Bush and McFadden are two different types of Running Backs. Bush is a pounder and McFadden is a speedster. We need both to a be fully effective Offense.
That, and a reliable receiver not named Miller. I don't think the big difference for McFadden this year is the blocking. He's just running lower, and he's finishing. He used to go down at the first hint of contact, but now he's just trucking guys. It's more attitude than anything. When DBs square up on him he just lowers his shoulder and pops them. He rarely did that before.

The big difference with McFadden this year, besides starting the year healthy for a change, is his patience waiting for the hole to open.
Up until this year, he was impatient and just ran into his lineman and opposing linemen.

What you all seem to be missing is that there was/is a style difference in the way the oline blocks for both guys.
When Bush was the starter or got a good chunk of the carries, the offense utilized a zone blocking scheme. It better suited Bush because Bush has looser hips than McFadden and could shift direction from one gap to the next or could cutback run. Now, this year the team is going to a power blocking scheme in which the runner simply runs through the A or B gap; which is better suited for DMC's running style.

McFadden is doing much better when he doesn't have to be patient in the zone blocking scheme. Michael Bush is better than McFadden anyway.

Last year, i would have said go with Bush, but MCFad is the 4th leading rusher this year. I think he's finally getting it. I give the edge to MCFad for his receiving skills

"Michael Bush is better than McFadden anyway."
Pass me some of what you're smokin!! Not even a comparison. Mcfadden has been hurt pretty much every year since he came into the league. This year he's healthy and as I mentioned in an earlier post the 4th leading rusher in the league. Bush is good, but not as fast and not nearly as good of hands. If you look at DMC's all purpose yards he probably has another 200 in receptions.

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 5, 2010 10:39 AM ET
With third-stringer Michael Bennett also hurt, it won't be hard to guess McFadden's status by Sunday. They need to sign someone if he's not available.
--------------------------------------------------
Not really...Rock Cartwright of Redskins fame is on the roster (and he performance good enough during training camp that the Raiders decided to keep him).
Expect A LOT of Bush and a sprinkle of Rock Cartwright (according to Jerry McDonald of Insidebayarea.com/raiders) who knows more about the Raiders than most (including you ironically).
The team is also high on Marcel Reece (6' 3"/240 lbs) who scored a TD last week and his spot at FB could be taken by Manase Tonga (5' 11" 245 lbs) off the Raiders practice squad.
Besides who is out there as a free agent running back? Willie Parker? Justin Fargas? Not sure they would bring in someone like that for just one or two games.

Sorry Gregg, you're wrong again. But keeping waiting for them to sign someone as an indication of McFadden's health. You'll be waiting a long time.
A quick glance at the Raiders roster and you'll see a guy by the name of Rock Cartwright. They won't be signing any running backs regardless of McFadden's status.
