Terrell Suggs: Trevor Pryce signed with Jets

A day after he was released by the Baltimore Ravens in a move that appeared to be only temporary, defensive lineman Trevor Pryce may have left for the New York Jets.

Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs wrote on Twitter that Pryce had signed with the Jets, and although there’s been no formal announcement, the Ravens seem to think it’s a done deal, as the team’s Twitter account re-tweeted Suggs’ tweet.

From the Jets’ perspective, the move makes sense: Pryce played for Jets coach Rex Ryan for three seasons while Ryan was the Ravens’ defensive coordinator. It won’t take Pryce long to get up to speed in the Jets’ defense.

Pryce can take his termination pay from the Ravens and still play and get paid for the rest of the season for the Jets.

UPDATE: Just after we clicked publish on this item, PFT was able to confirm that Pryce is, indeed, going to the Jets.

Pryce’s stat lines first three weeks: no sacks, no solo tackles. No loss.

Must be nice to get paid twice AND have no accountability.

To this day, I’m still angry the Denver Broncos let Trevor Pryce go to the Ravens. You don’t find pass rushers like that that easily.

  6. jamaltimore says: Sep 30, 2010 11:34 AM

Fine, He had one tackle this year and barely rushing the passer. He was a big body in there but after 14 years he lost his ability to finish the play from what I saw and was just holding a spot for kruger and/or cody. Who will BOTH play well this weekend in the Ravens win in Pburgh!

  7. RAVNATION says: Sep 30, 2010 11:36 AM

Dude was done. Was used on situational downs and no longer started but he will be missed from a leadership perspective.
Jets are always picking up Ravens leftovers. As they say, one man’s trash is another mans treasure. And when it comes to Jersey- the Armpits of America, everything is treasure!

Jets need DL BODIES pure and simple… Rex will find a role for him. He knows the system and will fit right in…
Not a huge splash but, injuries are piling up and he has to be as good as whoever the hell is on the waiver wire.
Probably better than Vernon Gholston :bag:

Well done Ravens. You just lost depth on your d-line, for… Ken Hamlin. A guy who you never put on the field anyway. Genuis roster-management.
And for the idiot who brought up Pryce’s “stats,” look at the entire Ravens defense. How many sacks are they getting? Not many. Pryce eats up blockers a LOT. But nobody else is making any plays.
It’s the SCHEME in Baltimore that is horrible, not the talent. And you can thank that to REX RYAN being gone. But I’m sure Pryce will prove that to you all with 3 sacks this weekend.

  23. Evan2442 says: Sep 30, 2010 12:07 PM

The Ravens asked Pryce to take a pay-cut during the offseason for a reason, he’s no longer the player he used to be and is a shell of his former self. Clearly, the Ravens coaching staff and front office have seen his effectiveness dwindle- he was no longer starting and moving down the depth charts and even fell behind Brandon McKinney. The Ravens want to get Cody and Kruger on the line, so depth certainly wasn’t an issue. I’m sure if the Jets hadn’t lost Pace and Jenkins, this wouldn’t have happened. This wasn’t a Hamlin for Pryce situation, it was a “we have depth at D-Line and not at safety”. Simple as that. Harbaugh even said that each week they have to start their best 45, and Pryce wasn’t one of them. He was great for the Ravens for a long time, but sometimes you’ve got to let it go. It’s just business.

  24. JetLove214 says: Sep 30, 2010 12:07 PM

Nice pick up, he eats blockers, stout in the run and although he is not going to be a double digit sacker he can create a pass rush. Great situational/rotation piece who can thrive in Rex’s system. When Pace and Revis comes back this defense should be lights out. I like the move

  25. MrMojoe says: Sep 30, 2010 12:10 PM

    @habibfromnewdehli
The Ravens have Paul Kruger and Terrence Cody who will replace Pryce this week at Pittsburgh. It’s really a non-story. He had a good career but was definitely slowing down and just didnt have the burst that he used to.
Congrats to the Jets for signing another Ravens cast-off

I love how all the Hater’s on here constantly say that every person the Jets bring in will be a non-factor, Really ,cause LTD hasjust been nonexistent like all of you said he’d be ..Right …Jason Taylor where’s he been 2 sacks FF nothing from him…Right ….B.pool a pick and tip that turned into a pick and a TD saving tackle ….who…Right …..Cracks me up….Pryce is brought in to add depth since we’ve lost Pitoulia and Jenkins already this season ,he knows the system already ,most importantly Rex seems to have a way of getting guys to play above there talent level ,so what ever Pryce has left he’ll get it out of him…

Yea, Ozzie Newsome is a real fool in these situations, look at all the talent he just gives away….. If he’s showing up on film do they really let him go the week they face the steelers and the ancient statue Charlie Batch? Yea he’s a beast!!!
Yup, The Ravens scheme is really horrible! No pass rush and the #1 rated pass defense without Ed Reed in there. Little down on the runstopping last week but I think Ray and company know how to fix that with out the fat blow hard. That same terrible scheme that made, shawn green wonder if he still wants to play in the NFL and made chico and the fatman look like the amateurs they are. Yup we really crying about losing Rex, NOT. Rex, Del Rio, Marvin Lewis, Mike smith, Mike Pettine, mike nolan and Singletary, should be sending 10% of their pay to RAY LEWIS and most could at least throw in 5% for Ed Reed!
Lastly, take a look at all those great ravens defenders who left for other teams? Exactly, scott runs his mouth like he matters but the rest? You’ll be saying the same about pryce while Mt. Cody and Paul Kruger become impact players with the ravens for the next 5 years.

