Packers dealt another blow, Aaron Rodgers suffers concussion

We noted earlier that in addition to losing a game to the Redskins, the Green Bay Packers lost four players to injuries today.

And we didn’t even know the biggest injury of all.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion in the Packers’ loss.

The Packers haven’t offered much information about what happened, but Rodgers appeared to have been hurt on his last pass of the game, which was intercepted. Rodgers will need to be medically cleared before he can practice this week, or play next Sunday against the Dolphins.

Excuses, excuses. The concussion happened AFTER he threw the ball.

Put those 6-guns back in the holster A-Rod! You’re done for a while. That’s OK, you’re highly overrated anyway and you STILL haven’t won a game for your team at crunch time. GO BEARS.

troy aikman mentioned way earlier in the game that rodgers looked woozy after a play. maybe rodgers played most of the game partially concussed

  6. Seabass417 says: Oct 10, 2010 6:35 PM

Frustrating to see a vicious helmet to helmet hit on Rodgers go uncalled, especially when in the Bears game Zombo’s hit on Cutler got a flag that called back an INT.

Reminiscent of the Cardinals game last year in the playoffs. Only here it was an uncalled helmet to helmet. There it was an uncalled facemask.

Wow! And this on the heels of the Vikings obtaining Randy Moss, but Bert Far-vuh under investigation for sexual harrassment.
Both teams in some disarray. Could this be the time the Lions make their move? Faint roars growing a little stronger in Detroit…..

Packers haven’t beat any contenders, lost to two playoff teams due to poor performance.
    Bears 4-1
    Pack 3-2
    Vikings 1-3
    Lions 1-4
Was hoping the Bears might face a little better competition this year, but cant complain about an easy fight to be division champs.

  12. Infidel says: Oct 10, 2010 6:43 PM

One of the most overlooked moves made by Green Bay came after the 2007 title game season when outgoing President Bob Harlan extended both GM Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy five (!) years …
Harlan gets a lot of credit for the stadium expansion / renovation project, but his last executive decision may set the Packers back a decade or more.
Green Bay is not New York or Chicago or Dan Snyder. Hard to imagine their BOD and Mark Murphy buying out these two “no-account” guys.
Which means Packers fans can look forward to two more years of underachieving, uninspired, undisciplined football.
    Bill Cowher? Not now.

Well the good news is……our second stringers took the Redskins to overtime in Washington.
Who am I kidding….there is no good news in Sconnie today…

  20. Stahi Columbia says: Oct 10, 2010 6:54 PM

They didn’t call it because they felt bad for the two uncalled blatant defensive pass interferences earlier in the game on the Packers DBs.
The last two (Defensive Holding/DPI) were so blatant they couldn’t not call them, especially the one on Charles Woodson that he got steamed over.

  21. Gautam says: Oct 10, 2010 6:55 PM

Aikman or Buck mentioned that Rodgers looked woozy after a particular play. I might be wrong about the exact play but I think it was around the time that they called a timeout.

  22. MrHumble says: Oct 10, 2010 6:56 PM

Don’t even start with the excuses of injuries packer fans. ARod concussed, BF bad ankle all year; finley out, Shianco missed almost 2 gms due to hammy; vikings center sullivan missed all of preseason and first couple gms of year, chris cook and ced griffin both starting cb’s have been out all year, sidney rice out thus far and he is at least as valuable as ryan grant……and the vikings have played a much more difficult schedule thus far……as you told vikings fans, injuries are part of the game and you need depth, you also told vikings fans to quit complaining about the officiating in the nfc championship game but yet you’re still cryin about the missed facemask against cards and now today a “phantom helmet to helmet”….it’s hell when what goes around comes around isn’t it, LOL (it’s also a big difference when the officials are finally , after 4 yrs, calling woodson for some of the holding that he always does.

  23. Gautam says: Oct 10, 2010 6:57 PM

It takes more then one good season to be a great QB in the NFL yet he puts himself up on a high pedestal and runs around like he is one of the all time greats of the game.
Far from it Pussy Rodgers. Now your brain will match your cross eyes you dumb ass.

