Source to Peter King on Moss-Brady report: "Someone is lying to CBS"

Earlier today, Charley Casserly of CBS reported that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and former Patriots receiver Randy Moss went toe-to-toe before Moss was traded out of town, and that they had to be separated.

The confrontation also reportedly included a comment from Brady about Moss’ facial hair and a comment from Moss about Brady’s, um, cranial hair.

Peter King of NBC reports, citing two “very highly-placed sources” within the Patriots organization, that the incident did not occur.

As one source told King, “Someone is lying to CBS.”

Casserly and Patriots coach Bill Belichick have a history.  Earlier this year, Casserly reported that Brady played with three broken ribs, and Belichick teed off.

“Who’s been wrong
more than Charley Casserly since he left the Redskins?  His percentage is
like a meteorologist
,” Belichick said.

“He has no
relationship to this team. I’d say less than zero. Based on what? He’s
never at a practice, never at a game.”

We have a feeling that Belichick will have more to say on the subject the next time he meets with the media.

  1. What exactly makes Peter King credible here? He has his tongue buried so deep in the Patriots’ collective arseshole that he could taste what they had for their pregame meal.

  2. Peter King is Belichick’s lackey. He is a Patriot homer. If the Pats ask him to report that the story is not true, then that is what Peter will say.

  3. Whatever. Peter King might as well be a PR guy for the Patriots in his spare time.
If somebody is going to call out Casserly for being bias against New England, than somebody should call out Peter King for being a major homer regarding New England.
    Call it both ways.

  4. Not sure what to believe anymore. However, if there is this much drama about a wide out after he leaves, I can’t imagine how much there would be if he’d stayed.
Moss is in Minnesota. Time to move on.

  5. Keep it classy Belicheat. Perhaps you should pay more attention to your fading franchise and less to the media.

  6. Casserly is a freaking clown. He looks like a clown, he talks like a clown and he has no business being on TV.

  7. Considering their history, Brady and Moss should face off in a demolition derby to decide who the better man is.

  8. Best quote by Chris Chase at yahoo
Gentlemen, gentleman; both your follicle-stylings look awful. Brady telling Moss that his hair looks bad is like Creed telling Nickleback that they’re lame. Takes one to know one.

  9. 1. Peter King is far from a Patriots homer. Yes he lives in close proximity. But he just moved there last year. He was also one of the biggest critics of the organization in the wake of the Spygate situation.
    2. Who actually believes that 2 grown, professional athletes, who have 100+ insults far worse than “Your grooming skills are lacking” thrown at them every gameday, would really be so offended by the above alleged insults that they would actually be ready to fight it out?
    3. The NE Coach is dead on about Casserly. The guy is a joke.

  11. We want football stories, we get hair gossip. Sucks to be us right now.
    Sincerely,
    Football fans

  12. It almost seems like Casserly was set up, shown the bait, and then he bit hard. See ya, Charley.
This does make you wonder about people like Casserly pretending to be journalists and trying to break news. Maybe the non-journalists should stick to what they’re supposed to be good at?

  13. King may be correct in this case, but more often than not, he is just as full of bull as the next guy. He’s a pathetic hack, and it’s hilarious that this site, or anyone for that matter, would take anything he says as factual.

  14. Maybe Casserly is right about this & Brady’s ribs, but the control freak in New England doesn’t want the truth to get out about what happens in his locker room, so he & fellow Patroits employees discredit Casserly. Belichick goes off in a press conference & now he has “high level” sources doing his dirty work for him. It’s all about spin & perception!!

  15. I don’t trust any man with a nasty-ass toupee like Casserly.
That includes you too Florio. You need to get that hair helmet neutered.

  16. King is just another Belichick hater that wants to look important and gets frustrated when Bill doesnt give him what he wants.

  17. Peter King is more concerned being friends with stars than reporting news.
    Tom Brady? Hey, somebody’s lying.
Brett Favre? Hey, sexual harassment in the workplace doesn’t apply when you are a scruffy gunslinger who texts Pete back on occassion.
Peter King would have more credibility if he plied his “skills” for the Chinese government.
Tienammen Square? Hey, the brakes on the tanks were faulty …

    1. Yea whatever you say Pats fan. Peter Kings relationship with Belichick dates back to the mid-80s when he was a beat reporter for Newsday and Belichick was Parcells D-coordinator. Big deal he had a problem with spygate, everyone did, he had to be also. Fact of the matter is that all non-Pats fans that read his stuff can see he how much he loves that organization. I would venture to say he has written twice as many articles on them then any other team in the league.
    2. Ha, c’mon man, you’re better then that. Since when have professional athletes been considered grown men. WRs, especially guys like Randy Moss, are known for their petulance, arrogance and pettiness. What sport have you been following?
    3. Maybe Charlie should tell us more about his trips to Starbucks.

