Drew Brees is a man of the people

There’s a reason the shirts say Breesus.

In New Orleans, Saints quarterback Drew Brees is as close to a living deity as it gets.

Witness him walking among his freak-outed fans in the French Quarter, for a spot on CBS’ 60 Minutes.

  6. mgmac says: Sep 24, 2010 10:34 AM

let me preface this by statingI am not from New Orleans or from Louisiana. when Drew went to New Orleans as a free agent he fell in love with the town which had been devestated by katrina. Brees signed with the Saints and the rest is history. For anyone who doesn’t like Brees I ask you this; would you rather read something about this guy or somnething about the ny jets receiver that just blew the 0.16?
Brees is just a good guy.

Watching that, I got the odd feeling that Reggie Bush isn’t nearly as loved on the streets of New Orleans as Brees is.
I respect him much more for going to N.O after Katrina, seeing that he could be a bright spot in tumultuous times for a broken region. He’s a good quarterback, and a greater man.

  21. pvaz869 says: Sep 24, 2010 11:47 AM

Drew is a guy who made the most out of the chances that he was given. He deserves his time in the spot light. We weren’t even talking about him when he was a sideshow act on the SD QB carousel. Would’ve been a Chad Pennington when he hurt himself in that playoff game and got his walking papers not too long after that.
New Orleans should thank Miami for dragging their feet on Brees. He probably wouldn’t have won with the staff and personnel in Miami.. but we’ll never know that.
    Go Saints!

  37. Paul says: Sep 24, 2010 12:33 PM

As a Saints fan, I’d rather see Brees start paying more attention to his next opponent than walking the streets to feed his ego with 60 minutes and await the clamoring fans to worship at his feet. It’s not like he’s played all that great so far this season. Aside from the late pass to Colston on MNF to set up the winning FG, he’s misfired more than being on target this year. Granted, defenses are playing deeper and more zone coverages than last year, but the offense should still be moving better than it has so far, even if Bush is hurt. Even though they’re 2-0, they have A LOT of work to do before they can think about another SB run. It’s time to leave last season behind and focus on the tough road ahead.

Because Brees is fake. It’s all for show, because he has political aspirations. When he’s done playing football, he will run for mayor of New Orleans, and base his campaign off of his football career as the guy who “saved the city”. He will then go on to run for Governor of LA, then it’s off to the Oval Office… Never trust a Politician. He’s a worm, just like his mother.

If we judge him by his actions, then he’s a pretty great guy. I’d say just deciding that he’s fake or you think he has other motives is a lame reason to not like him. He’s done nothing to confirm that to any of you.
I imagine most people hating on him in here would 1) Love him if he was their team’s QB, but because he’s not have to find some reason to insult him or 2) Would find his actions perfectly acceptable if they were performed by Brett Favre, but because he has become more likable than Favre to the general population because of Favre’s retirement sagas, have to diss him. Neither. We get it, New Orleans went through a real bad time. I feel bad for the city, and it’s nice to see it building up again. But I’m kind of tired of the pity.
2006 – one year after it all went down = appropriate time.
2009 – four years = do we have to solemnly support the saints again because of the pity train, especially in light of their ’06 success?
if the aints make it to dallas in february, will we have to go through another wave of “new orleans is resurgent” stories?
Of course, maybe this is all just residual disgust from knowing people who don’t care about football but became die hard Saints fans for all of a month (2 weeks before SB and 2 after) just because Reggie Bush was dating Kim Kardashian.

This man is not fake, he is the real deal. For all the haters, and all of you who are “tired of Drew Brees” get a life. If a lot more NFL players had this guy’s persona the league wouldn’t have problems like Braylon, Plaxico, Vick, & Roethlisberger.
The way I know the man is not a fake is because he bases his whole life around his faith. Not like some televangelist who gets on tv asking for donations for prayers, he just realizes that he leads a blessed life and he is very lucky, therefore it is his duty to pay it forward to those less fortunate and to support the city that has believed in him since day one.
There will come a day when Brees won’t be what he once was and it will be his time to step down. I think that is still a few years away but for now, I can’t imagine a better individual for the city of New Orleans and a better role model for the NFL.

