McNabb chimes in on Philly's quarterback carousel

Former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb now plays for the Redskins.  In 10 days, he’ll return to Philly for his first game as a member of a new team.

And so McNabb has added his two cents to the situation that has unfolded in Philly this week, with Kevin Kolb losing in less than a half the job McNabb held for 11 years.

“Really,
everything that’s going on over there is none of my concern,” McNabb said initially during a weekly media availability, per the Philadelphia Daily News.  “Anything I may say at this point really doesn’t matter.”

But then he decided to say something.

“That’s
Philadelphia,” McNabb said Thursday.  “Things like that happen.  I’ve been a part of that for 11
years and, obviously, as you see, it just doesn’t stop.”

Yes, it doesn’t stop.  And we sorta like it that way.

It’s gotta be a little sweet for #5 at this point. Hopefully #7 doesn’t spoil McNabb’s Chunky Soup in week 4…
    HAIL!

I can’t believe that Vick is once again a starter in the NFL…definite upgrade from Kolb though

  3. phildo says: Sep 23, 2010 8:40 AM

Did he chime in on not playing a full season in the past 4 years?

A guy who was the starting QB for damn near his entire career in Philadelphia chimes in on a QB carousel?

Hopefully the “almost being the best team every year” stops though…

What a bunch of idiots in Philly – Vick was unremarkable last season and this preseason, has a good game an a half against Detroit and Green Bay and now they are willing to bank their future on this scumbag. Reid turned a gimmick into a hero. I can name a dozen qbs that could be “one of the hottest quarterbacks in the league” when playing Detroit. The guy still can’t throw a pass in a big situation (unless they taught him how in a prison class). Just doesn’t make any sense.
Actually, now that I think about it… It’s Philly, so it makes perfect sense. Hoping for epic failure on this tool and his tool coach. He will always be to me, first and foremost, a dog killer. Hate the Jags, but I’m cheering for them this weekend…

Hey Don, I was a big fan of yours and you were a very good player here for many years. Thanks for that.

McNabb continues to be the passive aggressive hypersensitive child he was while in Philadelphia. Donnie, let it go! You have a new start. Strum that air guitar with gusto. Laugh as you kill those worms with your bounce passes. Run your 5-minute 2-minute drill. Throw the rookies under the bus to cover your butt. You were benched for half a game in against Baltimore because your play was so pathetic that day you looked like the worst QB in the team’s history instead of the best. Donnie, where’s momma when you need her?

    The business of football?
Coaches going with a winner to..you know.. win games?
Have fun with this losing headcase Washington.

  18. Chapnasty. says: Sep 23, 2010 9:11 AM

  21. crubenst says: Sep 23, 2010 9:31 AM

“It just doesn’t stop.” Yes McNabb, in philly, you are always expected to perform and you will always be replaced by a player who gives the team a better chance to win. I have a feeling in Washington they won’t keep you as the starting qb based on your past accomplishments either.

  24. cbrianwatkins says: Sep 23, 2010 9:41 AM

what cracks me up is the philly fans commenting here, telling McNabb to STFU and so forth
the guy took the high road, he couldve ripped Andy and the organization for this debacle they are in, but he didnt
the guy brings the team to the playoffs close to every year, acts like a gentlemen by not really commenting on the matter and he still gets ripped
considering how many SB’s Peyton has won in Indy, and considering he’s arguably the best QB to ever play the game, you’d think he’d have more titles under his belt, but yet i have never heard a Colts fan trying to run him out of town
philly is a joke, and so are their fans
and this title is very misleading

  25. songbre says: Sep 23, 2010 9:42 AM

Really??? Who cares what he says ??? I don’t … I loved him as our QB when he was here DESPITE his flaws (one of them being the ability to put his foot in his mouth via the media) or rather having him mother speaking for him … via the media. But this goes on EVERYWHERE not just here in Philly !!! Come on, the ONLY reason it’s being broadcasted as front page news is because of the name Michale Vick … McNabb was the last headliner because of his long stretching tenure with the Eagles … If the names were any different, you would turn to the back page and go about your business !!! It kills me how McNabb feels so enlightened by being out of Philly. Trust me, he had his F*** UP’s when dealing with situations just as much as the organization did !!!

  26. red4skins says: Sep 23, 2010 9:42 AM

What exactly did McNabb do wrong here? How is he a whiny bitch? Sounds like the whining is coming from the Philly fans in the comments section.
Love the end of this post Florio… keep egging on those bastards up north. HAHA

  27. Philly Cheese says: Sep 23, 2010 9:43 AM

McNabbs biggest problem has always been his sense of entitlement. Roy Halladay gets pulled from a game when he doesn’t have it that night, VY got yanked when he was ineffective, it’s just a case of managers doing their job to give the team – the whole team and their loyal fan base – the best chance of winning at that time. Guys like McNabb need to check their ego’s and remember that they are part of a team and realize that they aren’t going to be the hero every time.