I would say the exact same things about Peter King and Mike Florio.
At least Casserly worked in the League for a long time.

  20. Kudos to the handful of commentors who called into question this report when it was relayed this morning. Not only did the entire incident sound absurd and like someone was pinning the tail on the donkey with Casserly, but it does not at all mesh with either of those player’s personalities. I wonder will he or CBS issue an apology for putting out such blatant misinformation?
If anything we’ve learned over the past 13 years is that Randy Moss is the king of passive, aggressive behavior, not “toe to toe” confrontations with teammates. Maybe that would have fit T.O., not Moss. I mean, if he didn’t knock somebody over a trainer’s table when he was in Oakland, this account seems pretty far-fetched.
Also, Brady is as low key as they come and I couldn’t imagine him getting into a teammate’s face, even if the guy came at him first. I would imagine several guys would be there to knock anyone on their back if they even tried, seeing that he’s largely considered the face of that franchise.
The girly back and forth “cut your beard….no, you cut your hair cause you look like a girl” quotes were rich, too. Seemed like a good cue to Charlie that someone was pulling his chain pretty hard at that point, and he might just want to hold that one in his back pocket instead of going on national TV and making afool out of himself.

  21. Why would Casserly make something up like that? If there wasn’t some truth to it, it wouldn’t have even been brought up.

You must not have caught on to this Internet fad until after the 2007 season. King was all over Belichick every single week for not giving him the exclusive “I’m Sorry” story.

  23. It could be as simple as that someone said it tongue-in-cheek to Charley Casserly and Casserley ran with it as if it was true. Pathetic, but possible.
Could Brady and Moss have gotten into an argument that got confrontational? That is also possible but they have a history of being in a mutual admiration society. If it happened, it didn’t happen over talk over each other’s hair.
Does anyone know of a thread that focuses on football?

  24. Belichick would like nothing better than to have someone set up Casserly. Well, Tom “they hate their coach” Jackson would be a very close second.

  25. Florio, stop being such a spaz and reporting everything the kids on the playground mention. Between Moss and Brady and Favre you’re a little much over the last few days

  26. The story will lead back to the Jets as planting it I am betting. After those Jet cheaters had early unauthorized California practices, nothing the sleazy Jets do surprises me anymore.

  27. you know it’s been a long time since they won three super bowls and even now the overblown spy gate fiasco is a thing of the past.
but thank god there is a place like this when we can sit back and laugh at all the fools who make comments about “belicheat” or “spygate” or whatever… you guys really need to get a life..your comments wreak with jealousy..it’s pathetic really.
hey Florio – this ones for you. why don’t we just tell these clowns to “move on or move out” a la our old friend Len at ESPN

  28. I guess Moss and Brady will not be courtious to each other during “The Missing Rings” filming.
    In the Case of NE:
    CHEATING = CHAMPIONSHIPS

  29. Charley Casserly should go find a front-office job for some NFL team and get the heck off the TV screen. He painful to watch and listen to.

  30. Bill Cowher: “We had wristbands to protect against that.”
Dick Vermeil: “It had no impact on their wins.”
Jay Fiedler: “They wouldn’t have known our signals anyways.”
Jimmy Johnson: “Yeah, I did the same thing. No big.”
Herm Edwards: (waves to spygate camera)
Oh, and dpa6? You’re a dumbass. Fading franchise? Look at the NFL. There’s nobody dominant. They are 3-1 and have as good a chance as anybody. Moron.

  31. I hope someone in the Twin Cities asks Moss about it. He wont hold back and answer.
He did have the line of the week at his 1st press conference as a Viking:
“I’ve had my problems here, no doubt. Can you imagine if I was on that boat?”

  32. Wow, somebody lied to the media. What will happen next? Penis texting? Oh wait, that was done 2 years ago and coming to light now for maximum coverage of a MNF game and the release of a magazine that Jenn Sterger does a spread.
If I remeber right she received several photos of player appendages…I think the count was 40.
    She’s a collector.
Wow, remember when this blog was about football?

  33. Peter King is as worthless to the NFL as Florio is, which also explains why they both appear on NBC!
Ever notice that all of Florio’s blogs give credit to FOX, CBS, NFL.com or ESPN? The reason is no one that has an ounce of credibility works at NBC!