  26. MrHumble says: Oct 10, 2010 7:02 PM

Green Bay Press Gazette: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who handed down Roethlisberger’s suspension, should be relieved that he didn’t have to deal with Randall Brent Woodfield.
He was a wide receiver at Portland State University and the Green Bay Packers’ 17th-round draft choice in 1974.
He also went on to be a serial killer.
By any measure, he ranks as the Packers’ worst draft choice of all time.
Now 59, Woodfield is serving a life sentence without parole at the Oregon State Penitentiary for a brutal crime spree that got him labeled as the “I-5 Killer.” Prosecutors say he may have killed as many as 18 people, mostly females, in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
    —————————————
Does anyone know if Woodfield made it into the Packers HOF like Chmura did????

General comment: I am sorry to hear this about Aaron Rodgers. As much as I like to mock him and laugh when he’s sacked, I never hope for an injury.
I wouldn’t want this to happen to my QB so I don’t wish it upon anyone else’s.

excellent point. the reason for this is pcker fans foolishly predicting that favre, who hasn’t missed a game in 19 years, would get injured; naturally their punishment by god and karma is all their injuries, including aaron’s today. it’s SOOO predictable that after all the talk about brett getting hurt, he’s the only starting nfcn qb as of today.

  40. Yerger22 says: Oct 10, 2010 7:24 PM

Packers are the most injured team in the NFL and have not played well against bad teams. However, they could still be undefeated if not for awful calls by officials in both games. Unfortunately Rodgers has not entered the protected QB group with Brady, Cutler, Manning, Roethlisberger and others.

  44. DavidGQ says: Oct 10, 2010 7:26 PM

Why so many cry babies in Greenbay? How many holdings on Greenbay that weren’t called? So please, stop being a poor loser.
As for your second string players, Redskins have practice squad players on the field today(Bank and Armstrong) and your team can’t even stop them. Get over it. Your team is way over rated. Barely beat Lions last week. Who have you beat so far this year? Eagles, Bills, and Lions? Let see how you play with better teams the rest of the season.

  45. Sparrowhawk says: Oct 10, 2010 7:27 PM

Packers ran the ball for 157 yards today and the Redskins ran the ball for 51 yards. I think we can get off the panic trade for a RB for another week.
Good question as to why helmet contact is allowed to some QBs and not others. Maybe an NFL system of fining (and making public) the missed helmet to helmet calls by officials would help to clear up this problem.

  46. PackersHome says: Oct 10, 2010 7:29 PM

With all of the injuries and the crappy play… we’ll be fortunate to land in the playoffs. We left a W on the field today. Many opportunities to come away with the win, but we just don’t seem to have the heart of a champion.

miami (without rodgers and about 10 more starters): L
    vikes (be serious) L
at jets (could maim all your remaining starters): L
cowboys (you’re playing good teams and qb’s now): L
    at vikes (4 in a row): L
at falcons (these teams are just too good for you): L
49ers (just to be nice): W
at lions (in your hearts you know it’s true): L
at new england (another good team, good qb): L
giants (pckers have nothing to play for): L
    bears (what the hell): W
as long as chubs and vampira remain in charge, the rest of the division remains safe.

Bad sign… only one thing will help, and that would be a viking loss tomorrow, to shut all these Viking Trolls pie holes. I just don’t understand what you get jumping all over the Pack… Don’t you have anything better to do on this fine day. When PFT posts a Viking article (Moss trade, BF Pee pee pics, etc ) I rarely see Pack fans on there, jumping all over it, but whatever…. when you are deathly afraid of your team packing up and moving to LA anyday, I guess you feel you need to get your shots in now, before it doesn’t matter anymore. Tonight I go to bed bummed out, let’s hope the JETS give these haters a taste of their own medicine.

Aaron Rodgers threw an interception in overtime and the Redskins converted the turnover into a field goal as the Packers limped off the field following a 16-13 loss Sunday. The Packers reported that Rodgers suffered a concussion late in the game. In addition, Jermichael Finley, Clay Matthews, Ryan Pickett, and Donald Lee all left with injuries and did not return….. that sucks 11 starters hurt, Injury bug taking a big bite out of packers season.

  67. WetHog says: Oct 10, 2010 8:17 PM

As a Skins fan that was at the game, thanks to the Packers for screwing up the momentum they had at the end of the 1st quarter. Sure looked like they were poised to run the Skins out of the stadium.
But thats why games are 60 minutes long, and not 15. For you Packers fans out there, suck it up. You can say all you want about players being hurt, and no calls on helmut to helmut hits, but the Skins took it to the Pack from the 2nd quarter on and deserved to win.
Great teams keep the foot on the gas pedal from the opening whistle until the final gun sounds. The Pack couldn’t do that and the Skins pounded the Pack O until they said “No MAS!!!”.

