Jets players happy Brett Favre wound up elsewhere

Brett Favre’s one-year stay with the Jets has already been so thoroughly forgotten than it’s barely a storyline heading into Monday night’s game. (A certain wide receiver trade may have something to do with that.)

Favre wasn’t in New York long enough to make much of an impact.

“It was quick,” guard Brandon Moore told Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.  “He got here in August and he was gone in December. He was in and
out. It was a lot of fun in the beginning, but it ended badly.”

Another player said, “It’s like he wasn’t even here.”

And those were the guys that were kind when asked about Favre this week.  There was some resentment by Jets players that New York wasn’t his preferred destination for a trade.

“I’m not going to say ‘good riddance,’ but put it this way: I’m glad it worked out the way it did,” one anonymous player told Cimini.

Another was asked about Favre’s claim that Rex Ryan could have possibly convinced him to return to the Jets in 2009.

“Are you serious?” one player said.  “I’ve got better things to do than answer Favre what-ifs.”

Somewhere, a bunch of Green Bay Packers are silently nodding.

Ah, when all else fails to induce the interest of a story, pull out the good, old “anonymous” source.
There’s nothing more tragic than grown men that cannot find the inner strength to move on. The Packers moved on. The Jets moved on. Brett Favre moved on. Why can’t the “Static Duo” of Florio and Rosenthal do the same???

You’d think the media would get tired of the constant Favre ego stroke bonanza, but they just keep it going. It’s nauseating. I wish Favre would just find something else to do with his life. Run for public office or something. He’d be a terrible politician but I can’t think of any good ones, so why not? At least he’d get the daily attention he clearly needs.

From the “duh” department. That’s two teams and counting that are happy to be rid of this jackass.
Favre WAS a great player but those days are long gone. Today he’s serviceable, but hey, if the Vikes think $20 million will sell more tickets and get a stadium, more power to ‘em.
Meanwhile the Jets and Packers were and are building competitive teams. without a me-first douchebag like Favre waltzing in after training camp only to blow big games.
Sit tight, Vike fans – the slapdown is coming on Monday, followed by another one at Lambeau.

Beat a dead horse already! There are lots of Jet players who feel differently. It is always easier to hear from the complainers. Just having Favre on the team ended up with more Jets getting selected to the Pro Bowl, just as he did in MN. He brought a ton of ratings and money to the Jets, so why don’t they just shut up. Now they have Rex and don’t need another publicity machine. Did they remember that they were 4-12 before he came? Why is there no focus on the Pack and how they were 13-3 and then 6-10? Also, there are lots of Pack players who miss Favre, but they did not like getting caught between Favre and Thompson. No problem now since Rodgers and TT are two peas in a pod–literally.

    Rich Cimini ??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You should have read his rock star status, butt-smooching columns on Favre a.) when he first got there and b.) throughout the first 11-12 weeks of the 2008 season.
Funny how 2 YEARS LATER he now wants to “magically” seem as if everything he wrote back then, doesn’t matter, or didn’t happen.
Gotta love sportswriters – they can ALWAYS turn stuff around to make things “appear” the way they want them to (right Florio ???), or that the butt-smooching columns they themselves wrote, never actually appeared !

    This fan’s reaction:
Pissed when the news conference announced Favre’s arrival,
mad when Pennington was cast out,
saying “told you so” when Favre tanked the season (shocker!!).
The Vikings can sell their souls to the devil. The Jets will keep Sanchez. Despite what the media is fabricating, most of us are happy with Sanchez’s performance, especially in his rookie year.

  32. VikingsPrincess says: Oct 8, 2010 12:00 PM

    @LowPadLevel
I’m pretty sure Brett Favre isn’t writing these articles. If anyone craves attention, it’s Florio and he knows Favre headlines draw readers.
IMO you can only blame Favre for seeking attention when HE gives the occasional interview. Which he doesn’t do very often, by the way.
You can’t hold someone accoutable for what others do – and that includes the media. If you’re tired of reading about Favre – don’t click. Of course, the fact that you’re commenting and complaining about him needing attention, you’re obviously interested so Florio did his job.

