Braylon Edwards gets busted

Just as we were preparing to begin hurling superlatives at a self-described Super Bowl contender that began to start looking like one once they stopped talking about being one, receiver Braylon Edwards has provided an unwanted distraction with a DUI arrest.

According to Larry Celona of the New York Post, Edwards was arrested at 5:15 a.m. ET, and he blew a 0.16 percent blood alcohol concentration.  That’s twice the legal limit of 0.08.  (We got the head’s up from one of our friends at NBC, who heard the news while listening to Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on WFAN.)

Edwards remains in police custody.

The move comes less than a year after Edwards was arrested in Cleveland for assault.  He later pleaded no contest to the charges, and he was not suspended by the NFL.

With Edwards and Santonio Holmes both in their contract years and with the Jets likely to keep one and not the other over the long term, Edwards just made it a little harder for him to be the guy who sticks around.

  1. As a Jets fan, this hurts. This is also completely alarming given the fact that he was boozing w/ Stallworth the night when he killed a guy while he was drinking and driving. You make millions of dollars a year. HIRE A DRIVER!!!

  2. 4 game suspension for repeat offense, so sad, just as the jets O was starting to look decent. Bet they can’t wait for Holmes to get back

  3. Based on your article about V-Jax from February 23rd of this year, it seems doubtful he’ll be suspended for a first time DUI offense. I suppose Goodell could make something up though, using the night club incident in Cleveland.

  4. He was probably just hungry and going to get a goddamn snack!!!!!
    HAHAHAHAHA.
Marshall is getting ready to eat some Cro’ on Sunday night.

  5. If he couldn’t behave in Cleveland did you really think this punk could control himself in the Big Apple?

  6. Maybe he just was following Santonio Holme’s twitter advice to a fan by “drinking the worst thing he could find.”

  7. I would ask why is he so stupid that he can’t hire a driver or call a cab, but then after seeing quotes from his parents over the last year, my question was answered.
It couldn’t happen to a better guy.

  8. What a surprise. This guy has always been an underachiever on the field but an overachiever in off the field problems…..

  9. Doesn’t matter which one they keep they’re both idiots off the field Braylon however is an idiot on and off the field

  10. Santonio couldn’t write himself a better ego-driven script – ride in on his white horse after 4 weeks to save the entire city of New York, LOL
What a perfect landing spot for the ultimate “look-at-me” player. Good luck Jets, you and Santonio and Braylon deserve each other

  11. Idiotic Edwards. Santonio is clearly the superior talent, he just needs to stay off the weed.

  12. It was actually his second breathalyzer he failed; the officer made the mistake of letting Edwards hold it the first time; he fumbled it and it broke.

  13. “Bring him on,” Rodgers said, via Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “He’s a great player.”
And by player, he means “drinking buddy”. The two of them can drive drunk down that street they renamed Aaron Rodgers St for a day last year. I mean, what else is there to do in Green Bay anyways? Braylon is a perfect match for that club and its fans. Please please “bring him on”.

  14. I just don’t understand how guys with so much talent can be so dumb? Doesn’t he have enough money to use a car service?
C’mon Braylon! We’re trying to do something pretty special this year! Get on board!

  15. BrownsBacker1982 — Fifteen-yard penalty for “Taunting”.
Gonna have to assess it on the kick-off!
    The arrest stands!
    I love it.

  16. I doubt he gets suspended any time soon. First DUIs usually don’t but he was arrested before so he may get 1-2 games…just probably not for the next couple weeks.

  17. Sorry Ice22 but the Jests will not be doing anything special this year or anytime in the Rex Ryan area, you New York fans need to realize this.

  18. My father will be trying to sign him in the next few days. I know Bengal nation is smiling, because that should be 2 wr’s suspened in the same year. Couldnt happen to a better group of guys.

  19. Long time Jets fan……just don’t like this guy…period
selfish and low class….hard knocks showed me two things…santonio is a leader and very likable….Braylon is a selfish jerk

  20. And the wheels bring to fall off week 3…
The circus in NY is great hahah
The next headline “Rex Ryan arrested for breaking into a candy store at 5:15am”

  21. These J*E*T*S are certainly 24/7 entertainers! You ALL live up to our
expectations… in other words, we don’t have any! Stay CLASSY J*E*T*S!!!!!

  22. Wow, you think he would have learned after his buddy Stallworth’s accident. What a moron.
That must be that New York essence he keeps talking about!

That was my thought exactly. (the driver part, not the jet fan part) I don’t make anywhere near what most of these guys are making, yet if I’m going out drinking, I always make sure my transportation home is taken care of. I don’t understand why in the hell these guys insist on driving themselves home.
Christ, even if you’re not planning on getting drunk, isn’t it more fun to go out in a limo?

Maybe he’s not used to living in a city that keeps sports in perspective. He probably expected it to be like Cleveland, where if he got pulled over for DUI, he would just take a picture with the cop and then the cop would drive him home.

