Pats check out a couple of kickers

With kicker Stephen Gostkowksi banging five of seven Monday night kickoffs for touchbacks on Monday night and generally regarded as one of the better kickers in the league, the Pats apparently don’t want him to get complacent.

On Wednesday, they brought in veterans Shaun Suisham and Shayne Graham for a tire-kicking, per a league source.

Gostkowski, a fourth-round pick in the draft after Adam Vinatieri defected to Indy, has missed three field goals, but he has made three out of three in the last two games.

  1. I dont understand there thinking at times ,Gostowski is probable the best if not top 2 or 3 kickers in the NFL, whats the problem is his contract up at the end of the year as well???

  2. At last the intentions behind the Moss trade reveal themselves: clear out Moss’ salary to make room for Shaun Suisham.
    Hello Superbowl! ughhhh

  3. not news, he’s always bring people in to update his lists in case someone gets injured. This happens constantly, I didnt notice last weeks visitors posted as news.

  4. guys relax…its very common for the teams to bring in players for tryouts to evaluate them so they can make an emergency list of people to call if anyone gets hurt.
Gostkowski is not in danger, and probably not hurt at all, its pretty common, especially in a bye week.
And his contract isnt up, they just resigned him this off season

  5. They should check out some long snappers too – the root of at least two of the three missed FG’s (it would have been more were it not for Mesko)

  6. Spymaster is angling for more picks in next year’s draft. Shank Graham will only lose games for you…why else would the Pats want him?

  7. Stephen Gostkowksi is under contract for the next 4 yrs at 4 million a year. So this is just to keep Steven honest and so he doesn’t get to be complacent. Also it may be that they need a scout team kicker. I have no idea what goes through Nick C the personel expert and coach Belichick when they bring in players for a tire kicking exercise every week. But it is what it is.

  8. They are just updating the rolodex on who to call if anyone gets hurt– they do this for every single position, no matter how good the people are who play that position.
It doesn’t mean they will sign them (that is rare), it means they know instantly who to call should an injury happen, and injuries often happen.

  9. Kickers are a quirky bunch, and the slightest change in their routine can throw them into a “funk”. Good planning, Pats… throw your kicker INTO a funk when he’s nailing it pretty well. Can’t let the offense be the only group up-ended this week.

  10. This is obviously a step in the process of bringing in a new wide receiver via a trade. I presume Gostowski is part of deal with Carolina to obtain Steve Smith.
Pats send a third round pick, Gostowski, and Edelman to Carolina for Steve Smith.
Steve Smith’s injury is superficial, he has “Jimmy Clauson is my QB and I’m not risking my career for him while we go 0-16”
Why Gostowski? because field goals are the only way Carolina will score this year.

  11. I hear Gostkowski got into a shouting match with the special teams coordinator at half time because all of the TDs they were scoring weren’t giving him enough field goal opportunities.

  12. There is a zero percent chance that the Patriots bring in Steve Smith. They just got rid of one headache (in their mind), why would they bring in another?

  13. Holy crap people. it’s they’re bye week. Why not bring in a few guys and take a look in case the worst happens?

  14. Sounds alittle like gruden in tb. Clean house on good wideouts and stock pile on kickers, instead gruden stock piled on qbs.
Both had a armada of banged up running backs too

  15. Breaking news: Pats are trying to trade Gostkowsky. Bill Bellichik says, the Pats don’t have enough draft picks next year.

    lmao
but you forgot to mention that what sent him over the edge was when the special teams coach refused to go for the onside kick after the last td.

  17. @Bengals Season Ticket Chump
I would say that the fact ur team and franchise r nothing we be the reason the Bengals lose. Cant blame Graham for the games u lose this year.
