Ken Whisenhunt on QBs: "I think we're going to go without one this week"

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has watched enough of Derek Anderson and Max Hall.  There’s only one logical move left to make.

“I think we’re going to go without [a quarterback this week. I think we’re going to go with all Wildcat,” Whisenhunt said Monday.

(Yes, of course that was a joke from Whisenhunt.)

Whisenhunt decided not to announce his starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Saints yet out of “fairness” to everyone involved.  He’s not holding back the news for strategic purposes.

“To be quite honest with you, I really don’t think New Orleans is scared
with who we play there at quarterback,” Whisenhunt said.

Now that’s the painful truth, even though we think Hall, an undrafted rookie, could wind up being pretty good.  We’d be shocked if Anderson got the call.

If I owned this team I would be saying that we will be going without a head coach this week as well.

The 0-3gles would love Anderson or Hall right about now.

Wow. That’s really harsh on his team! True, but harsh. And it shouldn’t be said to the media.

Matt Lienert – Meet the last laugh, you have earned it.

Wisenhut should be fired. It appears that is was Wisenhut who was the problem and not Leinart. It appears that it should have been Wisenhut leaving rather than Leinart.

make a trade for Kevin Kolb. . please. . PLEASE

  8. dwoofy says: Oct 4, 2010 3:47 PM

Everybody in Phoenix seems to have flipped over this undrafted rookie. There is a reason that scores of professional scouts did not even have the guy as a draft prospect. Now the sportscasters in Phoenix talk about him like he was the next Dan Marino. The Cardinals traded UP to get Skelton. Hopefully, Hall will go in, flop quickly, and we won’t have to listen to any more of his arrogant entitlement speeches like he gave after the game on KTAR radio. Go Skelton!

Cheer up Ken, you’re tied for 1st in your division, have a better record than Minnesota and Dallas and you get to play in the NFC West!!

That is what happens when you cut the best one your franchise has.

I bet they wish they had Matt Leinart right about now…

AP Newswire, Glendale AZ: “The Arizona Cardinals have announced that they will build a 10,000 seat church at a location of Kurt Warner’s choosing in exchange for his immediate return to the team. Construction is expected to begin before the last week of the NFL Playoffs”

having derek anderson as one of your options makes going without a QB a pretty attractive choice. thank goodness they cut leinart and didn’t try to get mcnabb.

I like it, just have Graham punt on first downs. Anderson’s got no excuse for his lack of talent; he’s got too many weapons and tenure now to try and chaulk it up to integrating into the offense or some other such BS. No reason to put Hall in harm’s way right now either; our O-line is suspect at best, so let DA take the concussions until we’re into the final 5 games and can give Hall some reps looking to next year. We could run punts coming our way back toward our endzone for Safety’s; probably end up beaten by less points.

myeaglescantwin: based on Kolb’s play this year (granted it’s not much), Whiz probably won’t be too interested in him either.

  16. funi says: Oct 4, 2010 4:42 PM

dwoofy is correct! Start Skelton! Phoenix media loves Hall because he played in Mesa! However 32 did not draft him because of a reason.. ARM STRENGTH! Skelton is bigger with a stronger arm. As for Lienart, He was a bum here and that is why he is 3rd string in Houston! Where Whiz messed uo is he had chance to get McNabb in offseason and did not. Cards can still win divison with a 9-7 record.

  17. iTorrey says: Oct 4, 2010 4:45 PM

How can anybody say it was a mistake to cut Leinart just because they don’t have a solution now? Going after McNabb… of course they should have, but keep around Matt because their other options also suck isn’t a solution. Leinart had tons of chances and failed every time. Not only that, he was expensive to keep around. If Leinart was in they’d be in the same position as they are now, at least they recognized that he sucked and at least tried to make something else happen, even if they did the old fashioned Cardinal way (half-assed).

Whisenhunt is wayy over-rated. Can’t blamed your QB. You didn’t offer Warner a mega contract. Ran out leinert. Maybe if you focus on your DEFENSE and RUNNIG game, maybe your QB will be more sucessful.

  19. King Buccaneer says: Oct 4, 2010 4:53 PM

HAHA @ the guys wanting Leinart back!
Don’t you think they knew there was a very good chance DA wouldn’t be worth a damn and Leinart was worse than Max Hall?

  20. BBrophy1 says: Oct 4, 2010 5:13 PM

The only reason to play Anderson is if they don’t want to throw Hall to the wolves until after the bye week. Give him a solid 2 weeks of practicing with the starters so his confidence isn’t rocked by the aggressive Gregg Williams defense.

  21. Deb says: Oct 4, 2010 5:22 PM

How does Anderson not being good make Leinart any better? The reality is that there are not enough great QBs to go around for 32 teams. Surely that’s not news to anyone. Why do you think Vikings players are flying to Hattiesburg begging Brett Favre to stay another year? The biggest mistake Whis made was in not sending Fitzgerald and a couple of others to Warner’s place with a box of humble pie.
Fire Whis?? With the help of a Hall of Fame QB, the guy turned one of the worst franchises in the NFL into a Super Bowl contender. Excuse the cliche but you can’t expect him to make an omelette with no eggs. Not even Vince Lombardi himself could produce a winner without a QB.
The only way Leinart gets the last laugh is if he suddenly turns into a QB somewhere else. I’ll believe it when I see it.

  22. Dirka28 says: Oct 4, 2010 9:06 PM

Not a cardinals fan at all but to all the people saying max hall can’t be any good because he was undrafted, Antonio Pierce, Adewale Ogunleye, Ryan Grant, London Fletcher, Jeff Saturday, Wayne Chrebet, Wes Welker, James, Harrison, Tony Romo, Priest Holmes, Antonio Gates, Rod Smith, Kurt Warner, Warren Moon would like a word with you. All Undrafted. Also Dick Lane.

This is the absolute definition of the term schadenfreude – for Matt Leinart that is.

  25. Algus says: Oct 5, 2010 2:34 AM

The Cardinals offensive line is so terrible it wouldn’t matter who you would put in there. I wouldn’t be so quick to call on Leinart or McNabb. Our defense isn’t helping matters either. This team has some serious problems in all aspects of the game and it seems like every time our playmakers do something, those big plays get called back on penalties from the numbskulls playing with them.

  26. Jagerbolt says: Oct 5, 2010 12:59 PM

Whiz made the right call in dumping Leinart. He had every chance to prove himself and didn’t do squat. Amazing how quickly Cardinals fans forget it was Whiz who built this team into what it was. Would you fans rather have Dennis Green back? He does have great post-game melt downs.
Better question is what happened to that o-line? I thought Russ Grimm is supposed to be an amazing o-line coach? Or has the talent declined that drastically since Warner left?
If Whiz can’t fix this mess after a couple of drafts, then yes, THEN you are fire him.

Ken Whisenhunt on QBs: “I think we’re going to go without one this week” ….. That will work because the Saints are going without a secondary.
