Drew Brees practices with knee brace, won't be on injury report

Amid rumblings that Saints quarterback Drew Brees has an injured left knee, Brees showed up for practice on Wednesday wearing a brace on the joint.  But he fully participated in the first full practice session of the week.

“He’s sore but he was full in practice and did well,” coach Sean Payton said.  “He put a brace on there but he was able to go full.  He has some soreness but he was good.”

Asked what Brees’ situation is, Payton was a bit evasive.

“There’s no situation,” Payton said.  “His knee is sore from the game.  There’s no specific injury other than that he has soreness.  We didn’t put him on the report.  He took all the reps.  There’s not an injury to report.  I was pleased with how he functioned.  He functioned fine.  It’s something that as the week goes on, I think he’ll have no problem with and he did a real good job in all the team stuff today.”

It appeared late in Sunday’s loss to the Falcons that Brees was indeed injured.  But as long as he fully participated in practice and won’t be on the injury report, he’ll be playing against the Panthers on Sunday, regardless of whether he’s simply “sore” or whether there is a “situation.”

Saints need this guy if they are to repeat. But, I assume we all know that.

And let’s not forget he led the Saints on a game winning drive in O/T only to have a kicker miss a winning chipshot. He will be fine.

Have you cleared it with Mike to use the term “situation” in the above stated context?

He looked lost on sunday throwing two picks. It was a miracle the Saints were even in the game considering how badly they were outplayed.

Brees, being a fragile little fellow, is sure to be targeted now. You know, a little bit of the old Gregg Williams style….not being an Iron man like Brett Favre,I see Brees going out on a cart this season….which means the Saints will be a bottom feeder. You know, like a backer water bayou catfish…

  12. kravon says: Sep 29, 2010 4:21 PM

Ive seen each Panthers game this year. That team has no pass rush.
Honestly, they can beat Carolina with Bobby Herbert at QB.

Madden Curse indeed (even though Eddie George had his best statistical season the year he was on the cover).
This is the same knee Brees had hyper-extended late last season. How did that impact him in the Super Bowl?

Madden curse is a bunch of crap. Football games are decided by team effort on the field not a marketing scheme representing a video game.

Drew Brees with a knee brace is better than 99% of NFL QBs.

Pervy, Brett Favre is definitely the toughest 30th ranked qb ever. He’s right ahead of Jimmy Clausen and Matt Moore. One thing you “Madden Curse” people don’t realize, Drew is the first player every to be voted to the cover by the fans of America. Manning, Brady, Brees and then everybody else.

When all is said and done,Favre will be the historic legend(is right now) and Brees will just be another decent qb in NFL history…chew that Thibadeux

Hey MVP – “looking lost” doesn’t include completing 30 of 38 passes – picks or no picks.
Oh just fyi, that’s a 79% completion rate, his highest of the season so far.

  27. mikemcsaint says: Sep 29, 2010 6:39 PM

    Pervy,
If I were the “homer” I’d pull for Favre since he was raised 40 miles to the east, or Peyton or Eli, raised a few miles away. See people like you are blinded when he plays for your team. Favre is probably the 6th best qb ever and that’s a stretch. Manning will be knows as better, Montana, Elway, Marino, Brady, Young, Tarkenton, Unitas, are all better. Favre has been good but he’s won one SuperBowl in 20 years and has thrown more interceptions at crucial times than any non-rookie qb in league history. Don’t hate me because I’m telling the truth though. By the way, has Minnesota ever produced any pro quarterbacks… I didn’t think so.

The Saints won’t repeat, no freakin way, not even close. Wait until they play the Steelers in Week 8. If they think ATL beat them up, see what the Steelers do to them. I’m not a Steeler fan, but they have the best defense I’ve seen in some time. This year the Superbowl Winner will come from the AFC, and my pick is the Steelers if healthy. Sorry Jerry but no way in hell the Cowboys get one at home. The top 5 or 6 NFL teams are all AFC, but what do I know, I’m a Bucs Fan. Arghhhh!!!

I think that states like Minnesota shouldn’t be allowed to have a team. Their fan base doesn’t support the team, they contribute no players to the NFL because there are no great athletes in Minnesota, and the rest of the league is tired of the continuous crying that’s been going on for the last 50 years…. doucher

oh yah, you see,us edamacated people Up North here get jobs….of course you breed more athletes where it is play sports or turn to crime…

  36. mikemcsaint says: Sep 29, 2010 8:40 PM

Perv, perv, perv, you get jobs? Everybody knows that the welfare roles in Minnesota are greater than Louisiana. Are you that ignorant? Louisiana has the 29th highest rate per capita of welfare recipients, Minnesota is 18th. These are the facts. Arguing with an idiot like you makes us uneducated people seem smart. See we work harder and have better athletes. Minnesota is just a lilly-white state filled with whisky swilling eskimos and fat women.

I’ve been to Minneapolis several times and all I can tell you is that there is a word for a good looking woman in Minnesota, tourist.
And you might want to look up the derivation of the word “hillbilly”

I’ve been to Minnesota before. The women are disgusting. Honestly. Most are overweight. If not they have dental issues. The people are really bland with no personality. They have the east coast attitude without culture. I’m not being ugly just stating facts. Thoughout the years of travel nothing compares to southern women. They are the best looking with the best attitudes and most realistic outlook on life. BTW……. Saints win by 10…..

Is anyone else sick of seeing Drew Brees everywhere? I was happy for the city of New Orleans, but enough already!! Lay low for awhile Drew, or better yet hide out in the film room and rest your knee.
