As of Wednesday night, the Rams needed to sell 6,000 non-premium tickets to Sunday’s game against the Seahawks in order to avoid a blackout of the telecast in the St. Louis area.
Though the Buccaneers considered an even smaller number to represent an insurmountable challenge a week ago against the Steelers, the Rams have sought a 24-hour extension, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Frankly, it will be difficult if not impossible to sell that many tickets in a day -- unless the Rams plan to involve the Neil Best rule and purchase all remaining tickets at 34 cents on the dollar.
Rams officials nevertheless say that they’re “cautiously optimistic” that the tickets will be sold.
The truth could be that they’re privately certain the tickets will be sold, if new owner Stan Kroenke is willing to write the check for the difference.
Of course, if that’s the case, there’s no reason to disclose it publicly. Otherwise, no one would feel compelled to buy any of the remaining tickets.
