Patriots bolster backfield depth

The Patriots don’t like to talk about their injuries. Occasionally, they speak louder with their actions.

New England signed running back Thomas Clayton off Cleveland’s practice squad on Thursday, bolstering their backfield depth at a time Fred Taylor is battling a toe injury. The move indicates that Taylor’s status for Monday night against Miami is highly in doubt. Clayton spent training camp with the Patriots.

To make room, the Patriots dumped offensive lineman Quinn Ojinnaka, who was acquired from Atlanta in a trade in the preseason. Compensation was never announced; it’s possible that releasing Ojinnaka will relieve the Patriots of giving up a conditional draft pick for him.
