 30 minutes.
Jets offense delayed (30+60 or) 90 minutes.
I wonder if that performance will hurt their Power Rankings.
    Ah, oh! Patriots next week.
    I smell a bust!
