T.J. Houshmandzadeh wishes he was Anquan Boldin

A game-winning touchdown hasn’t changed T.J. Houshmandzadeh’s disappointment about his lack of playing time in Baltimore.

The wide receiver says he was told he would catch 50-60 passes in Baltimore, but he only has five grabs through four weeks.  After playing plenty in the first two games, he only had roughly 12 snaps in Week Three against the Browns.  He says that barely changed against the Steelers last week.

Houshmandzadeh admittedly has Boldin envy.

“Q [Anquan Boldin] is going to be happy. That’s just the reality of it,”
Houshmandzadeh said via the Baltimore Sun. “Q and [tight end Todd] Heap, they’re going to get
their balls. They brought Q in, they gave up draft picks and gave him a
nice contract. They’re going to find ways to get him the ball. I can
appreciate that because I thought that’s what I was getting [in
Seattle]. I wish it was me. But it’s not.”

Housh worked his way up from a seventh-round draft pick to a role player to a star.  He would be well served to embrace becoming a quality role player again, because he’s never going to be Q.

His stats would look a whole lot better if he didn’t keep dropping catchable balls when he does get on the field.

“Q and Heap, they’re going to get their balls.”
    Pause.

  3. Swillhog says: Oct 8, 2010 2:23 PM

After hearing him go off in Seattle and already starting now on a team that is a Superbowl contender, I would change the name on his jersey to Douchemandzadeh if I were the Ravens equipment guy.

  4. Levito says: Oct 8, 2010 2:23 PM

Why do we continue to see stories about this guy? He’s not good, he had a few decent seasons. But he runs his mouth like he’s a good WR, and really, he couldn’t stand out from a pedestrian group of WRs in Seattle. Let’s move on to someone relevant please.

  8. BCfromHell says: Oct 8, 2010 2:26 PM

Easy solution.., catch more, drop less and the ball will come w/ more consistency. Sure.., you had the game winner last week, but there have been several very catch-able balls hitting the ground when thrown his way.
    Simple,

  9. Ravensatron says: Oct 8, 2010 2:27 PM

We appreciate you in bmore housh. I said it before the steelers game… I’m not a fan of him or his attitude, but we gotta get hi

WHO CARES? His team beat the PITTSBURGH STEELERS. Who cares what he “was told.” His team beat a very good team.
You play football for a living and make millions of dollars while the rest of us grind it out to get by. Housh, you are a joke, who cares how many passes go your way, you get paid the SAME!
Do what you can to help the team win when your name is called and stop belly aching. It could be worse, you could be back on the Bungals.

Does anyone know where I can get a BIG BEN costume? You know….the one with the leather Steelers helmet, beige trench coat, and a “BIG BEN” attached to puppet strings controlled from within the pockets of the trench coat, that unfolds when you open the trench coat?
Anyone know where to find that costume?

  16. Dub410 says: Oct 8, 2010 2:35 PM

TJ has around 3-5 drops so far this year. He catches those and he is on pace for a 40-50 catch season.

  17. Jay16 says: Oct 8, 2010 2:38 PM

T.J is a freakin joke. The letters stand for The.Joke because thats what he is. You just can’t take his skills or playing seriously. The guy thinks he has Jerry Rice talent and he’s more John Taylor or Ricky Sanders then Art Monk. Get real.

  20. rickah88888 says: Oct 8, 2010 2:46 PM

    I hope he retires immediately!!
His last name always throws off the CBS Sportsline fantasy football live game screen margins!!
Maybe he can have Chad Ochocinco’s old last name: TJ Johnson!

  21. avlino says: Oct 8, 2010 2:46 PM

Boldin is a legitimate number one receiver in this league. TJ is a decent number two. He should know his role in this offense and just be glad that he is playing on a winning team after he didn’t play up to his big contract from a year ago. He’s basically in a battle with Mason for the number two spot. Mason is catching everything thrown his way while TJ can’t even hold on to some of the easy ones. This will get even more interesting when Stallworth comes back.

  22. theotherside says: Oct 8, 2010 2:48 PM

  28. Deb says: Oct 8, 2010 2:58 PM

Have to say I was shocked when I realized Houshmandzadeh had caught the game-winner. Assumed it would be Boldin. As RAMROD said, T.J. is making $7 million, playing on a contending team, and made the game-winning catch against his team’s toughest division rival. And he’s whining. Good grief. Is whining a prerequisite for that position???
Boldin has been one of the most impressive acquisitions by any team this year. Just exceptional and great to watch … except when he’s playing us.
    @LanMan …
Can’t imagine what that has to do with the thread, but if you’re too stupid to make that costume, don’t go out on Halloween unless you’re accompanied by an adult.