First, wasn’t that “Helmet to Helmet” hit the play that Rodgers threw an interception on? So, how would that have been game changing? They wouldn’t have taken away the interception. And at that point, your defense wasn’t stopping anyone. Plus, just to point out, Jarmon pulled up, had his hands in the air, and his momentum carried him into Rodgers. If you call that spearing his helmet into him, you don’t know football. Quit whining and accept the fact that your team got beat by a team, that as Florio would say, you were better than, man for man.

the pckers gave up over 350 yards passing again today, they’ve lost 2 of their last 3 games and the only one that they won, to the lions, they were outgained by a crazy amount.
the only question is… do they remain cursed like they have been every year since their 13-3 season with favre… or is it the gross incompetence of the only g.m. in the league that thinks he can build a team with one hand tied behind his back, using only one of the three legal methods of acquiring players?? or is it the bad playcalling of chubs mcfatboy?

  75. Majik Bullet says: Oct 10, 2010 8:34 PM

First , let me say it’s definitely too bad Rodgers is hurt, don’t wish it on any player, and hope it’s minor and he can get back on the field next week, if it’s safe to do so. And now…
It’s ironic that the team who won last week against the Lions because of a blatant P.I. on Woodson that went uncalled on the Lions’ last possession is complaining about a non call costing them the game. A non call that both Aikman and Buck said was a clean play, that the defender did a good job of holding up and not delivering a late hit.
The funniest part of that Rodgers choke job was after the pick when the guy is running it back, Rodgers sits on the ground complaining to the ref, rather than getting up and trying to stop the guy he just tossed the game winner to.

Anyone poking at Aaron Rodgers, saying he is being soft, being concussed has nothing to do with pain tolerance. It is a brain bruise, nothing to be taken lightly.
All the Bears fans, saying Rodgers can’t win a big game, you are right. He hasnt yet. Better that than a QB that hasnt won since high school, and is a smug whiner, calling for flags before the ref even has a chance to reach for it. But hey, crown average team champs in October, see how it works out for ya.
We STILL have Vikings fans talking, sitting at a sterling 1-2 and visiting the Jets tomorrow night, and not to mention, a QB with a case of “elbow tendinitis” which could be attributed to more than one thing, in light of recent revelations.
    It’s Week 5 folks.

With the scrubs in, they still had 5 sacks…they’re playing #7,8,9 secondary guys…yet they lost the game on a missed field goal. They lose to the Bears because of 18 penalties…not what the Bears did to them. Remember, they were 4-4 at mid-point last year and were also playing bad giving up a ton of sacks. If they fix stupidity and get guys back and actually play the way they should…they’ll be fine.

Not that im a vikings fan, but if I were you i would be quite nervous seeing all that explosion on offense over there in Minnesota. Favre also usually plays amazingly well under pressure. Dad passed and look what he did. The packers are still on the soft part of their schedule where Minnesota is going through the rough part of theis schedule. Its gonna be a long second half for packer fans. Its about time woodson gets called for Pass Interference, he gets way to many breaks. Clay Matthews battered, Nick Barnett out for the year, Aj the bust hawk playing like crud. Secondary banged up, and a Offense that cant get in the endzone.

First off, as a Packer fan I can admit that they are not playing well and don’t deserved to be considered Super Bowl contenders. I even agree that to some extent good teams do overcome injuries. But for the case of comparison, I wonder how the Vikings roster would be missing with the same injuries:
Comparisons made based on position, not necessary talent level:
    Brett Favre
Adrian Peterson – and rookie backup
    Shaincoe – and backup
    starting right tackle
    starting left end -Edwards right?
one of the Williams boys (you can pick) suspended for season
    backup DT
E.J. Henderson, Chad Greenway and top backup (not counting another linebacker because Brad Jones is now healthy again for Packers)
    #2, #4, and #5 corner
starting free safety and his backup
top punt/kick return candidate during training camp
Oh, and add to it, Jared Allen has to play with only his right hand because his left one is broken.
That is 19 players either missing time or playing with a significant injury. I understand that the Vikings have had some of those injuries, and some others, but have not had all of them AT THE SAME TIME. I am just curious what Vikings fans HONESTLY think about their chances this season with those injuries. I would love to get an honest, football related answer.

