Vick found out about the move within the past hour

We all found out within the past half hour that Mike Vick is the new starting quarterback in Philly.

A league source tells us that Vick himself found out about the decision within the past hour.

All indications continue to point to Vick being the full-time starter.  Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Vick is “the permanent starter, until further notice.”

Mort points to Vick’s performance and the status of the offensive line, which currently has a smattering of injuries.

Vick will debut in Week Three against the Jaguars.  The following week, he’ll welcome Donovan McNabb back to Philly.

Love it. I have Vick as my developmental player in our 12 team dynasty league and now I can activate him.
Schaub’s my guy but Vick’s a solid #2 and Kolb becomes my insurance #3. About what I expected….
Hasselbeck gets waived, despite a solid couple of games. Kolb’s youth and upside win out.

Shame. It’s impossible to win a super bowl with a run first QB, and a 30-year-old run first QB is nearing the end of his career.
Terrible decision for both the present and the future.

As if we needed more proof…Andy Reid is a LIAR. It’s one thing to lie about his quarterbacks to the media (“Donovan McNabb is our QB”), and another thing entirely if he’s parroting these same lies to his players. How long before the Eagles players lose faith in their organization and head coach? What’s the atmosphere in the locker room like when players can’t believe the words coming out of their coach’s mouth???

  24. Route36West says: Sep 21, 2010 6:43 PM

I think Vick deserves to be the starter and that the Eagles are Superbowl Contenders with him under center but I do see this being a problem in the future.
If they would have gave Kolb a couple of games to see what hes got they would have been able to find out if hes the answer for the future. If he turned out not to be the answer they could have signed Vick to a multi year contract. And if he did show he has it then they could have let Vick walk.
Now because Vick is the starter we wont be able to find out if Kolb is the answer until next year at the earliest. This can turn out to be a problem. What if Andy Reid decides to let Vick play out his contract and then allow Kolb to take over the reins as the starter next year and Kolb doesnt work out? The Eagles will be left with no one who can play the qb position. Also what if Vick signs a multi year deal with the Eagles and Kolb decides he wants a chance to start somewhere else? Vick could start to show his age while Kolb cashes in on all the potential the Eagles seen in him with another team.
Even though starting Kolb over Vick for the next few weeks might not have been the best thing for this team this year it certianly would have been the best thing for the future. We could have found out what Kolb had with Vick still under contract. That chance is likely gone now and what ever Andy Reid decides to do next year at qb is gonna be a huge risk no matter which way he decides to go.

A few words on Vick as a starter:
    Dog mutilator.
    Ran a gambling ring.
    Ran a drug ring.
    Infested with herpes.
Killed the same creatures that love us, serve us, bring us comfort, protect us, and sometimes save our lives. For many of us, they are like family members, best friends to our kids, etc.
Reminder: He mutilated, electrocuted, drowned, and crushed their poor little doggy skulls in with concrete blocks, then laughed about it.
And now we say to our kids:
“It’s okay, son–he will help the team WIN!! And sell JERSEYS! Look how fast he can run! We love you Mike Vick!”
What shameless, forgetful wh0res some of you people are (peegulls fans).
What kind of people root for Vick? Probably the same sort of ignorant, myopic sheep that gullibly voted for Owebama, yet can’t even tell you what branch of government he’ll be using to destroy our country with.
I can’t wait until this over-rated one-trick pony breaks your hearts and sends the Peegulls crashing down into the philthy gutter where they belong.

You got a taste of McNabb in a close game. The man CAN NOT win a close game. Any other ‘elite’ QB would have gotten the team into FG range at least once in the 4th quarter to put the team up, but McNabb feels pressure from the other team and simply can’t do it.

As an Eagles fan, I don’t even know what to say. I would have hoped that the decision to ditch McNabb in favor of Kolb was based on Kolb’s strong performance over a period of three years – in practices, exhibitions, and a few regular season appearances. To completely change their minds after one poor half of play implies that the Eagles management either have no clue how to evaluate talent, or that they have no faith in their own ability to evaluate talent, or both. Absolutely pathetic.

  38. delgriffth says: Sep 21, 2010 7:15 PM

this team, my team, is quickly becoming a fockin joke. they waste a 2nd round pick on a qb (kolb) when they had other needs. they turn down reportedly 1st or 2nd round pick for kolb this offseason. they trade away the franchise qb to a division rival. they promise the heir apparent is ready. they give the heir apparent less then a half of football to prove himself. now, they give the keys to the franchise to a scrapheap qb no one else in the league would touch. now theyre stuck with kolb and his $12 mil salary and even if vick works out, they only signed him through this year. WHAT A FOCKIN JOKE!!…..Go Phils!

  39. FinFan68 says: Sep 21, 2010 7:17 PM

I am not a fan of Vick but there was one thing Andy said in his press conference that should have the Eagles’ opponents a little worried. He said that he won’t stop him from running. He seems like he is going to take the cuffs off and allow him to play the game the best way he can. The Falcons tried to stop him from running and turn him into a pocket passer. Vick has matured somewhat and is playing smarter than he used too. He can throw from the pocket but is not as accurate as the premiere passers but there is no one better at gaining huge yards on broken plays or extended coverage scenarios. You can’t coach speed and the Eagles offense has a ton of it. They should be in the thick of things as long as he is healthy

Win games now. This is what this move means. Given the very much unsettled NFC in general – and NFC East in specific – this is a wise move by Reid.
Although I still believe that Kolb has a high upside, sometimes you just gotta do what wins you games now instead of setting yourself up for the future.
If Vick were to get hurt or go in the tank, then you’ll know exactly what you have (or don’t have) in both Vick and Kolb.

Unbiased Packer fan looking forward to this game more than Rodgers v. Captaoin Awesome. Rush Limbaugh is going to crap his pant when the highest rated game of the year is going to be McNabb v. Vick.
Vick might be dumb ass still to this day, but I wouldn’t put it past the guy to have 6 or 7 more solid year left in the tank in the NFL. The guy can throw and you can laugh at that but he throws the ball better then well over half of the starting QBs in the league right now). He’s not tall but is a physical beast, and saved at least two year of wear and tear, injuries on that freak of a body. He’s a competitor, I watched him live on Lambeau Field and just say eff you, come and stop me.

    Umm BleedGreen
Mcnabb got us in fieldgoal range once in the 4th and once in overtime. In the 4th we had a fieldgoal blocked that would have put us up two scores essentially ending the game and in overtime we kicked a 52 yardfield and it was good but the texans called a timeout nullifying the kick and then we proceeded to miss. Mcnabb had over 400 yards passing and two passes right near the one yard line where we ran it in with portis to try to get a spark going. Mcnabb could have easily finished with at least 3 touchdowns. Not to mention TWO long bombs that were on the fingertips of receivers that didnt get caught. The skins were up 27-10 and you are blaming mcnabb for the loss? You philly fans really dont know what youve got. I see philly fans defending vick because he beat the lions by 3 points saying its not his fault the lions put up 32 on his defense.. WELL DUH apply the same logic to our game you philly trash. It was a defensive collapse and of course the philly fans would fault mcnabb. Its always been mcnabbs fault, philly just loves blaming everyone but the root of the problem. Its fans like you that make me feel proud to have mcnabb and feel bad for him at the same time. You’ve been spoiled, I hope vick doesnt work out and neither does kolb so you can see that finding a QB of Mcnabbs caliber doesnt come very often. This is the best QB in my 25 years of life that the redskins have had and I am so proud and confident to have a QB capable of being called great. You philly fans, at least the ones who hate mcnabb are truly idiots. I hope it’s another 50 years before you ever come close to sniffing a championship.