Well, you guys have your own measuring stick I guess. And you couldn’t beat the Dolphins and barely got by the Lions, both at home. The Jets are going to stomp you. Moss is a diminished player, that’s why Belicheck DUMPED him. Just like the Packers dumped Favre.
You see, there are alpha teams that dump before it’s too late. And there are beta and omega teams that lap up the sloppy seconds and get screwed. The Vikings are betas.

  67. dlmcc0909 says: Oct 8, 2010 1:18 PM

This worked out for both sides. The Jets team wouldnt be half as good as it is with a player like Brett Favre trying to be above the team. that club has bought into Rex Ryans coaching and his system. Brett Favre doesnt do that, Childress buys into HIS system. If the most important player on the field doesnt buy into what your trying to do, the team doesnt work. This Jets team has a solid chemistry with each other and the coach. Its a contender.
for the Vikings, there is no doubt Favre makes them a better team. TJackson and Sage were not taking that team very far. Brett took them to the championship game. I dont know about them this year, but there would be no way to argue about his importance to that team

  77. sand0 says: Oct 8, 2010 2:24 PM

    Alphamail,
Jets are 3 point favorites at home. Home field usually accounts for 3 points. So the general public doesn’t think the Jets are any better than the Vikes. Your coach just gave a glowing review of the Vikings team.
You are underestimating the Vikings. This will be a very tough battle for your team. The Vikings weren’t beaten badly by the Dolphins or Saints and now they have their corners back and a guy named Moss.
    Jets lose 17-6.

  79. JimmySmith says: Oct 8, 2010 2:31 PM

BrINT might have been there only a few months but Jenn is sure to remember his short time there.
What the Jets aren’t saying is this, “We worked our asses off all year to get to the playoffs, we sure are happy not to have BrINT on our team once we get there. The last two NCF Championship games, his last offensive play ended in an INT and his team lost. Boy, are we glad it wasn’t the Jets either time because a choker is the worse sort of teammate you can have unless you play on a choker team, ah, kinda like the 0-5 record in NFC championship games or the 0-4 Superbowl record for the Vikings which qualifies them as the biggest choke team in NFL history, then BrINT fits them like a glove”

  80. GB3Pack4 says: Oct 8, 2010 2:35 PM

Re the comments of the big brave Jets players fond of anonymous comments and locker room petulance – and the blindered PFT commenters who keep sour-grapeing Favre’s accomplishments by saying things like he’s been done and over for a long time – 2009 wasn’t a long time ago, at least not on my calendar. That season was basically four games ago, and no one knows how this season will end.
I think it’s going to be a season of highs and low lows for both the Vikes and the Pack, rather than a consistent-performance year, but I don’t know either. I do know, however, that denigrating one of the greats of the game AUTOMATICALLY, just because his name is mentioned, only mnakes the commenter looks stupid. Just like everyone else, Favre is deserving of condemnation for some things and praise for others. He’s neither perfect NOR a perfect villain.
No one factor makes a team great or lousy – that’s why they call it a team. When all the elements come together in the best possible way – owners, players, coaches, injuries and rehabs, acquisitions, releases, drafts, weather, location, timing, etc., etc., etc., we get great games and great seasons.
What we could use more of is great comments. Appreciate the varied but thoughtful remarks of ozu, dcnflfan, mrsteve, dlmcc0909, pkrlvr, vikingsprincess and deeppurple23.

What else are the Jet losers supposed to say?
Can’t wait until Monday night when MN opens up a big case of whup ass in NY…

  83. FavretoMoss says: Oct 8, 2010 2:55 PM

True. Because Favre sure showed he had something to prove, and really shoved it to Ted when he threw the ball to the SAINTS last year, didn’t he? Or that he still had it when he threw a season ender to the Giants in his last Packer game…spare me. Apparently, the other sleeping giant likes to sleep so much, he leaves the field early to get a head start on his naps.
Either way, Vikes are piss pounded this Monday and are at 1-4….enjoy
    ===========================
Yeah, that Favre guy sucks when he’s motivated.
How dare he “only” make it to the NFCCG 2 out of the last 3 years. Your screen name says it all.
It’s too bad his replacement just chokes the game away in the Wild Card round huh? Your GM plugs holes with street FA”s instead of real players. I just love all you jokers predicting a loss, what happens if they win? I’ll save you the trouble, they will have lucked out, right?
Your IQ could not drop anymore, they don’t measure negatives. Is this the week your fruity QB bites the dust? The Packers are averaging 2 injuries a week. Yet they are still going to win the north, right? Delusional as usual.

