Drew Brees and Larry David finally have one thing in common

Since we don’t currently have a podcast, we’re left to periodically pimp the podcasts produced by others.

And since I may actually be appearing as a guest at some point on the Rich Eisen Podcast at NFL.com, we’ll give it another mention here today.

In his most recent outing, Eisen talks with Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and with Larry David of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Regarding Brees’ knee injury or “situation” or whatever coach Sean Payton thinks it should be called, Brees said the knee is “banged up a little bit,” but that he’ll “be just fine.”

Later, Larry David offered up an observation that fits well with one of the current challenges facing the league -- getting people to choose to attend games in lieu of watching at home.

He said that he went to Super Bowl XLII between the Giants and the Patriots. “I didn’t enjoy it at all,” David said. “I’m used to watching games on television, and being there it’s not the same. You really don’t see what’s going on.”

David, a Jets fan who once called G.M. Mike Tannenbaum in an effort to urge the team to trade up in the 2006 draft for Vince Young or Reggie Bush, also said that the Jets should have declined to participate in the show that aired earlier this year on the network that hosts David’s current show.

“It’s an invasion of your privacy,” David said of the team’s stint on Hard Knocks. “Would you want somebody in your house? That’s what it’s like. It takes away from the focus that a team needs when it’s preparing for the season.”

David also disagreed with the decision of the Yankees to bring in former Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy for a pre-game talk with the team. Not because it was Dungy, but because David believes the defending World Series champion doesn’t need an outside pep talk from anyone.

“Knute Rockne could come back from the dead and I wouldn’t allow him in,” David said.

The full show is worth a lazy Friday listen.
