Jets cooperating with Favre investigation

The front cover of Saturday’s New York Post says it all, in large capital letters.

“Favre Sext Blitz.”

Inside, the Post devotes several articles to the rapidly-accelerating situation.  One of the items points out that the Jets are cooperating with the NFL’s investigation regarding Favre’s interactions with former Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger.

“We are working closely with the league in their
review of this matter,” Jets spokesman Jesse Derris told the Post.

Perhaps more importantly, the Post reports that the Jets have contact information for two massage therapists whom Favre allegedly propositioned with text messages, and that the Jets will be giving the information to the league.

That’s an important detail because the new evidence creates a potential pattern of behavior, which could make the league more likely to take action under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.

As a practical matter, it’s highly unlikely that the investigation and any disciplinary process would be fully completed before the end of the season.  Still, with Favre previously indicating that 2010 will be his final NFL season, this unexpected entanglement could be the thing that finally gets him to call it quits, in order to avoid the potential embarrassment of a suspension or some other publicly-announced penalty that would apply in 2011.

With the story now occupying a front-and-center position in the media spotlight, it remains to be seen whether other women come forward.

Meanwhile, another Post article includes quotes from Deanna Favre’s autobiography, in which she writes that she knew before they were married but while they were living together with their first child that Favre was involved with other women.

It’s probably not the manner in which Brett had envisioned celebrating his 41st birthday, which arrives tomorrow.

Thank God. Without Favre at the helm the Vikings might have a chance at the division….

I smell a rat dressed in green and white. Why is this all surfacing now, just before the bif Monday night game. Sounds like a smear campaign to throw Brett off his game. Ole Rexy is crafty

That Brett Favre has lived the life. But like always it’ll come back and bite you in the azz sooner or later. For him, later, with more headaches to come. Pity the Vikings fans, things were looking up.

Favre’s legacy is going to unravel in the final season. WOW.
You know, given the incredible rate in which SB winners get in trouble, I am very happy to report that the greatest QB to ever play the game, Dan Marino, has yet to have some sordid charges placed on his good name. He never won a SB, but he is a class act.
Favre = cheating, waffling interception throwing loser

  9. Barius Maximus says: Oct 9, 2010 12:28 PM

Three women seems to have at the very least the beginning of a pattern. I have a feeling that there will be other women come out with similar stories before Monday night’s game. Not a Vikings fan at all, but didn’t want to see Farve go out this way. My prediction is he will not finish this season, he will retire before December and go into seclusion. The tip of the iceburg is now showing and there will be much more under the surface.

Jets cooperating I am sure. After all, they are instigating all of this in an attempt to distract Favre from Monday’s game.
Funny how all of this come out now. Funny indeed.

Are you suggesting that this is a conspiracy to get rid of Favre/prevent him from unretiring a lucky 4th time? Becuase that was his plan. He’s been wearing it on his jersey for years:
How many times does Brett want to retire/unretire?
What jersey number does he wear?

  14. Infidel says: Oct 9, 2010 12:36 PM

This guy started to come unhinged after his father, Irv, passed away. That’s when the self-absorbed Brett took hold. The Favre who had his separate locker room. The Favre who had his own presser mid-week. The vacillating Favre with the annual retirement talk. The Favre who saw a softie in Mike Sherman and walked all over him, skipping mini camps, etc.
The ESPNs of the world only enabled this guy further. It’s laughable how the mainstream media has ignored these allegations. You would have thought they learned their lesson when The National Enquirer exposed John Edwards for the lying fraud he is.
Still you gotta feel bad for Big Irv and Deanna.

I can’t imagine his starting streak will come to an end because of being suspended of a violation of the personal contact policy.
Brett Favre was my favorite Packer almost the whole time he was with Green Bay (Brian Noble was my favorite in the beginning of Favre’s career).
Now with him playing in Minnesota it has dropped him down a lot. He would have been welcomed back into the Packer family as soon as he actually retired, at least for me, a life long Packer fan.
Now with all this, I admit it will be difficult to place him in the same bright light where he once was.

It was the classy Minnesota media that famously followed favre taking a woman back to his hotel room the night before a game. But of course minni fans don’t think this scandal is a big deal. You have to wonder what it’s like being favre’s daughter and the embarrassment she must feel sometimes.

  35. upyrs says: Oct 9, 2010 1:13 PM

Any other player would be dragged across the coals from the get go. Not Old Man Flarva, they will wait untill the season is over and most people have forgotten all about it. It’s called sweeping it under the carpet. The media needs to get their lips off of Flarva’s arse.

  36. Fire Ted says: Oct 9, 2010 1:13 PM

As a practical matter, I think its actually very likely that if he is to be disciplined, it will be this season. Goodell hasn’t been afraid to pull the trigger on conduct suspensions in the past, why would this situation be any different? I seriously doubt the investigation will extend beyond the middle of the season, but then again, I don’t run a website devoted to a minimum of ten Brett Favre threads per day.