Yes Jets fans, we all have heard about the Super Bowl Bound Jets every September for many years.
Enjoy the Paper Championship, its a long season and many unexpected things occur.
For those trashing the pickup of Pryce, I gather it is for depth. Tannenbaum doesn’t care how he spends Woody’s $$, all the chips have been pushed to the middle of the table.
Super Bowl or bust, the NFL awaits.
Could we be saying 42 ??

  35. testify517 says: Sep 30, 2010 12:50 PM

It’s no big loss for the Ravens, and if the Jets insist on taking our sloppy seconds, I say let them have him. He lost his starting roll here because his tank is on empty. He gave us 4 years of service and I appreciate that, but no one in Baltimore is mourning his departure. Word is that we took Hamlin back because the Patriots were looking at him because of their crappy secondary, and we’re playing them in a couple of weeks. I wouldn’t put it past Ozzie to outmaneuver Bellicheat.

  36. ccoolahan14 says: Sep 30, 2010 12:52 PM

Well he wouldn’t have helped the Ravens this week- all the Steelers do is hold him (typically with two guys- see Santonio Holmes’ TD* in week 3, 2008), which of course they never call (hey, it’s the most rigged game of the year, what do you expect?). RigFest 2010- only 3 days away!

  37. mikebyrne1502 says: Sep 30, 2010 12:52 PM

I don’t blame him the D isn’t that great anymore, not to many takeaways and they give up points, they’re not stopping people like they used to and they aren’t getting to the QB like they used too!!!!

Easy answer: because the majority, not all, fans of the Steelers have nothing else to cling to except their football team and their six pack of sh*tty Steel City beer. What a bunch of obnoxious d-holes.

First off, since when is it a crime to sign a FREE AGENT?? People are complaining that the Jets are evil picking up everyone’s scraps. We genuinely need DL help and if anyone has seen the first three games, the defense has been on the field 80% of the time. We need fresh legs and Pryce is a great addition to the D-Line. He knows the system and will give Pouha, DeVito, and Ellis a breather (so now we don’t have to fake injuries). Who cares if he is 35? It is not like we signed him for 5 years. He gets released at the end of the season. For now, he’s a body to throw out there to keep our starters fresh as we make our way to the playoffs.

  45. TheSleepness says: Sep 30, 2010 2:01 PM

great move for any team..it just so happens to be the annoying jets…for real are there any other GMs in this league?! Fins could have easily used his services!

  46. thejetsman says: Sep 30, 2010 2:05 PM

Yea real sloppy seconds, scott just sucks he doesn’t complete one of the best linebacker corps in the league, o and jim leonard who from the looks of your banged up secondary you would kill to have right now, and that’s about it. Now pryce who is gonna be a rotational backup its a non story. If you wanna see something real weird look at arizona and cleveland there esentially all the worst players from the 2008 and 2009 jets lol.

  47. StizziJETS says: Sep 30, 2010 2:28 PM

WOW! I can not believe the constant hate for the Jets! What is wrong with adding DL depth? Especially a guy who will know the scheme off the bat? All the Jets free agents signed thus far have produced at one point or another.
Any other team signs a FA and NOBODY says anything but when Rex and company do, its a joke.
It is a great pick up for depth reasons.

  48. Kappy says: Oct 1, 2010 5:15 AM

2-1 = On our way to Dallas in February!!! OMG!!! This is like so amazing. Give me a f’ing break. The season is 16 games; not 3, not 4. The Jets see the Pats & Fins again this year & the sledding will be a hell of a lot tougher the second time around. That’s not to mention the hell they face in their non-division schedule. I don’t trust Sanchez will keep up his play; he’s just not that good. He’s got 1 target, teams will adapt, will he? Also, this D is a shell of it’s 2009 form. With or without Revis, this secondary is getting beat up. The best team in the AFC is the Colts, followed closely by a Big Ben led Steelers, then the Ravens (who beat the Jets, at home). The Jets are in the following group that includes the Texans, the Pats, the Bengals & the Chiefs. They’re an above average group, but far from the best team in football. They’re an aging group as well. They’re already riddled with injuries & time will tell if players like Leonard, Taylor, & LT can stay healthy for a whole season. I doubt it. But hey, things could be worse; they could be the Giants.
