I hate to state the obvious, but enforcing all sexting and provocative phone calls is going to end the game well before anyone can stage a lockout. I’d wager at least 20% of the league players do the same, probably more, and that doesn’t count team leadership. 20% = almost 1700 players, and can you imagine pursuing all those cases? If the woman doesn’t have a problem with it, the league should just stay out. I can’t believe there aren’t league officials looking out of a gigantic glass house here.

finally, what are the chances Roger Goodell will move swiftly to end Brett Favre’s starting streak?
If Favre gets hurt and breaks the streak, it’s possible.
But when did the NFL start suspending people for being creeps and womanizers?
And I’m sure there are those here who think Favre should be suspended but also support Charles Haley for the hall of fame when he used to sit in team meetings and masturbate telling the other players he was imagining their wives. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Here’s another reason it will move quickly: No suspension is coming.
Like anybody watching this closely Roger knows this is a publicity stunt by the sex industry worker the jets hired to be a “hostess/reporter” who has a nude magazine appearance coming out soon. Her problem was that without the pictures nobody believed the story. So they made up the pictures.
Where are the crocs? Where is the watch?
How can you be so stupid as to leave out details in the fake that were in the original story?

There is a very, very good reason for NFL to fast track this matter and take it as seriously as possible. Say what you will about Jen Sterger, but she was an employee of the New York Jets at the time of this incident, not an outside reporter. While it does not appear that Sterger intends on pursuing any legal actions, how the NFL handles this is important in the future should it face legal claims of sexual harassment or hostile work environment from other employees. In order to limit its potential liability, the league needs to show it takes these kind of matters seriously.

There is nothing at all improper about them.
I just want everybody to read the original article and the comments about how the pictures she had seen had a watch that was identifiable as it was a gift he wore in a press conference and he was wearing crocs.
These pictures and Myspace frames are a very very bad fake. In the days of the internet people are very keen to this.

I see what you’re getting at, Florio, but I think this actually is a special case, as the NFL may not be able to discipline Favre before he retires if they proceed normally. That would send a bad message to all the many pervs they have in their employ.
I think what this says is that if you try to take advantage of the NFL’s reputation by using it to exploit young women, you’re going to be punished and embarrassed by the league, no matter who you are, as you should be. They need to make an example of him for the sake of their own image, and they can’t do anything if he’s out of the league next year.
I think it’s the perfect way for the NFL to send a very strong message about sexual harrasment… by prematurely ending the career of one of its so-called greatest players–for doing something that someone truly great never would.

I find it extremely hard to believe that Favre would be suspended over this. As mentioned, even if they did “suspend” him, I would imagine an appeal would be allowed to drag out until after the season. At which time Brett Favre would actually retire once and for all.

Considering it is relating to the Personal Conduct Policy and Favre the leagues security will have to be very careful and would have to present a strong case.
If that is done it is hard to imagine any appeal holding much merit since the Personal Conduct Policy has a pretty broad definition.
After the way Ben was handled under the PCP if Favre gets a free pass until after the season ends and decides to retire Goodell would look like a hypocrite.
If Favre ends the season under suspension I thing the good ol’boy in him would want to return for another season just because. He didn’t want to ride off into the sunset after throwing a game losing int, this will bring him back. Unless the league decides to impose it after the season ends and lets him ride off without facing any real punishment.

Favre has every reason to go for a negotiated settlement here.
Expect him to accept a suspension or big fine that mitigates the damage to his legacy and his civil liability.
The longer the inveestigation goes on, the broader the scope will become.

Important point was made in this article. No decision made until November, appeal process not taking place until January. Season is over. Brett retires-no penalty. A convenient way for all parties to carry on, business as usual.
