Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio oddly ended any chance for a quarterback controversy in Jacksonville by playing backup Luke McCown during Sunday’s loss to San Diego.
McCown was hurt during his brief appearance and will miss the rest of the season because of a torn ACL, Del Rio revealed on Monday.
There was some offseason talk that McCown could eventually provide an alternative to David Garrard, but the Jaguars starter seemed to quiet that talk with a strong opening week. Garrard’s three interception effort in Week Two got the natives restless again in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars have Brett Ratliff on the roster as the team’s No. 3 quarterback. G.M. Gene Smith is reportedly scouring available quarterbacks to bring in to replace McCown as a backup, according to Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union.

It wasn’t all bad news for the McCown clan. Josh threw for 3 TDS and 0 INTs to beat Daunte Culpepper’s team in the UFL.

Jason Campbell might be available.
Jags are at the mercy of the sucker garbage garrard.
Oh god please save the team from imploding.
Time to bring up Ratliff!!
garrard threw 4 picks actually.
Jags haven’t brought in a QB to challenge Garrard since… well since Del Rio hitched his job to Garrard prior to the 2007 season.
They haven’t found any QB worth drafting in any round since 2003.
Maybe Cleo Lemon will take another $2.5M for 1 more season.
Gregg, dont sell Garrard short… It was a “4″ INT game in week 2…
“Coach Del Rio? Jeff George is holding on line two.”
