Osi Umenyiora had three sacks with two bad knees

Unfortunately for Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora was willing to play through pain on Sunday night.

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that Umenyiora, who had been listed as questionable for the game with a knee injury, was actually battling more significant knee injuries than previously reported.

According to Vacchiano, if Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka hadn’t been sidelined by a neck injury, Umenyiora might have sat out the game against the Bears. As it turned out, Umenyiora did go, and he had three sacks.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Umenyiora sat out Friday’s practice because of swelling in his right knee, but Vacchiano reports that Umenyiora’s left knee was bothering him even more, to the point where Umenyiora considered sitting out and ended up playing only after he had an injection in his left knee.

Umenyiora is also toughing it out through a hip injury that is expected to require surgery.

One unnamed Giants source described Umenyiora by saying, “He is banged up beyond belief.”

Thanks Osi. Giant fans appreciate the effort.
Nothing like seeing a sea of Giants blue swarm an opposing QB.

Morgan Burnett of the Packers played two series with a torn ACL. Kind of impressive also.
