Josh Scobee nails 59-yard field goal to beat Colts

Enjoy the moment, Josh Scobee.  It doesn’t get any cooler than kicking a 59-yard field goal to beat the Colts.

We’d say the Jaguars “stunned” the Colts 31-28 on Sunday, but anyone that has watched these two teams play can’t be totally stunned.  It’s the most underrated rivalry in football, at least in terms of creating annual instant classics.    This one didn’t disappoint.

17 points were scored in the final two and a half minutes.  Maurice Jones-Drew, who rushed for 105 yards, scored his touchdown with 2:13 remaining.  Peyton Manning took over, nearly got picked, then found Reggie Wayne for a 42-yard gain that led to a game-tying Austin Collie score.

The Good David Garrard was back on Sunday, and he calmly found Tiquan Underwood for two key grabs, including a beautiful 22-yard strike along the sideline.  That set up Scobee’s memorable moment.

The Jaguars have been outscored by 40 points in their four games.  The Colts have outscored their opponents by 25.  But none of that matters because both teams are now 2-2 after the first quarter of the season.

Great, great win by the Jaguars in another Jaguars-Colts classic.

Waiting for Viking fans to declare the Colts sucky.

The reason most people don’t care is A) They will never see this game on TV and B) the Jags usually suck, so who cares?
Is a good game still a good game if there is no one there to see it?

And they overcame a couple of questionable false start penalties.
Even worse was the Jones “injury” that stopped the clock for the Colts with less than two minutes to go.
    That was pathetic.

    Hey downwithdansnyder,
The game was on TV locally. Go suck on a lemon

No mention of two of the worst timeouts ever taken by a coach? Huge fail, Caldwell.

I think “stunned” is exactly the word I would use. There was nothing that Jacksonville has done to indicate to me they could win this game. Who does this help? The Texans, who now go to 3-1 and are 1-0 in the division, while the Colts now have 2 division losses.
Could the Colts actually miss the playoffs? Yeah it’s early, but that defense made Jacksonville look like an offensive juggernaut.

  7. 4ever19 says: Oct 3, 2010 7:46 PM

Colts gave this one away with porous (horrifically terrible) run defense in the first half and a pair of crucial turnovers in the 2nd. Never should have come down to a 59-yard FG.
I did say to my to son when the Colts scored they left too much time on the clock.
    6-10 Colts, here we come.

Not only are you misinformed, but you’re clearly stupid. 3rd sellout just like every season except for last. But you’re a Florio nut-hugger and think everything he writes is gospel. Dumbass. F*ck you and the Colts.

Idiot! Why would the Kings fans’ declare the colts sucky??? Your post does not even make any sense and on top of that, you must be a fudge fan. Get a clue moron and try your best to come up with a halfway thought-out take.
Anyway Scobee hit the hell outta that FG, I’m shocked the Colts lost to a team who looked lifeless before this week.

Nice job with the timeout Caldewell. They were perfectly content with going to overtime with that draw until you decided to start trying to coach. Just wear your headset, keep your mouth shut, and let Peyton run things.

    Downwithdansnyder:
    1) Last year’s game was a nationally televised game…if you consider NFL Network national TV.
    2) The last few minutes of this week game was nationally televised…for the few million that still watch 60 Minutes.
    3) This will probably be Sunday night or Monday night game in 2012. By then the team will have a quality coach and quarterback.
But I hear you DownwithDan…Jaguars will lose to the Bills next week; Jack Del Rio never has his team ready for teams they should beat. Instead of going in to the Monday night game with Titans 3-2 in week six, they will be 2-3!!!

No it wasn’t- there were thousands of empty seats hiding under tarps.

yeah, all they got going for them anymore is rooting against teams after they learned they don’t have one worth rooting for.

On Sunday NFL Countdown Mike Ditka said “Garrard would struggle and to make it worse he would struggle with only 25,000 people in the stands”. Wow, seriously. This old has-been is trying to through blows at Jax, but obviously the game has past him and doesn’t have a clue. If they weren’t so worried about Brett Farve, the “haven’t done nothing in 14 years” Cowboys and the “haven’t done anything in 45 years” Jets maybe they’d have a clue. F*ck you Mike Ditka.

I’m a Pats fan, but I enjoy Vic Ketchman’s work so I always pay some attention to how the Jags are doing .
The Colts, like the Steelers, are a long term respected rival so i always have their opponents to cheer for.
Thus, despite never even visiting florida, the Jags beating the Colts is like bacon to this hungry man, very, very tasty.

Scobee you can thank Caldwell for giving you a chance to kick that field goal. How freakin retarded do you have to be to call a timeout when the other team is TRYING TO RUN THE CLOCK OUT AND GO TO OVERTIME?????!!!!! Especially after an 8 yard run!! I could understand it a little if we stopped them for no gain, but that didnt happen AT ALL the whole game!!
Worst “coach” of all time. I want this team to fail until he gets fired, thats how much I hate his guts

  20. rmavrick27 says: Oct 3, 2010 8:41 PM

Without tarps stadius holds 76, 000. With tarps around 66, 000 which is more seats than in both Chicago & Indianapolis. Facts please (realitypolice) not off the cusp moronic comments. I think you gotta buh buh bad brain!

Hey Fudge, you are posting on a Colts/Jax thread. I know most of you fudge fan’s lack the ability to read or spell past the level of a 5th grader, but c’mon man. Have you seen/read one post by a VIKING fan rooting against eiether one of these teams??? Oh that’s right, I suppose you can’t read so nevermind. It took your Fudge the entire game to beat the Lions??? Brilliant performance today!

Not quite. The seats are still there under the tarps. For the Super Bowl, Florida-Georgia game, and occasionally the Gator Bowl, temporary bleachers are put up in the south end zone and the tarps are removed, raising capacity to over 84,000. (wikipedia)

  27. JoeJags says: Oct 3, 2010 11:12 PM

    Just for clarification…….
Jaguars attendance average and NFL rank:
    2006 — 66,858 — 19th
    2007 — 65,301 — 22nd
    2008 — 65,167 — 17th
    2009 — 49,651 — 30th
    2010 — 63,334 — 13th (avg including todays)
So as you can see…….except for a perfect storm of bad economy and below average team last year, the Jags are right in the middle of the league in attendance……and by the way, the NFL average, per capita, of sales needed to sell out in the NFL, is 1 out of every 67 people in the NFL area per city……the Jags have to have an average of 1 out of every 16 in pop. in their assigned market…….just food for thought for all of the naysayers……

  28. EastCoastConnect says: Oct 3, 2010 11:22 PM

63,111 in attendance to watch Satan Manning and the almighty Colts lose to the Jags. Tie in the TV viewers in the local Jacksonville area as the game once again was NOT blacked out and throw in the fans in Indy and that is quite a large number of people who witnessed the Colts losing to the Jaguars. Oh and let’s not forget the constant rotation of the highlight reel showing on ESPN and the NFL Network.
Colts = 0-2 in their own division. Pretty weak
Anyone can say what they want but the fans in Jax stepped up this season and the team stepped up today. It’s about time PFT actually gives credit to the rivalry of these 2 teams as they always play a close game.
    Jags 31 Colts 28 … no blackouts.
    Hate on Haters.
