Chad Clifton back in position to start at left tackle

Early in the week, we read about the possible end to the Chad Clifton era in Green Bay.

Following improved health in a few practices, it looks like the Packers mainstay at left tackle isn’t going anywhere yet.  The Packers listed Clifton as probable on the injury report after he practiced fully on Friday.  (He was limited Saturday.)

It looked like backup tackle and first-round pick Bryan Bulaga would make his first NFL start against Julius Peppers Monday night, but Packers coach Mike McCarthy says Clifton will start if he’s healthy.  The probable tag indicates he will be healthy enough.

Daryn Colledge is also set to start at guard despite getting hurt at practice on Thursday.

Linebacker Brad Jones (knee), defensive ends Mike Neal (side/rib) and Ryan Pickett (hamstring), and safety Charlie Peprah (quad) are all questionable.

Pickett should start, while Neal is almost certainly out.

The “Baluga” mite be a good player eventually but it’s rather obvious he isn’t ready yet if he can’t beat out an over the hill Clifton who plays on one leg……..do I smell bust?????

Ugh. With all the double and triple teams Neal faced in preseason, I am really eager to see what he can do in a regular game. Really hope this kid gets healthy soon.

so he makes his first start next week

Baluga played great with the opportunities he’s had.
Chad’s injury caused him to not play to his ability against Buffalo, which is why he was pulled.
So, no, Baluga did not beat out Clifton for the job because Chad was healthy for camp.
Chad Clifton is one of the best tackles in football.
To even consider Bryan a bust in week 3 of his firstt year is foolish to begin with, even moreso with the quality reps he’s played thusfar.

No, dumbass, you smell the dead cat under your bed. You don’t start a rookie, ANY rookie at left tackle against Julius Peppers at Soldier Field on Monday night protecting the franchise.

  6. TheBaySay says: Sep 25, 2010 4:32 PM

Bulaga will be playing plenty as the year goes along. No big surprise that McCarthy would want to start a vet on the road against Peppers. MrHumble, I doubt you’ve been close enough to smell bust. Oh wait – you meant the football kind? Anyway, the smell of troll is overpowering everything else, as usual.

  7. oxycode30 says: Sep 25, 2010 4:34 PM

Peppers will be teeing off on either guy so it really makes little practical difference. Looking for a nice home win for Da Bears!

  8. GB3Pack4 says: Sep 25, 2010 4:34 PM

I thought Mike Neal’s injury started out as mild, but it seems to have been hanging around for a long time.
Wish Bulaga could get on the field.

Yeah two weeks into the season we can all him a bust…..? Packers Mgmt does a good job of not rushing rookies into action.

Looks like the Packers have penciled this one in as a loss and hope to regroup later in the year.

Miss Humble the only bust you smell is the vikings 0-2 record.

    LMAO.
What you “smell” is a coaching staff which actually knows whats its doing.
To that point, I still think it’s crazy that this team is without Al Harris, Johnny Jolly, Al Bigby, Ryan Grant, and lost Kampman to FA… and is still a serious contender.
It’s insane when you think about it…
I mean, just one WR from MN is out for a few weeks and they fall to pieces.
Just, you know… for example. :)

Do your homework on Cliffy. He is a machine. Not even a piece of crap, blind-siding, thug like Sapp can keep him down for long.

    @Mr Humble
I don’t think you can really judge a player on one half of football. Besides its ok to have depth. Bulaga will be fine.

Are you on crack, the fact that he is pushing an All Pro left tackle and the team is trying to find ways to get him on the field should tell you something. You must also be psychic if you can call a draft pick a bust in side of 3 full games when he has played limited time.

Anybody who labels a guy a bust after being in the league less than six months is an idiot..
As far as over the hill goes. Clifton is better on one leg than your loser LT. You would give your left nut to have Clifton starting over McKinney.

I have been reading this guy’s chit for the past 6 months…..he claims not to be a Queens fan, but yet takes every attempt possible to bust the Pack… When confronted about who his team is, he will NEVER tell…..
Mrs. Humble is nothing but a troll and a joke…. I suggest everybody ignoring this fool until he comes clean about who HE roots for…..
There must be a reason why he won’t say…..

It doesnt matter if its over-the-hill Clifton, or the rookie, Peppers will be teeing off all night.
I laugh my ass off how the Packer rubes credit the front office and coaching staff and thin Clifton is “one of the best”.
    Ring, ring.

An important question is why the vikes passed on javid best and then took gerhardt. This was clearly an error

How is jared allen doing this season?

  29. arodgers12 says: Sep 26, 2010 1:47 AM

Never seen so many bad comments on one post. Better off with a a healthy Clifton than a rookie. Baluga and the word bust should not even be in the same sentence. Way to early. Not to mention he as played well. Pack should do plenty to help Clifton out by “chipping” Peppers. Game is gonna come down to which QB plays better. My money is on Rodgers….

  30. footballrulz says: Sep 26, 2010 10:11 AM

I somehow doubt Clifton makes it through this whole game. I hope I’m wrong. I am anxious to see what Baluga can do as well as Neal.
As far as Mr Humble goes — he’s a Vike fan that likes to rile Packer fans. He is also on these boards known as……………