I’m not a Favre hater in the sense of his long-standing career, he truly is an iron man (minus his uncanny ability to throw picks at crucial times, often losing the game as a result), but he screwed the Packers and his own legacy with his childish and selfish antics.
It will be interesting to see how fans view him 5 and 10 years from now.

Wonder if GODell gives Favre a 6 game time out with the option of a 2 game reduction after seeking a professional evaluation and counseling for showing a pattern of behavior that damages the image of the NFL shield? Dummy GODell opened a can of worms with Roethlisberger. How could he possibly justify not punishing Favre?
In Favre’s case there’s proof of boorish behavior with text messages, photos of his pecker and voicemails…where Roethlisberger’s punishment was based on he-said she-said and not a shred of evidence of wrong doing….gonna get real interesting!!!

  44. CaptainMarvel says: Oct 9, 2010 1:38 PM

Jets “cooperating”??? They STARTED the whole thing, a few days before the game to try to distract Favre. The Jets are a completely classless organization. It starts at the top, and goes all the way down. Rex Ryan is a foul-mouthed loud-mouthed arrogant jerk, who’s got his team acting the same way. Revis runs-his-mouth constantly, criticizing others; what has he done this year? Cromartie doesn’t even know how many kids he has or their names. And now they have women who work for them trying to smear Favre. And they expect us to believe that the timing is just coincidental? Classless.

  45. Pervy xx says: Oct 9, 2010 1:38 PM

The JETS should be fined – the Vikes were not at fault for anything 2 years ago – IF it takes 2 years to hit the main stream press that’s at least a year and a half too long to be suspending anybody. Too much suspicious timing here – it’s very transparent that someone’s trying to set up Favre. Why is there always a skanky hoe on the fame decline involved with such messes? Duh if you don’t see through it…

Sad, but the potential exists that Favre never does retire on his own. If a suspension for 4 games in 2011 is in place, does Col Klink still lie about the whereabouts of his players and send a plane to Mississippi to pick up his lordship?
Favre’s reputation continues to spiral downward in a tight circle like a turd being flushed down the bowl. The Viking fans (or at least the half with a working brain) have to ask themselves if this distraction is worth having Favre on the team? They are only a QB and a head coach away from contending for a Superbowl, getting over their 0-5 hump in the NFC championship games.
Oh, the glorious celebrations they had planned for this, their 50th anniversary. They were going to dust the shelves of their trophy case and replace the Whizanator with the Lombardi trophy but it looks like a pair of crocs will be what is added. An apt symbol because it represents what the Vikings management has been doing for the last 50 years; playing with themselves.

There is no way that the timing of this coming to the forefront isn’t linked to the fact that the Vikings are playing the Jets Monday Night. There is almost zero chance that the Jets would be so forthcoming if Favre was still playing for them. This is media manipulation at it’s best. If the Jets were really appalled by this occurrence then where have they been the last two years?

Required preface: I’m not a Jets fan.
That being said, you people who blame the Jets for the disclosure need to do your homework. Fill them in, will you, Florio. If there is a sexual harassment claim filed it won’t be by Sterger, but most likely by the massage therapists. The Jets as employer are on the hook even more than Favre the employee. They allowed the “atmosphere” that condoned Favre’s behavior. The therapists complained to the Jets back when it happened and were falsely told that nothing could be done because they were contractors, rather than employees. Nothing could be further from the truth.
By the way, this story broke before the season even started, not just this week.

  57. SJ Apollo says: Oct 9, 2010 2:32 PM

I posted this on a different topic, but I’ll repost it here because I continue to see the “don’t you think it’s funny that this doesn’t come out until the Vikings play the Jets” like it was some vast conspiracy all along.
Do you really think that in 2008, the Jets management said, “Alright, here’s the plan. Green Bay’s looking to dump Favre. They’re sick of his drama and that kid Rodgers is ready to go. Word is, Favre wants to play for the Vikings and the Packers don’t want that because they think he’s better that Jackson. We’re going to trade a third round pick for Favre. Now Mike, we’re going to need to hire a sideline personality. Can you find that FSU girl that Musberger said was good for enrollment?
Jared, I need you to set up a phony MySpace account and act like you’re Favre and start sending the Cow Girl some messages. I’m also going to need you to get a cell phone with a Mississippi area code. Then I need you to find somebody who can do a top-notch Favre impression and leave her some voicemails asking for her ‘company.’ When she refuses, send some penis pictures. Oh, we also need some of our contracted massage therapists to make similar accusations against Favre saying he sent them some inappropriate text messages. See if you can get the married one to go along with it.
Alright now here’s where it gets tricky and Mangini, you’re going to need to take one for the team and get fired after this season. We’re going to mess up Favre’s bicep tendon and cut him. Since they’ve been tampering with him all summer, we know Favre will go to the Vikings. In two years, the AFC East matches up with the NFC North meaning we’ll have one game against the Vikings. We’re going to sit on this story until the summer right before that season and see if it affects Favre’s decision to play, but we’ll only tease the public with the rumors of the story. If he comes back, we’ll release the pictures, the voicemails, and the massage therapist accusations in the days leading up to the game. Favre will be so distracted that we’re bound to win this game. It’s the perfect plan. Now, how will we mess with our opponents in the other 15 games?”
C’mon Viking fans, do you really think this happened?