I’ll tell you like I told wtf_seriously, the Vikes D will not give up more than 17 points & good luck slowing down AD. I’ll holler back late Monday evening.
    Go VIKES!!!!!

“I’m not going to say ‘good riddance,’ but put it this way: I’m glad it worked out the way it did,” one anonymous player told Cimini.
Classic “I’m making something up” line from Cimini.
Anonymous Source in “Cimini-Speak” means him making something up.

Vikings sure are dominant on the road. LOL
Jets win this one 28-13…no sweat.

Favre and Moss are finally where they both wanted to be all along. Simple as that. It’s not right or wrong, good or bad…that’s just what they wanted.

  91. rarson says: Oct 8, 2010 4:20 PM

“Are you serious?” one player said. “I’ve got better things to do than answer Favre what-ifs.”
That’s not a knock on Favre, that’s a knock on a stupid ****ing question. Of course, those sorts of details don’t matter to a fine journalist such as yourself; you’ll report the news however you damn well please.

Now we can’t even comment on the Haynesworth article!
Let me get this straight the racoon hatted goofball who runs this site makes a comment even more insensitive than any of the comments so they take it down and take away our ability to comment?
5 days is all it took from the start of the “a new attitiude to comments” to “banning comments about our stupidity” for this site to end up in the ditch. Even back on the dot bust era that would be some kind of record.

More bulletin board material for the Vikings. There are times when players should just shut up. I have a feeling the Jets are in for a big surprise.
    GO STEELERS!

    Mooch –
You couldnt be anymore further than the truth and facts than your little rant there. Good use of CAPITAL letters TOO.”
You don’t get it. That was a parody of the media who scold paying fans for cheering/booing who they want to. Because we should feel we’re in these guys’ “debt” for having paid to watch them play a game (and make millions in the process).
Boo Favre all you want, I will be right there with you. But know you were never held to the standard Philly fans were – who were seemingly expected to cheer McNabb for 60 minutes last week.
Just know that ESPN and has-been Pam Oliver will equate you with Ho Chi Mihn for having exercised that right as a paying customer.

The Jets are a bunch of thug, punk azz, loudmouth pu$$ies…and that especially includes their FANS…(they are going nowhere this year!)

    @ IgnoringtheHaters,
I live in Jersey and according to a CNN study I live in a top area in the country. Jersey > where you live.
    ————————————————–
HAHAHAHAHA…. by far, that is the funniest thing I’ve ever read on here – and that’s saying something.
The only way that “Jersey>where you live” is if you live in Ethiopia.
No, we’re not laughing with you. We’re laughing at you.

Two douchy teams. What we’re getting out of this whole Favre mess is what a fall from grace that befallen Queen (previously Lord) Favre. The queen was the golden child of the NFL, who (most) everyone rooted for, the aging vet who could still play and wanted to. Then came the waffling and crying and holding of franchises hostage with his indecisions.
Finally the Packers drafted his future. Did Burt embrace and take the young guy under his wing? No. The the aging vet shunned and refused to have anything to do with the young gun. Then he demanded his own parking spot and dressing area so he wouldn’t have to associate with his teammates. The whole retirement and crying and then demanding the Pack take back after they moved on. He stamped his feet and forced his way out to the Jets, where he did terrible, shunned his teammates and “retired”. Then he went where he wanted to go all along, the Packers rival.
He “retired” and then refused to come back until they gave him a gigantic payraise and had his personal entourage kiss his ass to come back, conveniently at the end of training camp.
His PR guys may try to project him as an aw-shucks and down-to-earth farmboy who wears his Wranglers. In reality, he’s a cranky old man who thinks he’s bigger than his teammates who are there to do his bidding, the coach, the organization and the NFL.
Is it any wonder most rationale football fans hate the diva that is Bret Favre?

Funny how they said on MNF that Woody Johnson brought Favre in to help sell PSL’s in the new stadium.
