Apparently I’m one of the few people who watch football that isn’t a complete moron. Read the rule, watch the play, it’s a catch. ACCORDING TO THE RULE, it’s a freaking catch. I’m not sure whether this is some sort of reading comprehension problem or what, but the rule is fairly clear.

This is a new one: someone hits the ground, but they’re still “in the process of falling”. Right.
He turned over. He wasn’t “falling” or anything, he was deliberately turning himself over to get up. He didn’t drop the ball, he drove it straight into the ground. Many of you will recall that this is commonly referred to as “spiking” the ball. The fact that people are actually arguing that this wasn’t a catch is just mind-boggling. You’re a moron if you think it wasn’t.

Actually, in regular speed, it’s still clearly a catch, which is why the ref signaled for a touchdown. You’re a moron.

Ok the people saying he should have held onto the ball until the officials ruled it a touchdown…..HE DID. The Zebra right at the goal line signaled a touchdown. And to the others saying how Schwartz is whining…..you’re either illiterate or a complete moron. He’s been asked time and time again about this play and said over and over again that they should have put the game away earlier and that was not the sole reason for their loss. The question asked how the players felt about the play and he answered. So please learn to read or stfu because you look like an ignorant tool.

It did happen in 2006… Idiot… Berrian caught a touchdown against the Lions… It was taken away… Same deal…Payback is a *****.
It wasn’t a last second thing so it wasn’t made to be a big deal.
I agree the rule is a bad one, but it is a rule and it wasn’t changed then so it shouldn’t be now.

The rule is u have to have possesion all the way thru the catch. If u watch the play in normal speed n not slowed down how the highlights show it u see that as his body hit the ground his right arm (same arm the ball was in) is on the way down this means the process of falling is not complete so when the ball hits the ground it becomes an incomplete pass. To also show he didn’t put the ball down look how the ball squirts out of hid hand as it hits the ground. In slow motion it looks like he was fallin for linger than he really was. That’s the reason it even looks close to being a catch. Regular speed shows it is clearly incomplete

If u havent beeen paying attention by now mwatso28, the call would have been right if at any time Calvin bobbled the ball, which he did not. But anyways the games over not complaining you guys won, its over. I sure hope you would win thoough after we run the ball up the middle 3 times than punt during 10 offensive possessions. Now while your at the store buying some baby wipes, pick up some diapers because your gonna shit yourself when you watch yours bears this sunday against the cowboys.

There is nothing I hate worse than a player or coach who cries after a loss. Be professional. The referees were. They called the play correctly because they knew the rule. The people who are now crying are apparently the only ones not familiar with this well known rule. Here are the facts. That’s what I deal in…facts. The Bears won. The Lions lost to a clearly superior football team. Calvin Johnson didn’t know the rules for wide receivers. That is a fact. Bears rule…enough said. Now I’m off to fedex the lions some baby wipes so they can clean themselves up.

Those of you claiming that he let go of the ball because he saw the ref signal the TD need to watch the clip again. Neither of the refs who he was facing put their hands up until after he let go. If CJ expects us to believe that’s what happened, he’s a straight-up liar, and you believers are straight-up gullible.

Not a catch….maybe Mega should have paid attention the rules in the most important play of the game. In addition, I believe the Bears got screwed more than once on this very rule. Two years ago a playoff game was on the line in Houston; the ruling resulted in a loss, and a trip home without the playoffs. What comes around goes around…

People keep saying “rules are rules”, but was the rule applied correctly in the first place? I think it says “if a players goes to the ground in the act of making the catch…” But the catch was already made before we went to the ground (he possessed the ball, two feet, he even moved the ball with his hands to demonstrate control), not “in the act”, the “act” had already taken place.

The official DID signal TD, look at it again.
And for those that are talking about the rule leaving out room for interpretation, have you actually read the rule? There is a TON of gray area in there meaning the officials HAVE TO INTERPRET. Heck, even the former VP of NFL Officiating said as much.

Forte actually scored on his 4th down run at the goal line, and there’s no way you can take that away from him, other than a technicality in the rulebook. He didn’t break the plane of the goal line, and according to the rule book (and the scoreboard) he didn’t make it.

Congrats Mr. Bling Guy! The ref directly in front of Calvin Johnson DID signal a touch down. He was set up to signal and started went to raise his hands as Calvin pressed off the ball. The side judge with the best view determined it was a touchdown before the ball was lost.