Hopefully we will no longer have to be asked to buy in to the all-american family man image the NFL and advertisers promote for him.

  76. Richm2257 says: Oct 9, 2010 3:40 PM

Clearly, all you morons who think the Jets are behind this and the timing is intentional, have never read the original Deadspin story two months ago.
The Jets had nothing to do with this story, then, or now. This is coming from a Patriots fan.
A Deadspin writer was friends with Jenn Stenger, and she told him about the texts, and showed him the photos. She explicity wouldn’t give him an interview or copies of the evidence. The douchebag decided to run a story without her cooperation, and without the hard evidence that he had himself seen. The Jets had nothing to do with this.
The national media rightfully wouldn’t pick up a story that couldn’t produce evidence. Deadspin has now obtained the evidence, one way or another, and is now publishing it. The national media has no choice now but to give this story exposure (excuse the pun). The Jets had nothing to do with this.
Is this so hard for you conspiracy morons to grasp? Did Deadspin just now get permission to run the evidence/get their hands on it illegally, or did they have it for a while and decide to go public now for the purpose of maximum attention with the Favre game coming up? Wouldn’t surprise me in the least, but still, as much as I hate them, the Jets had nothing to do with it.
Now the league has no choice but to ask the Jets for access to the information that both Stenger and the massage therapist are claiming. The Jets aren’t throwing Favre under the bus, they have no choice but to comply. Hell, if any of this is true, they run the risk of several huge lawsuits for providing an environment for sexual harrassment! And all you morons are again blaming the women (even YOU, Deb, the Defender of Deviant Quarterbacks!). Did they all wear DTF buttons too?
Favre’s behavior – if true – is disgusting and intolerable, I don’t care if he was the greatest quarterback the world has ever known (he isn’t), it’s unacceptable and intolerable. The man is a pig, no matter how many Super Bowls he’s won. And just like the defenders of Roethlisberger, too many of you toothless yahoos think that a winning quarterback can do no wrong.
Unlike Roethlisberger, the evidence is there for all to see (you don’t honestly believe that isn’t Favre’s voice, do you???). If those pics aren’t him, all he has to do is drop trow for a quick comparison, and the issue is over. Think he’s gonna go along with that? What does it tell you if he won’t?!!
Sending text messages, leaving voice messages, and cell phone pics …..I always though Favre’s country hick, dumb-as-a-stump persona was an act….. who knew he was really THAT stupid?
With these latest accusatiuons from the massage therapist, Jenn Stenger suddenly looks a whle lot more credible, dosn’t she?

Belechick, no a Patriots fan, no wait. I know it was Bush and Dick Cheney and his Haliburton Hurricane machine who started this. The rats stole the stawberries too. Surronded by ememies and ghosts of the past. Pity the Jets, they would never think of doing something so low. You would think a bunch of rats like those front office people would allow such behavior? Sounds like they tried to set ole’ Don Juan up with the girl from the sound of it.

I think it’s the the NFL’s best interest for the story to go away.
Not to protect Favre, but to protect the league.
Why did the Jets have a glorified stripper as a sideline reporter? Because they knew she was the same thing as a high profile groupie. Funny how she had “contactor” status and was not an employee subject to non-fraternization clauses that cheerleaders are. They want these attractive semi-celebrities hooking up with the players because it’s one more thing to attract players to your organization. If all things are equal, do you think a free agent would rather to a team where it is know that many “employees” are actually hot young models known to be avaiable to players?
How many Jets players made advances to her? A lot more than Brett Favre, and some I’m sure have been even more bold in their advances. just look at the atmosphere when that Spanish report was harassed at a Jets practice earler this year. There is a culture are football lockerooms that women are there for fsexual interests.
And organizations like the Jets are encouraging it. So if the NFL digs deep into Favre’s actions, they will find a trail of many players doing similar things.
Yes, Favre is old, he’s married, and his wife is a cancer survivor. Yes he should be viewed different for thios ledd behavior compared to a single 23 year old rookie.
But ithere’s no way they will make a an example out of Favre. Especially when they would be penalizing a team (the Vikings) who were not involved in this situation, while not penalyzing the team who enabled it (the Jets).
Look for a repremand of Favre after the season, a fine of the Jets organization, and a new emphasis going forward that such behavior will not be tolerated.

