Why did Bills coach Chan Gailey switch from Trent Edwards to Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback?
What difference does it make?
Gailey says he has never seen a big difference between Edwards and Fitzpatrick (and for that matter Brian Brohm) and therefore doesn’t see it as a big deal to make a switch.
“Back when we started this whole quarterback thing, we had to have a pecking order going in to training camp,” Gailey said. “But the margin of difference between all of them was not that big and nobody did anything to change that margin in training camp. All of them did a pretty good job when they played. If it would have been a huge difference in the two, it might have made a difference, but in my mind and in our mind there wasn’t.”
You don’t often hear a coach express such a cavalier attitude toward his quarterbacks, but the truth is Gailey is probably right: The Bills are going to be a last-place team no matter which of their quarterbacks is under center.
Miss Cleo: I see Kevin Kolb being traded to Buffalo for draft picks or Beef Moe.

so why then chan, did you not get a qb in the offseason? You say how you can evaluate talent so good well that just proved you can’t.
PFT should refrain from posting anything else about the bills its to depressing
and yet they did nothing in the offseason, did not draft a QB. That is the bigger crime. The QB is one of the longest to devleop, the RB one of the shortest. So what did this rebuilding regime do? Skip the most important and longest developing piece.
What he is saying is that they are all back ups so what difference does it make which one starts?
Mediocrity on parade….
Translation: all three are garbage. We’ll take Ryan Mallett FTW, thanks.
translation: “none of them are any good”.
You totally missed the context. He isn’t saying, “Both guys suck, we suck, so what’s it matter who starts?” He is saying, “Both guys have similar physical tools, but there are some situations in the game that Fitz might have handled differently.” When is this site going to hire some decent writers?
They could always go and get Matt Lienart. He wants to start really bad.
Ryan Fitz this weekend: 14-24, 2 INTs, 2 TDs, 224 yards.
Don’t see a big difference? I’m a FAN and I can see a BIG difference. That comment alone makes me wonder WTF is going on at 1 Bills Drive. Trentative Checkwards is too scared to throw anything over 15 yards. Fitzy will throw bombs all day long, though his knock is he’s not too accurate. Though I do agree with the change they made. Fitzy gives us a better chance to at least compete in games. Edwards under center just means a blow out. Brohm is the enigma, wrapped in a mystery. I wouldn’t be suprised if we see him by the end of the season though.
What did we do here in western NY to piss off the football Gods like this??
Why couldn’t we have someone who actually cares about winning as an owner?
chan who????
what happened to this team???
what a disaster they’ve turned into, and as long as that 800 year old owner is involved, they’ll never be any good again.. by the way, great idea to draft a running back instead of a QB….
Maybe they should call Jim Kelly and ask him what to do?
The sad truth is that April’s draft didn’t have a QB past Bradford that warranted a #1 pick imo…though we’ll see Clausen try to prove me wrong starting this week.
Pickings on available QB’s was slim over the summer…you don’t have to look any further than Cleveland settling for Jake when they went shopping.
It’s a brutal state of affairs…but it’s not like Chan and Buddy had a lot of options. After watching this team suck for so long, Bills fans will clamor for any change, even if it’s desperate wishful thinking.
Chan and Buddy have some honeymoon time…I hope they use it wisely. Play young guys…find out if Brohm can play. Take your lumps. It’s not like we ever had any hope of making the playoffs from the start.

The big reason for no QB interest was the fact that after Bradford and Tebow, there wasn’t a future starting QB in sight… Not even in the pool of free agents or any of the QB’s that were being flaunted for possible trade. So besides Bradford, Tebow and McNabb(which the Bills did try to make a move on) every other QB has either been benched or looks terrible. I would have stuck with the three that were already contracted before paying more money for the same issue. I think that maybe Gailey didn’t see much of a difference in the three so went in pecking order of how they rated. Now he is on Fitzpatrick, who will give the team a lot more in the taking chances department. Which might bring out the strengths of our weapons- Evans, Parrish, Jackson and Spiller. Might take a few games to get up to speed but I Bill-ieve in Fitz. I want him to throw that football down the throats of all that branded him a second rate QB.
Gailey: “Yeah, they both suck. I’m trying to trade for Derek Anderson, Matt Moore, Matt Leinart, John Beck and Brady Quinn. That way I can have an eternal parade of suckitude at the most important position on the field. Did I mention I suck too? Well, not suck so much as I am retarded. Which makes me suck.”
What a friggin’ moron. It’s like he thinks he is choosing between Brady and Manning (Peyton, not his sister Eli), as in “there’s not much difference, they are both future Hall of Famers”.
