With Revis limited, Jets go back to "school"

First things first: Darrelle Revis’ hamstring injury should not prevent him from suiting up Sunday.

“You
don’t want to hurt your team in any way. If the situation is that
severe, I’ll sit out,” Revis said.  “But it’s not. And I’ll be out there.”

Jets coach Rex Ryan admitted he was a little nervous about Revis, but not overly concerned.  He expects Revis to play, but said he’d adjust the gameplan if his cornerback isn’t 100%.

Ryan is also nervous about his team’s penchant for penalties in the season opener.  So he went old school this week in practice, according to the New York Daily News.  Any defensive penalty in practice means 10 pushups for the 10 men on the defense that didn’t commit the penalty.

“I know it’s an old high school trick, but sometimes those old high school tricks still work on this level,” Ryan said.

Like we mentioned yesterday, the trash talk has quieted down in New York.  The Jets are desperate to avoid a 0-2 hole to start the year.

“Is it a must-win where you absolutely have to have it?” Ryan asked.  “No,
but it kind of feels like it.”

That’s going to turn the rest of the defense against revis…dude holds all the time (he is just a lot smoother when he does it) He will get flagged much more this year now that his fame has exceeded his talent.

The trash talk has died down because this .500 team has been exposed.
Sanchez is NOT the next Joe Namath and instead will rank somewhere between Cade McNown and Trent Dilfer for his career.
Shon Greene is NOT a star in the making and is instead an average RB being overshadowed in terms of performance by an aging LT
    Brian Schottenheimer is NOT Marty
    Rex Ryan is NOT Buddy
And the Jets are NOT the Giants
Get used to it Jets fans, you are not even the best NFL team in your state and you do not even deserve your own stadium.

    Should be a good game.
This will show everyone if the Jets should even be considered a legitimate playoff team.
This game will show that Nacho Sanchez is really not an NFL starting QB and he is more like the other USC QB’s in the NFL. Good 2nd & 3rd string QB’s.
If the Jets lose this game, this team will be in full imlosion mode as the wheels on the bus look to be coming off.
Just another typical year from the Paper Champions who always do their talking in the media and not on the field like their fans.

  40. GB3Pack4 says: Sep 17, 2010 11:15 AM

Basing the number of penalties that will be committed in these practices on the number of penalties committed last week, all those pushups are likely to amount to a bigger total than the scores of all the Jets’ wins for the next ten years.
Those guys will likely be too tired to pick up the ball.

  41. rsxfan says: Sep 17, 2010 11:19 AM

I love the Jets fans I’ve been reading online talking about how they only lost by 1 point to a good team.
Well this is true, but you lost 10-9 not 28-27.
You better be hoping your defense starts putting up some points soon because it’s starting to look like the Jets offense will be struggling this season to breach 10 on their own.
Sure the Jets did a decent job stopping the Ravens offensive attack, but it’s not a top tier offense they stopped, so if I was a Jets fan I would be very worried.

  42. petro says: Sep 17, 2010 11:21 AM

Hahhaha, this team has all the ingredients for an implosion. The real issue for the Jets is that their offense stinks and their play calling was brutal on Monday. Sanchez is in over his head and Brian Schottenheimer is clueless and conservative like his old man. “Marty Ball” was pathetic.

Tom Brady, Moss, and Welker are over-rated. They have to travel a long distance this weekend to the most hostile stadium in the league.
How can they win when the Jets already feel themselves backed into a corner?
I just dont see the Patriots offense keeping up with the Jets. They will need to score around 28 points on the road with Welker being blanketed by Wilson or Cromartie.
The Patriots Defense is young and will have no answer for the greatest show on grass.

  45. HarrisonHits says: Sep 17, 2010 11:33 AM

As a Pats fan I’m not going to bury these guys yet. Its a divisional game and many teams level of play goes up and down from week to week. They are going to pull out all the stops like they did in their “Week 2 Super Bowl” last year. I think the Pats will probably win, but I don’t know if it will be the blowout I’d love to see.

Rex Ryan circumvented conventional efforts to lose weight by getting some band placed around his stomach and he’s still a big fatty. Exercising some self discipline is the only exercise the man gets and he doesn’t even do that…., so how can you expect this team to demonstrate any self control when their lead man is completely unable to do so himself?

pftfanboy, Foxboro to E. Rutherford is barely 200 miles. That might be one of the shortest distance any team is traveling for an away game this week.
As for Cromartie and Wilson blanketing receivers, they were frequently out of position and getting beat last week, despite the help of pouring rain making throwing and catching more difficult. Those penalties were not for mental mistakes — they had to commit them to keep from being burned.
Even if they take Moss and Welker out of the game, they do not have the personnel to adequately cover Gronkowski, Hernandez, Edelman, Tate, and Faulk.
Mixing in Pace and Jenkins being out of the game, the possibility that Revis — after missing all of training camp — possibly being limited by injury, and Ryan seemingly willing to run cover 0, the Jets just will probably end up getting torched by NE’s passing game.

Yeah, makes a lot of sense to call the Dolphins game a bye week, considering they beat the Jets twice last year. Might just want to hold off on some of that trash talk until your team gives you something positive to talk about. (That would have been good advice for Rex and his boys during the pre-season as well).
Face it, the Jets have put a huge target on their own backs. EVERY team that plays them is going to want to humiliate them.
