Joe Theismann named president, owner of UFL's Florida Tuskers

The United Football League announced today that former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann is the new president and owner of the Florida Tuskers.

“I am excited about the opportunity and I am excited about the league,” Theismann said in the UFL’s announcement. “This is a venture that I can take from the ground up in a beautiful place in Orlando. I wanted the Orlando-based franchise. I feel like it’s a great place for football fans. This is an opportunity to be a part of a football organization run the way I’d like to see it run.”

The official announcement says that Theismann “purchased ownership in the club” and “will lead the drive to secure additional local ownership in the Tuskers.” There’s no word on how much money Theismann spent or what percentage of the team he owns.

Theismann is now in an interesting position in which he works for the NFL as an NFL Network analyst and also invests in a league that fellow investor Mark Cuban says is “taking on the NFL.”

As we write this, Theismann’s Tuskers are on the field playing the Hartford Colonials in a game broadcast on Versus.

    Shame everyone else is watching:
Ala – SC: SC up at halftime
    Mich – Mich St.
    LSU Florida @ 4:30
Florida St – Miami @ 8. Won’t overlap, but hard to get excited about UFL when college games like this are being played today.
Stop trying to compete with college games for viewership and attendance will improve.

  2. Joe celebrated by getting plastered and chasing Suzie Kolber around the office.

  3. For a minute there I thought it said that the game was “broadcast on Venus”. Probably would get more viewers than its earth broadcast by Versus.

  4. so there’s got to be some sort of conflict of interest thing now RIGHT? I mean he can’t announce for the NFL anymore can he?
Oh pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease let it be so.

  5. I wonder if he is going to change his name to Joe Tuskman now.
    Douche.

Yes, damn that rich bastard who’s 30 times as successful as I’ll ever be.

  6. Memo to the new boss – we Orlando football fans aren’t gonna get excited about this team as long as it’s called “Florida”.

  7. First pick of the draft … Brady Quinn.
    Second … Jason Campbell.
He loves them both because he’s biased for those two suckers.

  8. What an absolute douche this guy is. Only TV personality worse is that big bag of wind Dan Dierdorf!
