Joe, you funny little meathead, sad that apparently your life and this world revolves around football, and yet… your a Raiders fan. Kind of like Roger Ebert’s favorite movie being Gigli.
Also, Name the geogrpahic region that has had 8 straight black outs and for a bonus 2 points, name the NFL team that has had 63% of its home games blacked out since 1995.

Football is a Blue Collar sport in a white collar town. The city is also the largest military town in the nation and this city was developed on that premise, therefore a vast majority of the population has roots into other cities, cities with a stronger passion for sports, San Diego will never be accused of being a sports town simply because it has more than sports to offer unlike the majority of Sports city’s. With the cost of living in San Diego through the roof, and the economy in the shat hole, there is no chance for alot of those diehard football fans to pay mortgage/rent, bills, gas, and still pony up the $400 + to go to a game.
By the way, all you direct tv people, i think youll soon learn that the San Diego game will be regionally blacked out on Direct TV as well, unless they lifted that ban. Youll be forced to watch the game at a bar…. but hell, with gameday draft specials, half off appetizers, free parking and no traffic….

San Diego is already expensive enough as it is….you can get DirecTv Season Ticket for $400 and 55″ LED for the price of 8 crappy home games.
I personally blame that d-bag A.J.Smith and that clueless Spanos family.
I can’t wait until they move to Mexico City.
Hopefully Smith gets canned at seasons end.

People in LA are already Charger fans. San Diego is just down the road. In fact all the diehard NFL football fans in LA bought tickets for the Chargers home opener and it still didn’t sell out.

I’m a native of San Diego and a lifelong charger fan, and I wouldn’t even go to the game with a free ticket …
$25 for parking, $9.00 per beer , $8.00 for a hotdog …that’s still a couple hunded dollar day right there..
And to watch them play Jacksonville ? They suck…and they have the ugliest uniforms in football ..I get a headache watching them..

Are you freaking joking? I’ve been a Jaguars fan my whole life, agonized as the team struggled with blackouts last year, and now that I’m all excited because my home team is coming to my new-ish home (lived in San Diego since 2007), the fart-knocking game’s going to be blacked out?!

The Raiders were able to sell out their season opener, on Monday Night Football against the Chargers, thanks to a deadline extension from the NFL. But, the remainder of their home games were not shown on local television, because the games didn’t sell out. The Raiders finished the season tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for most TV blackouts in 2009. But, blackouts are nothing new to Oakland fans, as the Raiders have sold out only 25 of 88 regular season games, since returning to Oakland. The Raiders had 3 games with attendances under 40,000, with their lowest attendance coming in week 11 against the Bengals when they drew only 34,112.”

Let me guess. There are just too many incredibly fun and awesome diversions for people in or near San Diego for them to be bothered with selling out a home opener. Right?
Football starved San Antonio fans would have sold out this game weeks if not months ago. It would not bother me a bit to see Spanos pack up his team and head to San Antonio. Avoiding the LA wasteland would be a good idea too.
I would buy season tickets to see the San Antonio Chargers next year in an instant.

This won’t be the only blackout for the Chargers. They’ve got some real turd home games (Jax, Ariz, SF, KC, Oak, Den) Also, Ego-maniac GM + clueless owner + 2 of your best players willing to commit career suicide = fans won’t buy overpriced tickets when they live in the best leisure city in the country. You people who don’t live in Diego just don’t get it and never will. There is so much to do on a Sunday afternoon in this town it’s ridiculous. That being said, I’m a season tix holder…but I completely understand why nobody wants to go. When I was in college we used to run a cable from our apartment onto the beach and watch the game on the sand while throwing horseshoes, drinking free beers in the company of some of the most beautiful women in the world. You morons from Pittsburgh, Green Bay, DC, Oakland….you wouldn’t know anything about that. And if it’s Blacked Out, everyone will listen to it on the radio and be just fine, because in the end we live in Diego and you don’t.

As a charger fan i can honestly say management has shown that they are not willing to spend money on quality players. Chargers have not improved in anyway, and i think fans are seeing this. also jim steeg resigned for the chargers and would not explain why? i wouldnt be suprised if their is something up the spanoses sleeve. sign vj and mcneil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