This whole act has gotten old. Every week the Packers come out and play sloppy, undisciplined football. They have played bad football for five weeks now. I, along with many other fans were high on this team coming into the season, but it’s obvious now this is an average team. Injuries are a huge problem, but coach Mc’Manboobs is just as much of a problem. He appears confused, and overmatched. His “potent” offense can’t give the defense a rest, or score points for that matter. I know the loss of Grant, and not acquiring a RB makes it hard on the passing game, but listening to coach say he’s happy with his running game is a joke. Would love for Bill Cowher to come in after this season, but that’s not how TT works.

  109. kahnoodie says: Oct 11, 2010 3:58 AM

Was a pretty clear helmet to helmet on the INT. I don’t think there was any bad intent and was basically incidental, but it’s not supposed to be a judgment call…you hit the QB in the head with your helmet it’s a flag.
I felt the same way on the Cutler hit. Zombo was heading right for Cutler’s shoulder/arm, and at the last second Cutler opens up and throws across his body. So instead of hitting him in the shoulder/armpit his facemask hits Cutler between the numbers and then Cutler’s chin/facemask come down on top of his helmet due to the force of the hit. However the boneheads at the league office fined Zombo, so I suspect Jarmon will get one too.
In the end the lack of a call didn’t matter, Rodgers would have been out at that point and there’s no way Matt Flynn would have done anything…best case would have been lucking out into a tie.

I like how people gloss over how Rodgers has more picks than Favre with none of these picks batted or tipped, jsut all poor throws, while half of Favre’s were bounced off of Vikings chests or knocked straight into the air from someone else’s hand.

I will admit with all of the Packer fans wishing injury to Favre I was hoping Karma would bite their QB and it looks like it has. Truthfully these guys destroy their bodies every week for our enjoyment and I hate to see anyone suffer an injury.
Take a look at Rodgers after the sack late in the 4th qtr. He gets run over and I thought he was hurt then. Will be interesting to hear when they think it happened.
Helmet to helmet hits are usually called when a player is leading with his helmet, or the crown is making the contact, which clearly was not the case on that last hit to Rodgers.
For those of you saying the Bears won only because the Pack had 18 penalties (15 of which I could easily recall and were correct) did it ever occur to you they made the penalty because they couldn’t make the play. And if you can’t make the plays maybe you weren’t better?
ACS2 – who are the 7 players on IR for the Pack? How many are players of significance?
Every team has injuries, that’s why they say they are not an excuse, but I do have to admit the Packs list is growing ridiculously.

Purple Pride you can sit here on the internet all day saying The Bears didn’t deserve that win. Go ahead and make your points, because they don’t matter. You’re not going to change their record.
You can sit on this board and say any team could be 4-0 or 0-4. But they’re not. What should or could have happened won’t matter when it’s time for post season. I’m not saying it’s going to be The Bears, I hope it will though.
On the related topic however, Packers I really do feel bad. Hope Rodgers can come back soon. As much as I hate your team, I don’t like to see any player get hurt.

Some of you guys are just over the top, ridiculously, stoopid!!!!!
Pack fans, stop wieth the H to H BS. The guy obviously tried to pull up and like it or not it appears the home team usually gets the benefit of some calls. Hell,I’ve seen plenty @ Lambeau go in favor of the Pack. Rodgers washurt b4 that play even though McMuffin siad in hispresser that it was definitley that play.
This game should have been salted away in the 1st half just like last weeks. McMuffin is the reason they weren;t. 3 tries to punch it in from the one and you RUN of the–with Rodger’s red zone record)? Why not just take theFG. It’s the 1st half and you have thelead!!!!
Packers were overhyped during the preseason and actually bought into it and new we see the results. They have a FO unwilling to admit mistakes or get help, a HC that can’t adjust or use his players to their talent level, injuries have been decimating (strength & conditioning anyone) and they have no discipline. They are 3-2 & lucky to be there. Miami, Vikes, Jets & Cowboys. Hopefullythey can be at least 5-4 when that is over.
BTW, did I mention that some of you guys are just plain sick–My father suffers from dementia, some you guys are demented.
    Geez

Mike McCarthy is an arrogant jack@$$ and will stick Rodgers out there no matter what his condition with no consideration of his long term health.
I like how people gloss over how Rodgers has more picks than Favre with none of these picks batted or tipped, jsut all poor throws, while half of Favre’s were bounced off of Vikings chests or knocked straight into the air from someone else’s hand.