  28. CHIEF ZEE says: Sep 23, 2010 9:46 AM

  29. daddy_lover says: Sep 23, 2010 9:46 AM

I can’t wait to watch McNabb padd his stats and choke the season away when the pressure is on. The best part is afterwards when he tells everyone how successful the season has been even when you didn’t get anywhere.

  30. clintcooper says: Sep 23, 2010 9:48 AM

  31. themage78 says: Sep 23, 2010 9:51 AM

Don’t worry about your offense Eagles fans, worry about your defense. It has looked pitiful ever since Mcdermott took over for Jim Johnson.
Letting the Lions score 32 with a backup QB? Pitiful.
Also doesn’t help Reid doesn’t run the ball enough.

  32. JimmySmith says: Sep 23, 2010 9:54 AM

Reading between the lines, what I think McNabb really meant to say was, “Good luck with the Felon Dog Killa as your franchise QB. He beat the Lions, something that has happened 34 out of the last 36 games the Lions played in. He can run but so can most linebackers and NFL defensive players and game planning Vick has proven successful in the past. Lastly, the Eagle fans complain like every other NFL fan, they just do it in a very loud and obnoxious manner. So to make your coaching decision based on those nitwits is akin to turning over the entire US government to a community organizer…. Oh, wait, bad example

  33. CremeBrunell says: Sep 23, 2010 9:55 AM

  34. Richm2257 says: Sep 23, 2010 9:57 AM

Now that he’s a skin, you do like a 360 and he is now the “Best thing since sliced bread” … I have several first hand dealings with some of the “Hypocritical” skins fans. Some of you are funny !!! And PLEASE don’t give me the “well he’s in DC now, so he’ll win it all !!!” … yea, keep tellin’ yourself that … Haha

(“is he referring to the Jeff Garcia days?”)
    nope.
(“I’m sure by “it doesn’t stop” McNabb means the constant QB controversy that went on in Philly. Ok, so he was benched once in 11 yrs, but how many times did EVERYONE hear about Philly fans and the media calling for him to be benched?”)
Sixburgh, you are correct, THAT is what he means, the CONSTANT QB controversy is what he’s meaning. Think about it, fans wanted McNabb to lose his job to Garcia, AJ Feeley, Kevin Kolb and some fans wanted Vick over McNabb. That’s what he’s talking about, the consistant media wondering if McNabb should lose his job to someone else.
(“I’m glad McNabb is in DC. I always thought he wasn’t appreciated enough in Philly”)
McNabb had SOME fans appreciate him and some fans call for his head, BUT the Eagles have been gifted for years. Eagles fans SHOULD cheer him when they hear his name in the Eagles’ stadium. He wanted to remain and Eagle, it didnt happen. He helped lead this team to a Super Bowl game, did he win it, no, but he took them there, he’s been to the playoffs many times, that’s something many teams cant say they did.

  50. rarson says: Sep 23, 2010 11:34 AM

    to songbre:
your argument loses all credibility when you say things like “probably talking Sh#t about him” I can honestly say as a life long Skins fan I have always liked McNabb as a players and hated playing him because I knew that the only reason the Eagles were half way decent was because of him and Westbrook. I always knew that your team was suspect on defense and sure enough the first year those two are gone you lose to GB and barely squeak out a win against the Lions who put up 32 on you with a back up QB. But go ahead Eagles fans and continue to be the most classless fans in the NFL. Your fan base is a joke and you would have never even sniffed a championship before McNabb. Have fun with your 0 championships.

  57. songbre says: Sep 23, 2010 1:54 PM

nah, I don’t lose ANY credibility … because if you read what i WROTE and not what you wanted to see. You would see that I said “Some” … NOW, if you’re part of that “some” then yea, I meant you. If your not, then what the hell are you commenting for ???
Classless ??? Funny how when they mention passionate fans, they love us and hate us but we’re always rollin’ off the tounge somehow. The only thing they talk about with DC are the glory days but more so about the sorry behind owner who spends millions on “busted” superstars and believes a new stadium every 5 years will help lift the jinx his team is in. Please don’t place yourself in the “almighty fan” category …

  58. Hail2theskinz47 says: Sep 23, 2010 2:59 PM

    Classless? yes,
Classless = jail in staduim, pouring beer and spit on Clinton Portis’ mom, etc..
Funny when I look up passionate in the dictionary it doesn’t say anything about class. I’m pretty sure terrorists are passionate about their cause. the difference is how that passion is displayed. And at least we have glory days to speak of, what are yours……?
And come on your just just proving my point, Dan Snyder, a new stadium every 5 years. What the hell are you talking about? RFK stadium 1961 to 1996 and FedEx Field 1997 to present. Im pretty sure thats 2 stadiums every 41 years so again I question your credibility…..