  76. Steve W. says: Sep 24, 2010 4:26 PM

Wow, watching that video taught me something surprising. In New Orleans, the black Jesus is white. Just kidding. Seriously though, everything that I’ve seen or heard about Brees all points to a great guy who has gone through some rather tough times himself. It’s not really all that surprising then that he was able to bond with a great city that’s faced some real disasters. When he was a free agent, everyone was so sure he was going to Miami, but the Dolphins treated him little better than a handyman with a questionable past looking for a job. They wanted him to jump through hoops for them and give him a contract that didn’t really bind the team to him. Payton immediately offered him the job and let him know that he’d be the future of the franchise. Big oopsie for Miami. Big plus for the New Orleans. I rooted for the Saints to win the SB. Now, if only so many Saints fans weren’t flocking to every sports site and insulting every other team in the league, I’d still be rooting for them.

I wonder if Brett Favre is able to walk the streets of Minneapolis? Probably not with that fu*ked up ankle huh?
I wonder if PurplePeopleBeaters has a life? Probably not with that fu*ked up ego.

    0-2*
*Soon to be 0-3 after Jahvid Best runs wild on that overrated defensive line.
Vikings will NEVER win a Super Bowl.

Yep, but at the end of the day I can leave this site and forget about you clowns and enjoy my family and friends. With the fervor that you comment on stories on here, especially Vikings ones (which, by the way, this isn’t), it’s pretty obvious you don’t have a whole lot going for you outside this place.
It’s really quite sad how you inject purple and gold into every black and gold story, even if no Vikes fans even prompt it. You have an obsession, kid.

Great video. Even Drew Brees knows you don’t walk down Canal St with your wallet in your back pocket.

Drew Brees was in Williamsburg this summer for a camp and my friend saw him in a little pub near William and Mary. He let all the people take pictures with him and signed everthing for hours. You just dont see that type of professional’s anymore. Although I’m tired of the “I’ve been a SAINTS fan forever, who dat people” I do like this guy. He’s a great qb, people that say he’s not just dont know football.

Are you retarded? Clearly Vikings fans started the negative comments on a SAINTS related article, as they always do.
Sure…you can move on, yet you comment. Hypocrite.
    P.S. Vikings suck.

DaveJ, on a serious note, we, the people of New Orleans, dislike these stories as much or more than the rest of you do. We have no control over what the national media does. Are there bandwagon Saints fans? Sure there are, just as there are for every team that wins. I have been a season ticket holder for 22 years. I listened to my first Saints game when I was 8 years old on a transistor radio, should tell you how old I am. I have never missed watching, attending, or listening to a Saints game since then.
You can piss on our parade all you want. Do you really believe Brees is disingenious? This guy is does all of what you see plus more. He is a class guy, not some prima dona like Favre. I have a friend who knows Favre personally and says he is a good guy but does have a need to have things center around him. This is the complete opposite of Brees.

It’s ironic. The better a QB is and the more he has accomplished they become victims of hate. Favre being number one, because he’s still playing. I used to hate the guy until I saw how much he loved the game and how much fun he brought to Minny. Peyton & Brady get lots of hate for their success.
But, it has already started for for Brees. Posts about how sick people are about him and the Saints. It doesn’t change the story. It’s a feel good story now though for most of us…

“No matter how hard you try to make it appear so, Brees is NOT Brett Favre.”
Saints fans are ecstatic that that statement is true.

being a vikings fan i shouldn’t have reason to like brees but i do. he is a genuinely good person and it shows.
back when i was in college-when brees was at purdue-some friends of mine discovered how to get these college athletes’ emails from school websites and they emailed a bunch of them.
brees was the only guy nice enough to respond back. he thanked my friend for his support and was gracious to someone he didn’t even know when he could have ignored the emails like everyone else did.
i consider myself a cynical guy but even i can see the good person that brees is.
something tells me that all the people knocking brees and saying he is fake are the same people that also express the most outrage when an athlete shows bad character. haters.

That’s not the case in this thread. Second post in this thread was a Favre-lover. It went from there.

On the commercial with all the custom Brees jerseys the funniest one is the Mrs. Brees one.

hahha now if Favre did this, I can only imagine how quick people would call him an attention whore and blah blah blah.