  24. cusoman, what are you smoking? the rodgers quote was about marshawn lynch, not braylon edwards. i’m pretty sure the packers are all set at WR with 5 guys who would be in the top 3 on almost any team in the league, not to mention a dynamic TE as well.

  25. If you’re a multimillionaire why are you driving at 5:30 AM.. what a waste of life this guy is..
Who enjoys the risk of driving bombed ….when he could just get a limo/cabride/helicopter taxi..
Some of this guys are just preternaturally stupid and are bad people that will eventually fail in life and/or be bankrupt..
    Grow up.

  26. The worst thing is that he was drinking with Donte Stallworth the night that Donte struck and killed Mario Reyes with his vehicle. Come on Braylon, put down the booze.

  27. “Still in police custody.”
I got news for ya….if he blew a .16 at 5:15 AM, he’s still in custody because he’s still bombed!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a moron….Momma always said- the only things you’re doing when you’re out after midnight are the things you ain’t supposed to be doing!!!!!!!
If everyone went home by 12, you could lay off 2/3 of the cops in America. And people like Edwards would just perform and get rich and live happily ever after.

  28. still awake and driving at 5:15am leads me to believe he did some blow too. Just a hunch.
He can have Plaxicos cell at Rikers when he gets out.

  29. It isnt his fault. He’s innocent. This whole thing was the result of Ohio State fans who dont want him to succeed because he went to Michigan.

  30. He was tipsy of Sour Apple Pucker trying to get to Best Buy to buy a Justin Bieber cd. typical

Umm, that quote was in reference to Lynch coming from the Bills to the Pack after Grant went down with a season ending injury. Had nothing to do with Edwards. Just sayin….

  32. “he was not suspended by the NFL”
This statement better change real soon. If not, the owners and the NFLPA need to look long and hard at running GODdell out of office. His inconsistent punishments are that of a complete idiot.
And don’t worry, if Mr. Edwards gets suspended, Holmes will do something stupid also. They’ll be without either one by Halloween.

  33. Remember Ronnie Brown got a Dwi in the offseason and his ass is still playing ,doesn’t the league wait until his day in court before Goodell drops hammer,if this is the case he wont see a courtroom until next March ,so I dont think this will effect his playing this season ,but with it being a contract year for him and likely he was in a competition with Holmes for that contract ,if he’s sitting on a suspension beginning next season ,he’s already lost that competition…to bad he was starting to look like the guy in 07 who had 16 Td’s

    __________
    Definitely. Gorilla Fingers were out.

  36. Another prima donna bites the dust….you can take the douche bag out of Michigan, but he’s still a Michigan douche bag.

  37. 5am?? Man nothing good happens at that time of night. Even if you’re getting buns that’s usually gonna happen by 4am or you just tap it in the morning.

  38. even if he didn’t get pulled over, what kind of disrespectful pos is that drunk just a few hours before he has to show up to his place of work?

  39. At 5:15 monday morning, the Dolphins receivers were just getting to the gym for a good workout before film session and practice. I’m just sayin’.

  40. He was pulled over, because his car’s windows were *too* tinted. He’s a talented player, but he’s just a bonehead. To me, as a Jets fan, forget the suspension… just release him. Selfish players, like Braylon & Revis, no matter how talented they are, just kill teams.

  41. Florio, Kenny McKinley of the Broncos died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was just 23 years old, and well-liked by his teammates.
    RIP, Kenny.

NYJets31: really? When was Big Ben’s day in court?
    ………………………………………………………………………………..
The rule is set for that off substance abuse arrest ,Ben didnt fall into that catergory…

  43. If he got his degree from Michigan they should ask for it back. Apparently, he cannot even comprehend the whole drinking and driving concept. Something that even my 9 year old easily understands. The worst part of it is that he was pulled over in Manhattan for crying-out-loud. You cant swing a dead cat in Manhattan without hitting a private car or a cab.

  44. I know i’m late to comment, but I hope Cleveland takes action and doesn’t pull a Gerald Poindexter on this case.
God forbid something like Mario Reyes happened b/c he was too arrogant to obey the law.

  45. Chiefs2010 says it best:
“If you’re a multimillionaire why are you driving at 5:30 AM.. what a waste of life this guy is..
Who enjoys the risk of driving bombed ….when he could just get a limo/cabride/helicop ter taxi..”
I cannot understand why a guy who has a $40 million contract does not hire a driver when he goes out drinking.
Seriously, Braylon. You can afford a driver. A taxi. A limo. A guy with a rickshaw.
    Stupid.

  46. @ Inter-Sanch-ion, revolution,
the jets will own the dolphins sunday night, cromartie is gonna eat marshall alive (cromartie covered moss very well on sunday, if you guys didn’t happen to see) and tom brady was forced into two INTs and a sack/fumble, all on the way to losing the game. I was there, sitting 17 rows up from the field… I know all about it. henne and marshall are no brady and moss, I’m not sweating this.
