Bills, Kawika Mitchell close to parting ways

Trent Edwards may not be the only veteran player leaving the Buffalo Bills this week.

Linebacker Kawika Mitchell, who played the last two years for the Bills but was placed on injured reserve before this season, could be on the way out as well.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Mitchell has asked the Bills to release him, and he could reach an injury settlement with the team today.

A settlement could make sense for both sides because it could, depending on the terms of the, get the Bills off the hook for Mitchell’s 2010 salary, and also make Mitchell eligible to sign with another team and play this season if his foot injury heals quickly enough.

When Edwards was waived on Monday, Mitchell took to Twitter to question the move, suggesting that he didn’t know what the Bills’ front office was thinking. Now Mitchell may not have to worry what the Bills’ front office is thinking any longer.