    @Richm2257 …
I don’t defend deviant quarterbacks, but I do defend innocent men. What a woman wears is irrelevant. But when she tells a man shes “Down to F***,” that has a bearing on a rape accusation. When her medical exam shows they did not have intercourse, that has a bearing on a rape accusation. When a woman has sex and texts her friends that she can’t wait to see him again, that that has a bearing on a rape accusation.
I don’t blame rape victims. I’m blaming LIARS who make false accusations that undermine the cases of real rape victims.
We don’t know anything about the veracity of the Favre accusations. We know no one filed a complaint through proper channels. We know Sterger told people she kept the photos “for laughs.” Rape and harassment victims do not keep mementos for laughs. We know no competent attorney would have told the massage therapists that contractors can’t sue for sexual harassment.
And we know you’re once again distorting facts, playing judge and jury, and calling out others like the self-righteous prick you are. But the only real rapist I can think of recently is Danny Villa … and he played for your Patriots.

This must be part of why LeRoy Butler said when everything comes out about Favre, he won’t have a friend in the world.
I wouldn’t say this is bad enough for that, so I’m guessing this is just the tip of the iceberg. Well, the higher the pedestal, the further the fall.

@ Deb “Defender of deviant QBs”:
We don’t know anything about the veracity of the Favre accusations.
    ————————————————-
This has NOTHING to do with Jenn Stenger’s character, and everything in the world to do with Brett Favre’s behavior. You can trash her character all you want, just like you did the Vegas woman, the Down To F–k college co-ed, or any other woman that has the misfortune of coming into contact with a predatory NFL superstar quarterback, like those two message therapists that your’re also questioning the character of. (Three women accuse Brett Favre of the same thing, and once again you’re trashing THEM while defending the perv!). But it comes down to either Brett Favre sent pics of his dick or he didn’t; either he sent those texts or he didn’t; either that’s his voice on the messages or it isn’t.
It ain’t about the “chick”, Deb, it’s about FAVRE. Same thing with that two time loser of a quarterback in Pittsburgh that thinks at best that it’s OK to get a hummer from a drunken underage college coed in a sleazy barroom bathroom. Keep defending these pigs, Deb.
And yeah, Danny Villa was a despicable pig too; a pig is a pig, no matter WHO he played for.

    @Richm2257 …
    And there goes Rich-Distortions-R-Us again.
I didn’t trash Jenn Sterger’s character. I said we don’t know yet whether this is true. Apparently you think an accusation is equal to proof and that saying we have to wait until some evidence is produced is somehow trashing the character of the accuser. That’s infantile. I’d explain how our criminal justice system works but you’re too immature to understand it.
I don’t trash the character of every woman who comes into contact with and NFL icon. Unlike the rest of you, I’m well-versed in NFL history and know these guys aren’t choirboys and never have been. The only question is whether the women are victims or active participants. Andrea McNulty sent text messages telling friends how much she was looking forward to seeing Roethlisberger again. That means she was an active participant, not a rape victim. She lied about being raped and is trying to extort money from an athlete. Her lie undermines the accusations of real victims. To me that makes her almost as low as a rapist.
The medical exam and witness statements in Georgia show that the woman there lied about being raped, and in fact, she and her friends based their lie on Andrea McNulty’s accusation. Again, she went out that night wearing a pin that said she was “Down to F***” and was drinking herself silly before meeting up with Roethlisberger. The evidence from her medical exam indicates she’d already had sex with someone else earlier that day. This was not some innocent victim. This was a woman on the prowl who lied about a rape.
I have no sympathy for these women. They are not victims. They are not deserving of one iota of sympathy from me. A civil suit is one thing, but the Georgia woman and her sorority sisters deserve to be prosecuted. You don’t give a damn about these women. You HATE the Steelers. And you’ve made me your project. You don’t know anything about me or my character and you routinely distort my posts to serve your own ends. Having that much bitterness over something as trivial as football is pathetic … as are you.

This is a comment about the stupid statement of Mike Florio” How could the NFL suspend Farve
under it’s personel conduct policy for an offense that resulted in no criminal charges or civil claims?” How short of a memory does this dumb f**** have. Goodell did it to Rothlesburger. It just shows how one sided Goodell is if he does not handle all claims the same way. What’s the matter, is the under the table money better from one team over another? Sexting is no less of an infraction against NFL policy than possibly
being behind closed doors like Ben was charged with. The proof is much more positive with Farve’s situation than it was with Bens. Come on be REAL!!!!
