Forte, Wilson, Crosby named NFC players of the week

Bears running back Matt Forte, Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson and Packers kicker Mason Crosby have been named the NFC players of the week.

Forte received Offensive Player of the Week honors for having 151 receiving yards and 50 rushing yards in the Bears’ win over the Lions. Forte had two touchdown catches and looked, through one game anyway, like he can play the Marshall Faulk role in Mike Martz’s offense.

Wilson received Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in a 17-13 win over the Rams. Wilson grabbed two interceptions, recorded a sack and blocked a field goal. He now has 25 interceptions and 21.5 sacks in his NFL career, and is one of only 10 players in NFL history with at least 20 of each.

Crosby was named Special Teams Player of the Week after he kicked field goals of 49 and 56 yards. The 56-yarder was the longest in Packers history.

A kicker named player of the week?? I guess, most of the NFC looked like sh*t this weekend, even the teams that won. Yeah, you GB

uh, it’s special teams player of the week. If there were no outstanding return plays, a kicker is going to win it.
    This is not uncommon.
Kicking a franchise-record FG deserves it.
Don’t worry…. we all had to be first-year NFL fans once too, exactlyright21.

Well, where are all the diarrhea-mouthed nay-sayers who, between last year and last week, were saying Forte was a such bum?
(Hell, I couldn’t believe he was falling to the 3rd-5th rounds in most fantasy drafts–I stole him in all 3 of my leagues).
I had to say it SO many times before that it’s no big deal to say it once more for everyone’s benefit:
Forte was playing INJURED all of last year.
(Hence the surgery right after the season ended).
Much diffferent player (and offense) now that he’s healthy!! SEE?

Wow some of these “powerhouse” offenses sucked this weekend. Yeah, you MN

That’s where the part about “Special Teams” comes in….kickers, punters, and return men.
There’s been special teams POFT for quite awhile now. It’s Wednesday, by the way.
The punter for SD that had to make half the tackles on KC’s return coverage should get it for the AFC, although it’s sure to go to McCluster.
I don’t expect too many teams to look that hot against the Philly D. The fact that Mcfatty has taken on the Mike Sherman approach of finishing games, doesn’t help. Playing a prevent after holding the Eagles to jack squat was the reason Vick was able to run wild. Green Bay hasn’t been able to step on a team’s throat to finish them off since Fritz Shurmer and Ray Rhodes as DC’s have left…Capers has to man up and tell MM to get some seeds.

The refs at the Lions/Bears game should have been named Defensive players of the game. They stepped up their game and snuffed out the game winning drive when it counted.

man do i hope crosby has finally figured out his confidence and accuracy issues from the past two years. it would be a big boost to the packers if they get some consistency in the kicking game

  9. backdapack10 says: Sep 15, 2010 2:39 PM

Mathews had 3 sacks, 7 tackles, a forced fumble, a QB KO and stuffed Vick on the 4th & 1 to end the comeback…that is Player of the Week status!
    GO PACK!!!!

exactlyright21 — you’re either a Bear or Lion fan ! You obviously have an axe to grind with the Packers, and you’re not coming-out-of-the-woodwork like a Viking fan.
Man up — show your allegiance.

Jesus — learn how to spell your team ! (you were misspelling yesterday, too)
BONUS: Attention Packer buds — look out for No1BillsFan. We’ll likely hear much the next few days from this turd. Very similar to ER21, but more abusive/potty-mouthed…

I’m a happy man we stuck with him during his slump. Congrats Crosby, it’s well deserved.

They must have made this decision before Clay Matthews was credited with his 3rd sack today. He should have been defensive player of the week.

Stop slurping up all the premature media slobber over your team and shut up with that presumptuous sh1t–you guys sound just like BiQueen fans.
It’s fine if you want to spend your day trading homoerotic barbs with them on PFT, but don’t start doing all the same braggadocious blowhard paper-champion chest-thumping crap that they do on here (and everywhere else), too.
It’s a long season, and a lot can, and does, and will, happen. Nothing is guaranteed.

A good argument could have been made for Jordy Nelson as well. 31.2 per return average over 5 returns.

NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
    Not TEAM mvp…………
You see……….. next week we will have the same thing happen, a special teams player will be selected along with an offensive and defensive.
    Learned something knew didn’t you!!!

    @PkrNboro -
Don’t pick on Saintsarebest — product of the New Orleans school systems — spelling isn’t the strong suit down there. I’m not sure they even offer English as foreign language (because we all now it’s not the native language of the area).
@mattsgo – I’d vote for Nelson over Bing as well.

Those were right down the middle too. He could have hit from 60.

i’m with you on the forte thing dewey. i picked him up in the 3rd round…… and i’m a die hard packers fan. bears should be alot better this year with martz calling plays and with a little health. any idiot could see martz would use forte like he used marshall faulk. i honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see forte outrush adrian this year. here’s to a hard faught year between the packers and bears………. and to the vikings finishing last in the division.

Supersuckers nailed one from 35 yards out for some serious coin.
    True story.

Yeah I will admit Matthews had a good game. But as a Die HArd Cardinals fan I must say, wilsons game had more impact… 2 picks. 1 sack many hurries, bLOCKED f.g AND A FUMBLE RECOVERY. tHAT IS ALL AROUND greatness. And as the story states one of 10 players in NFL HISTORY with more than 20 picks and 20 sacks. GREAT STAT!
