Sterger question scrubbed out of Favre transcript

In early August, Deadspin posted an item regarding allegations from former Jets in-house sideline reporter Jenn Sterger, who claimed that former Jets quarterback Brett Favre pursued her romantically -- and sent her photos of a certain part of his anatomy unrelated to throwing a football.

At no point after the story emerged did anyone in the media ask Favre about the story.

Earlier today, Deadspin posted audio of voice messages that Favre allegedly left for Sterger and images that he allegedly texted.

During a Thursday afternoon press conference, which we encourage you to watch while searching for unintended audible and visual double entendres, Favre finally was asked about the situation. He declined to address it and, in so doing, failed to deny any of it.

Fine. That’s his prerogative. But the situation got more interesting when, as Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald points out, the Vikings P.R. staff scrubbed the question and answer out of the circulated transcript of Favre’s remarks.

Video on the Vikings website continues to include the question and answer.

Though major media outlets like ESPN, which will be broadcasting Monday night’s Vikings-Jets game and knows a thing or two about photos of certain body parts being shared among coworkers, can try to ignore the story by simply disregarding the Deadspin item, the asking of the question at a press conference -- and the insertion of an answer by Favre -- makes the omission of any mention of the situation more glaring.

Which may explain the decision to leave the question and answer out of the transcript.