  29. allforfunnplay says: Oct 8, 2010 2:58 PM

Houshmandzadeh needs to realize that maybe he just isn’t that good. His good years were back when he was playing for the Bengals with Chad Johnson/Ochocinco and Chris Henry clearing out the coverage for him. Also they had Rudi Johnson softening the coverage with an effective running game too. The Seahawks realized Housh wasn’t good enough to get open on his own or fight coverage for the ball. The Ravens sort of know this and have him designated as a distant #2 WR.

  30. TheSleepness says: Oct 8, 2010 2:59 PM

Boldin is leaps & bounds better than Houshmandzadeh…he really needs to shut up..his team is winning…he signed with the 2010 ravens not the 1999 rams, what did he expect??

  31. chipwade says: Oct 8, 2010 3:02 PM

What an ass. He is getting paid $6 Million this year. Yes, nothing is garaunteed for next year thanks to his release. But quit your bitching. It’s not going to help your chances of getting more money next season. Then again, T.O. kept getting paid.

when Stallworth gets back……. let’s see how many balls come your way and from whom…….

  41. jdmcmil says: Oct 8, 2010 3:27 PM

Houzmadouche – what an ass. Obviously cares more about his balls than the team. When Stallworth gets back, he will be traded/cut. And like many others have said, if he would stop dropping catchable balls his numbers would be right around what he was “promised”. A team can promsie that you will actually catch the ball a-hole.

  43. Whodey08 says: Oct 8, 2010 3:36 PM

Maybe it’s coincidence but you have to wonder.
For years Marvin Lewis talked about getting rid locker room problems
After TJ left there have been no locker room problems. TJ was very popular when here, but the more he talks the more he appears to be a headache.

  44. unclebengi says: Oct 8, 2010 3:47 PM

Why did this idiot sign with a run first team as a third wide receiver then??? He could have gone to Washington or Oakland, caught more balls, and set himself up for a decent payday in the off season. Instead he chose a better team with less opportunity…again, HIS decision. 50 or 60 balls??? Who the eff cares what they tell you…if you catch 50 or 60 how many are Q and Heap catching? He left out Mason and Rice too, they’re also higher options in the pecking order.
T.J., you’re the 5TH receiving option on a run first team. That should have been abundantly clear to you BEFORE you signed the contract…

  45. rarson says: Oct 8, 2010 3:47 PM

He wants to play football, big deal. I wish more players had that attitude.

  46. David says: Oct 8, 2010 3:51 PM

  47. DemocratsAreStupid says: Oct 8, 2010 3:52 PM

Ravens need to cut this guy before he starts making trouble. It shows many players could care less about winning only if their name is on tv.

  48. MrMojoe says: Oct 8, 2010 3:54 PM

As a Ravens fan, this is the last thing this guy should be complaining about. Maybe he’ll get more chances if he CATCHES the balls that are thrown to him. He should just shut up and be happy he’s not in Seattle.
I can see him riding the pine when Stallworth gets back if he doesn’t drop the diva attitude.

ahh there it is, the lone Houshmandzadeh endorsement!

  50. Danwhitmer says: Oct 8, 2010 3:56 PM

I like housh, but there is a reason he is our 3rd reciever. He would have 12 more catches or so if hehad not dropped the ball or if he woul have ran the correct route. Not only would he have more catches but some of the times we have went to him were in big situations and he did not come through. Flacco is the leader of the Offense, if he feels heap, Mason or Boldin are going to come through for him well he is going to get them the ball….. not because he likes them more, or they got big money but because they are reliable.
Housh admited in the Cincy game he had 3 passes that would have been game changing plays that he simply dropped…… funny how 2weeks later your complaining about not getting the ball….
My only advise to Housh is go out and play the game, prove your self worth of those big moments and Flacco will find you. When Flacco first started heap dropped alot of passes and Flacco turned away from him, But Heap worked hard got the butter off his hand and started catching passes for him. Now he is one of Flaccos go to guys…. Its all about the body of work, not in your career but what your current QB sees from you!

I was excited about him as a slot receiver but shut up man. Your a #3 here, you could look at the depth chart and know that before you got here.
Oh and if anyone remembers the game against the Steelers this week, one of the first passes went to TJ and hit him on the numbers and ……..he dropped it.
That doesn’t instill much confidence in Flacco, Cam or anyone else to come back to you.
    Just shut up and play.

I like TJ as a player, but Im starting to see a trend. First, Cincy cut him because they felt like he wasnt performing as well as he used to. Then, Seattle gave him a shot and quickly realized he wasnt what they thought he was. Now Baltimore??

You are the number three receiver on a run happy game that also has Heap that puts you number 4 in the pecking order … unless you start taking the short, tough catches across the middle. Heap has been a monster across the middle never afraid to get lit up when going for the ball.
