Miami takes a look at Adalius Thomas

Veteran linebacker Adalius Thomas visited the Jets on Monday.  The Jets, who reportedly planned to sign Thomas after Week One, have not yet done so.

If the Jets remain interested, they may have competition.

Per a league source, Thomas had a workout with the Dolphins on Tuesday.  He was cut by the Patriots earlier this year, three seasons after signing a big-money free-agent deal.

The Dolphins play the Jets and Patriots on consecutive weeks, starting on September 26.

Clinton Portis takes a look at Adalius Thomas.
Dat a package. mmmhmmm. Dat a package.

Surprised. The Phins like them young. We’ll see.

With Odrick out for the next 2+ weeks, this might be a good signing for the Fins. They need help on the outside and Thomas has the ability to move around and plug holes. He’s past his prime in my opinion and at times a bit lazy in his reads, but he would make a decent option for Miami right now to help their wounded defense. Also, i’m not exactly sure where he would fit in on that Jets defense, they seem to have all of their defensive pieces in place and have little need for an average LB. In the end it will be up to Thomas, but Florida I believe is where he started in Jacksonville, so it may come down to where his roots are.

Belechick has no loyalty, if Thomas could help him win, he would have kept him. Based on what he did in NE, I think both the Jets and Fins should ignore him.

    Roosevelt Colvin wasn’t available?

LOL. So Miami essentially traded Jason Taylor for Adalius Thomas.

Thomas can still wreck a game when he wants to. He got fat and happy with a big contract. That’s over now… I’m a Pats fan and I hope neither the Jets nor the Phins sign him.

AT is definitely Miami’s answer to not winning a playoff game in 10 years LOL

No, the Phins let Taylor go. How’s he doing with the Jets? Has he made it to a game on time yet?
I doubt that they are going to sign Thomas.

Thomas is fine if you do not ask him to think and/or follow assignments…His opinion of himself is alot higher than his playing ability…which isn’t much.

  11. FinFan says: Sep 15, 2010 10:08 AM

No other choice. Fins will sign him most likely. Now we’re down to Odrick hurt, Merling hurt. What other scrubs are avail? Sign him.

Rex Ryan ran Baltimore’s D for a few years, and Thomas played in the Pats D for a few years. This could be one of those signings on a pay-to-dump [your knowledge] basis.
But, Thomas disappeared after his big contract in NE, so if he’s trying to show what he’s got on a 1 year contract, who knows what we get out of him.
Wonder if this says more about that 2 week timeline for Odrick then anything else…?

Neither the Fins nor the Jets will sign him because here’s how any interview with AT will go:
COACH: Thanks for coming in AT. What can you tell us about the Patriots defensive schemes and in particular your role therein?
AT: Well, uh, it’s kinda like Madden 2009 only different. Yeah.
COACH: Thanks for coming in AT. We’ll be in touch.

Why do u guys keep calling him AT I understand those are his initials but they call him AD it’s always been that since his days back here in Baltimore

  17. Dolfan34 says: Sep 15, 2010 10:41 AM

    Marshalllaw305,
We released to make way for the young guys. If you haven’t noticed, since we let JT go, Merling is out for the year and Odrick will miss at least a couple weeks. I would think AT could have some value to this team but only as a depth player. If he has his head on right and he’s in shape he could be a decent rotational guy. We brought in Douglas and Grant to be depth guys too but I guess they’ve seen better days. The Jets are nuts to sign this guy. Their defence is good, it’s their offence they need to worry about.

  18. finsbooyah says: Sep 15, 2010 10:50 AM

Uhhhh I don’t get it. Misi and Wake played really well on Sunday and Alama-Frances, who basically won a starting job, didn’t play and should be ready to go next week. Dansby also rotates to the outside. OLB doesn’t seem to be a position we need to upgrade at the moment.

  19. FinFan68 says: Sep 15, 2010 11:08 AM

Signing thomas would be stupid. We lost a DE for a couple weeks. Are there any decent NTs available? That would make more sense since Starks could go back to his old (normal) position. Getting Thomas because of Odrick would be like signing a TE when the center gets hurt…BTW we could use a decent center too

  20. Pastabelly says: Sep 15, 2010 11:10 AM

The best way to make Adalius Thomas look good is to put him next to Ray Lewis. Yeah, that actually seemed to work.

  21. PirateFreedom says: Sep 15, 2010 11:12 AM

He might wake up and play twice a year against the Pats but I guarantee you that doesn’t worry the Pats at all.

  22. prophet of the light says: Sep 15, 2010 11:35 AM

I hope he does play for Miami. He can suck at pass rushing and run stopping and coverage all day long.

  23. scrapdawg12 says: Sep 15, 2010 11:45 AM

So why haven’t the Eagles looked at Adalius yet? With Stewart Bradley having his brains scrambled and Akeem Jordan sucking, I think Thomas would be an upgrade.

  24. smithopher says: Sep 15, 2010 12:25 PM

@ any and all miami fans – HA HA HA. everybody talkin mad sh*t about the Jets signing JT, “oh, hes washed up,” “oh, he’s not gonna be productive for the jets” well I’d take JT over AT any day of the week. JT showed he’s got it in him to play against a solid offense, he shed blocks and made plays against the ravens. front office should’ve made the move on JT when they could’ve, the guy is still beast.

  25. Rmbay says: Sep 15, 2010 12:38 PM

I don’t think Odrick’s injury has much, if anything, to do with Thomas.
It might be Channing Crowder’s mysterious ailment that has the F.O. concerned. Remember, Thomas can play inside.

  26. LucySkyDiamonds says: Sep 15, 2010 12:49 PM

The Dolphins probably won’t sign him, but even if they do he won’t be a starter. However, you have to imagine that Mike Nolan would best know how to get something out of him.

That’s about right. Something sticks about AD. No team picked him up through the entire off season and training camp??

  28. 2buku4u says: Sep 15, 2010 4:48 PM

We don’t need the dude…what we DO need is another stout 3-4 DL while Odrick is out to help with the Vikings and jets running game.