  59. geo1113 says: Sep 23, 2010 3:39 PM

    @Hail2theskinz47
“I always knew that your team was suspect on defense”
“I knew that the only reason the Eagles were half way decent was because of him and Westbrook”
That’s pretty idiotic. Let me give you some names – David Akers, Brian Dawkins, Jon Runyan, Tra Thomas, Hugh Douglas, Shawn Andrews, Lito Sheppard, Chad Lewis, Troy Vincent, Trent Cole, Quinten Mikell. Jeremiah Trotter, Hugh Douglas. Not a complete list of probowlers but just off the top of my head.
Defense – did you ever hear of Jim Johnson? McNabb had his defense for 9 of the 11 years. Guess what. More often than not, they were a top 5 defense.
Halfway decent How many teams had a better record from 2000-2009.
Championship – yep, been a long road since 1960 (when I was on the planet and you were not.)

  60. rickvaldez says: Sep 23, 2010 4:26 PM

  61. Hail2theskinz47 says: Sep 23, 2010 5:37 PM

    @geo1113
I don’t really care when you were alive but at least us skins fans don’t make idiotic comments and expect not be checked. So lets review shall we. You said and I quote “McNabb had his defense for 9 of the 11 years. Guess what. More often than not, they were a top 5 defense.” Well I did a little research and over the last 10 years to look at the Eagles overall defensive rank and this is what I found:
    99′ – 24th
    00′ – 10th
    01′ – 7th
    02′ – 4th
    03′ – 20th
    04′ – 10th
    05′ – 23th
    06′ – 15th
    07′ – 10th
    08′ – 3rd
    09′ – 12
So lets review, you said more often then not your defense was top 5. Well I’m not math whiz but my numbers tell me you were Top 5 only twice which is hardly “more often than not”. So really who is it that is making the “idiotic comments”. I wait to hear from you old timer…..
Also try doing a little research before making outrageous claims. You might as well said you invented the question mark, it would hold about as much truth.

  62. Chapnasty. says: Sep 23, 2010 6:39 PM

Now you have a guy who was slamming dogs on pavement to their death as your QB.
(Do you think he kneeled down after every execution and said a prayer? OR did he laugh with his boys?)

MUCHMALIGNED, man you’re a typical internet shit talking punk. You talk real big for a man hiding behind your computer. Soooo, was I wrong about my assumption?? Im sure you already tried to check the stats. I know as of a year or two ago, McNabb only had a few comeback victories in about 10 years. And honestly, if you were to talk to me like that in person, I would crack you right on you’re F’n nose!!!! And McNabb was wrong because even with T.O.s performance Philly still lost the Super Bowl. McNabbs 3 INTs didnt help. I especially loved the way he threw a pick but it was called back because of defensive penalty and then he threw ANOTHER one on the very next play. Hopefully you’re a skins fan so you will find out exactly what I’m talking about. And Desean doesnt look like he’s wrong so far, because the Eagles and Vick have put up some pretty good offensive numbers. So I guess I was right both times. . . . . . . .DUMBASS!!!!!! LOL, do you see how stupid you sound?

  67. muchmaligned says: Sep 24, 2010 10:19 AM

Thanks for proving my point, dumbass. You are the absolute worst football fans ever. Everyone knows it. Some media types seem to thinks it’s cute to exploit your stupidity, but I think it’s pathetic. Admit the mistakes your franchise has made and move on with Kolb… errrr… Vick…. errr… Garcia? Bottomline: the Eagles traded their best player (for 10 years straight) to a division rival. You represent the largest collection of dumbasses in the country. Proud?
As for your threats, I am a Marine, which means even at the ripe old age of 42 I remain disciplined and I fear no human.

  68. geo1113 says: Sep 24, 2010 12:22 PM

    @Hail2theskinz47
You are using yards and as we all know football is all about points scored. Thus we have
    99′ – 22th
    00′ – 4th
    01′ – 2nd
    02′ – 2nd
    03′ – 7th
    04′ – 2nd
    05′ – 27th
    06′ – 15th
    07′ – 9th
    08′ – 4th
And I did not include ’09 since I was making the point about Jimmy Johnson’s defense (so my mistake to say 9 of 11 years, I should have said 9 of 10 years). Ergo more often than not McNabb had a top 5 defense. You see when an offensive player looks at what his defense does, his concern is not how many yards the team gave up, but rather how many points he has to score to give his team a chance to win. I am sure you saw this when you did your research. The least you could have done is acknowledge that you looked at it from yards and given me credit for using points.

@geo113, the numbers you post “refudiate” your point as thoroughly as Hail2theskinz47 did. Please don’t ever spawn.
    Pathetic.
You don’t have to be a Redskins fan to recognize the enduring idiocy of Eagles fans.
    Worst. Fans. Ever.

    @muchmaligned
Sorry. Let make it clearer. While Donovan McNabb was the QB, the Eagles defense under Jim Johnson and was a top 5 defense 50% of the time and a top 10 defense 70% of the time based on points allowed. And as we all know, points are the only thing that counts in the NFL. Can you refute that?
