Vince Young won’t get the 2005 Heisman

With Reggie Bush giving up the 2005 Heisman Trophy nearly five years after winning it, the guy who finished No. 2 won’t be getting a large, heavy box in the mail any time soon.

William Dockery of the Heisman Trophy Trust announced on ESPN’s College Football Live that the award will be vacated for 2005.

Bush secured the award with 2,541 points. Vince Young, who recently said he’d take the trophy if it were given to him, finished second with 1,608. Next came Matt Leinart with 797, Brady Quinn with 191, and Michael Robinson with 49.

And so the Yahoo! Sports report from last week has come to fruition, with a twist. The Heisman Trophy Trust met on Tuesday, they apparently (though they predictably deny it) gave Bush a chance to take the high road, and then the Trust opted to leave the prize vacant.

The best news is that a re-vote never was considered. And we likely can thank Brian Cushing for that.
