Two teammates were in vehicle with Braylon Edwards

It was reported earlier today that Jets receiver Braylon Edwards had a passenger in his car when arrested early this morning for DUI.  As it turns out, he had two.  As it also turns out, they play for the Jets.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson and defensive end Vernon Gholston were in the vehicle with Edwards.

It’s unknown whether and to what extent they were intoxicated.  In many cases, when the driver of a car is at 0.16 percent blood alcohol concentration, the other folks in the car who aren’t driving are even more messed up.

    And now, we all discover why D’Brick has been inconsistent, and Gholston has always been crap… real athletes cannot be booze hounds.

    There’s a pattern developing here. Call him a prude if you want, but when Tony Dungy called out Rex Ryan for his foul language, he was pointing to the lack of class being projected by a leader in the Jets organization. And now, that lack of class is showing itself amongst the players. The ugly Revis holdout and all the rumors. The incident with the reporter. And now, Braylon Edwards. Reminds me too much of the Mike Tice years in Minnesota — lots of talented players, and a coach considered a rising star in the game planning department, but whose team fell apart at the seams because of stupid off the field controversies that never should have happened. It’s apparent too many of those players don’t place the image and well being of the team over themselves, and the results are showing.

    ====================
    And in many cases they’re not.Either way, you have absolutely no evidence that they were or weren’t. And frankly, it’s not relevant
    They’re both of legal age, right? Tuesday is an off day for NFL players, right? So what, exactly, would they be doing wrong if they were drunk?

    What a bunch of idiots. The Jets have spent what, $100,000,000.00 or so on payroll this year? Forget for a moment that he could have killed an innocent person or two (or more). What if they wrecked and took out all three for the year? Sheesh. Personally, I’ve been in a bar maybe ten times in the last five years, each time to go in and drag out a drunken friend and drive them home. That’s where I do my drinking, HOME. Don’t these clowns make enough to feed their families And call a cab?

  15. andyprough says: Sep 21, 2010 4:46 PM

  16. FinFan68 says: Sep 21, 2010 4:47 PM

    wow…this is what you get when discipline is not even a remote priority on a team. If I were Ryan, I would bench all three for part of the game. There are a lot of “me, not team” guys on the Jets. 3 guys out at 5:00A.M. and their collective IQs were not capable of figuring out they needed a different way home. Were the Jets off today, or were these three dirtbags planning on showing up for work smashed? ZERO DISCIPLINE, ZERO TEAMWORK. Rex needs to fix this team or it will get worse as the season moves along

  21. sand0 says: Sep 21, 2010 4:52 PM

    Those two players won’t get any legal action but in many ways they are just as much to blame from the team standpoint.
    I make like 70k a year and call a cab when I’m drunk downtown. If I was a millionaire I’d have a chauffer that I paid to drive an awesome car in really awesome ways while I sit shotty drinking expensive booze that I just throw into some ridiculously elaborate trap door if we get pulled over.
    Seriously. If any of these players wants to hire me to teach them how to not be stupid they can have me for 80k a year.

  22. steelkiller says: Sep 21, 2010 4:53 PM
