Patrick Crayton is not happy with San Diego's special teamers

When the Cowboys struggled over the last few years, wide receiver Patrick Crayton wasn’t afraid to point out exactly where they needed to improve.  Joining a new team in San Diego hasn’t changed his penchant for brutal honesty.

On Sunday, San Diego’s league-worst special teams took the brunt of Crayton’s criticism after Seattle upset the Chargers 27-20 on the strength of two Leon Washington kick return touchdowns.

“Right now, [special teams] coach [Steve] Crosby is [ticked] off. I don’t blame him. The
guys who are sitting in the meetings are not taking him seriously when he tells
you to do a certain thing on a kickoff,” a frustrated Crayton said. “He’s been
in this league I don’t know how many years. He’s been around a while for a
reason, obviously. You have to take this stuff seriously.”

Crosby is upset because he knows he’s on the hot seat.  The Chargers’ special teams also cost them a game in the season opener in Kansas City.

Without a dominant defense, the Chargers can’t afford to have the worst special teams group in the league. Through three weeks, that’s exactly what they have.

Florio, I usually never agree with your Chargers slant, but I do here.
Good on Crayton for calling them all out. He’s a great addition and had a solid game too.

Who wouldn’t be upset with them? This is a story?

I lived in Dallas and this clown (Crayton) ALWAYS had something to say when the microphone was in his face….as if he is somehow a star player whose voice should be heard. Hey Patrick, you just got there 2 weeks ago. Shut up and produce!

They looked VERY slow in our game and today’s as well, in my opinion. Is the window closing for a team getting old?

Bastards lost my 5team parlay for me. 5 teamersvare for fun, but still sucks losing one.
Raiders and Rams made it up on the late games though.

Chargers ST is a joke right now!! It’s embarrassing to watch. I’m sure Kassim Osgood is smiling though.

Actually, the Charger’s Defense has been solid. 4th in the league in yards per game, and averaging only 14.5 points a game despite a lot of turnovers putting them in bad situations.

He’s a DisCharger through and through. All talk, no action.

The Dolts and the Raiders have the same problem!

Hey Chargers fans, it’s ok, we always start slow. We will finish strong like always. We get Ryan Matthews and Marcus McNeill back soon. And I have a feeling that Norv Turner and Vincent Jackson will be carpooling to the unemployment office together soon enough.
We will lose in the playoffs again like we always do, but that will be a blessing in disguise when we hire Bill Cowher as our next HC.

    Covered the spread silly boy.
The 5 turnovers today or last week don’t help much either. Just poor discipline all around. Obviously a Notv Turner coached team.

That’s exactly right. Crayton talks way too much for a marginal player, a guy the Cowboys gave up for a ham sandwich. Even if what he says here has some merit, and it might, he’s not the person to deliver that message, and it does no good to deliver it through the media.

  17. Terrell Blowens says: Sep 27, 2010 12:19 AM

Crayton looks really tall and slim. I dunno it just looked different than when he was on the Cowboys. Or maybe I never noticed. Regardless, I gained respect for him after he wanted out of Dallas and I agree with what he’s saying

Nothing wrong with what Crayton said. No story.

What an idiot this guy is. Just like the rest of the Chargers players. Perfect fit.

AJ Smith isn’t going to want a guy like Cowher–he’ll want too much input into personnel decisions. Maybe you could get Marty’s son to go west.
    Maybe not.

Good for Crayton–He’ll also be dressing as 8th WR for the Cowboys ..

    @ Boltschick
Yeah I am sure Kassim is smiling on his 0-3 team that had 115 passing yards total this week…
If he had a little more patience, he might be catching a lot more passes from Rivers right now who is throwing for 400 yards almost every week.
Back to the Chargers Special Teams; horrid… fire his ass and start cutting people. There are hungry free agents out there who know coverage 101… like stay in your $%^&ing lanes!

  23. Jagerbolt says: Sep 27, 2010 1:57 PM

Glad he called them out, he’s right. The special teams were abysmal. I couldn’t believe it when they gave up another TD right after Rivers tied it. I’m hoping a player (Spillman) gets cut to send a message.
Beyond that, it still wasn’t perfect – our O fumbled the ball away twice in the red zone which is just unacceptable. Our D was able to stop Hasselback for the most part at least.

  24. Stuart Scotts left eye says: Sep 27, 2010 4:25 PM

typical Raider fans….Chargers talking about how they could improve the team and Raider fans think it’s a victory to beat the spread. Raider fans are laughable.