Hey buddy, check your facts, they both have 6 and the Pack has played one more game and the Pack actually depend on Rodgers for offense, unlike the Vikings who hand the ball to AP because they don’t trust Favre….Miami game ring a bell?
Not a MM fan either, but Clay wanted to come back in Sunday and the coachign staff told him it wasn’t worth the risk….so why will he do any different with A Rod? do you have any facts to back up your point? No? Viking Fan? Shocking!

I don’t know what game the Pucker fans were watching, but there was no helmet to helmet hit on Rodgers’ last pass attempt. I saw the Redskins player’s chest go into Rodgers’ shoulder and the guy fell on to Rodgers, but no helmet to helmet.

The funniest part of that Rodgers choke job was after the pick when the guy is running it back, Rodgers sits on the ground complaining to the ref, rather than getting up and trying to stop the guy he just tossed the game winner to.

Nice “effort” by favre “jogging after” the play as he throws the game losing INT!!! how can you call anyone a hypocrite Majik? I thought you would relax now that you’ve seen his package…

The Redskins have done a complete 360 from last years/decades team. They are an aggressive defense that forces turnovers. The offense can actually pass for more than 300 yards without being down the entire game. Special teams can actually gain good field position. The pass defense and run game still need work, but the Redskins are a serious contender in the NFC. It appears that Dan Synda finally made a good move. As for the Packers, your coach is awful and your defense consists of a bunch of hacks. The Redskins played zone coverage for most of the game, which should be easy to pick apart considering the weapons that Rodgers has at his disposal. Even if Finley played, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. Also, if your running back averages over 10 yards a carry you should probably keep running the ball. The Pack ran it five times in the second half, even though they were winning for almost all of it. Now that is on the coach and the play calling. McCarthy is almost as bad as Childress is. Almost.
    HAIL

What stats are you looking at?? Rodgers has 9 TDs, 6 INTs.
Before last night’s game, when you posted, Favre had 2 TDs, 6 INTs. Now he has 5 TDs, 7 INTs.
1 more INT and 4 less TDs.

Did anyone watch the replay? the defensive player pulled up trying to avoid hitting rodgers, thats why he put his hands in the air. Rodgers practically headbutted him.
    ———-
You, sir, are dumb. His hands went up, but his head went down. He deliberately head-butted Rodgers. But since he did it with his hands in the air, I guess it doesn’t count.

Hi, I’m reality. Nice to meet you. He DID lead with his helmet. Watch the replay. He dips his head just before ramming into Rodgers. Much like Jared Allen has done in the past, coincidentally.

ACS2 – who are the 7 players on IR for the Pack? How many are players of significance?
Every team has injuries, that’s why they say they are not an excuse, but I do have to admit the Packs list is growing ridiculously.
    —————-
    The 7 players on IR:
    - Morgan Burnett
    - Ryan Grant
    - Justin Harrell
    - Will Blackmon
    - Josh Bell
    - Jeff Moturi
    - Jamarko Simmons
Without a doubt there’s some no-names on the list. But there’s also two starters, one rotational d-lineman and a kick returner. Also, Chillar’s banged up and didn’t play, Shields didn’t play and Quinn Johnson didn’t play.
And I didn’t even mention the guys on the PUP list:
    - Atari Bigby
    - Al Harris
    - James Starks
Now we get news that Finley will be out 3-6 weeks, Barnett will miss 6-8 weeks and Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews and Ryan Pickett could all miss a week or more.
I defy you to find a more injured team in the NFL.

  133. ACS2 says: Oct 13, 2010 12:11 PM

I have updates.. In my last post I neglected to mention Donald Lee, who’s supposed to be out a few weeks.
And as of this morning, they’re reporting that Finley’s season may be done and Derrick Martin has been placed on IR.
Still got doubts about the Packers’ injuries?
Full time/situational starters not expected to play against Miami:
    - Al Harris (PUP)
    - Atari Bigby (PUP)
    - Nick Barnett (may be put on IR soon)
    - Brandon Chillar
    - Johnny Jolly (suspension)
    - Mark Tauscher
    - Will Blackmon – returner (IR)
    - Ryan Grant (IR)
    - Jermichael Finley (may be put on IR soon)
    - Donald Lee
    - Clay Matthews
    - Ryan Pickett
    - Aaron Rodgers (probably will play, but officially listed questionable right now)
That’s 13 guys – mostly full time starters, some situational starters like Chillar. I can’t remember a team being hit this hard by injuries this early in the season.
