Everyone who says Alex Smith isn't the only problem, is right. The defense is terrible. Fourth in the league against the run, so what. I didn't see the whole game, but I heard they let Kolb run for a first down on third and 18??? Where's the 'Singletary intensity'??
Singletary has been the coach for two years now and I don't see the intensity or attitude everyone thinks a team under him will have. They certainly don't look like Rex Ryan's Jets or Tom Cable's Raiders.
I saw on another wall a comment that Smith seems to play better in a two-minute drill because he doesn't have as much time to think. Maybe they should run the no-huddle offense the rest of the season. But that would mean not running the SCO offense that Singletary loves.
Singletary needs to go.

I gave up on the season after the chiefs game.
We can't catch a break, ever. Alex has the killer instinct to throw interception at the right time to kill any hope for a win, i had his jersey and i burned it last night. I HATE THAT GUY.
I just want us to beat the Raiders, even if we go 1-15, again, at least they admitted to their mistake and dumped their bum qb.

@Jack Acid
I don't agree with you, but I'll say this much. Putting Nate Davis in would assure us a shot at the #1 pick. ;-)
@Marvin49 - And losing more games changes what exactly? We might as well be losing while developing potential talent than losing waiting for the ax to fall on Smith. As far as a high pick, GOOD. We need a shot at a legit QB.

Hey Jack Acid, Nate Davis sucks. I've seen it myself. He's not a better option than Alex is
@daveyguitar - You've seen him play and think he sucks? Cool, thanks for the insight man. You've totally changed my opinion, I don't know what I was thinking.
Sarcasm aside, the difference is KNOWING what he have in Alex and NOT KNOWING in Nate. You can think to know as much as I can, but it doesn't change that from a team standpoint, we don't know.
Mike Johnson is a big Nate advocate and it could mean the difference of him having a chance or not.

Its gonna be a fight for the 1st QB between the 49ers and the Bills.

Well at least there should be 3 pretty good qb's in this draft. As long as they get Mallet or Luck I'm content. I'd probably even settle for Kellen Moore although he faces much weaker opposition...... Much like Alex Smith did. As long as they don't blow it and go for Jake Locker. Knowing York though, he will

The people wanting Alex Smith replaced haven't been watching Alex Smith. He's not the problem. He's not playing great football but he hasn't sucked. And Mike Johnson's offense is much better than Jimmy's was.
The reason he should be replaced with Troy Smith is because the team isn't going anywhere this season and Alex Smith isn't going to be there next season. May as well use this year as a grooming for Troy Smith to see if he has anything or if they need to look for a QB in the offseason.
A reason for sticking with Alex Smith might be to see if he can show something that a team might be willing to trade for. If he can lead the team to a 7-4 record over the last 11 games, then maybe they can get a draft pick for him.
They have to get better OL play, though, and Gore has to stop fumbling the ball.

I really wish the 49ers would give up on this bum. Alex Smith has done nothing to prove he will ever be a good starting qb but here he is still the 49er's quarterback.
a 3-2 record got Shaun Hill benched and eventually traded for ZERO last season. (pretty sure he won a game this weekend) Yet at 0-5, Smith still gets the ball. Seems like he continues to play just good enough to keep his job. Nate Davis is trrrrrible, so he is not an option, not sure why so many people like him. Looks like another lost season for the Niners...maybe they will be forced to let coach Dingleberry and "Check down" Alex Smith go after this. Might be the only way it happens. 0-flippin'5

The problem in SF isn't the QB, it is the play calling. The 49ers run an offense called the Sardine Can Offense(SCO). It is so called because the formations are so tight they fit into a sardine can. Then what they do is run Gore up the middle behind plodding Moran Norris. All the defense has to do is follow Norris and Gore will be there too. Now the QB faces 3rd and long. No QB can be successful n 3rd and long 80% of the time. 'Third and Long Mike' Singletary is the problem.
When Alex fumbled they had to spread the offense and score. Two quick TDs later and it is 27-24. Without Alex's fumble the 49ers would have stayed in the SCO and the would have lost 20-10 instead. At lest the fumble created some excitement for us fans.
Fire 3rd and Long Mike!

San Francisco has major problems beyond Smith.

At least somebody hit the nail on the damn head! Its nice and easy to make smith the scapegoat, but he has certainly had tons upon tons of help. The Biggest problem remains the Head Coach plain & simple. There's no excuse for a team with this much talent to be 0-5

How come nobody is blaming Frank Gore? I love the guy but he is averaging 3.5 ypc this year and had two CRITICAL fumbles last night. A part of Frank's struggles can be linked to the offensive line play, but Alex is getting thrown to the wolves unfairly.
In Alex's two games under new OC Mike Johnson, he has a 64.7 completion percentage, 4 TD, 4 INT 497 yards passing. It should be mentioned that the two games were against two teams that will be in the playoffs this year.
Alex isn't the problem people. Alex's QB rating was 92.8 last night.

Thier are a lot more questions about the niners than just Alex Smith. Our o-line is playing terrible!! Montana couldn't get a pass off with our 20 yr old rt tackle getting his ass beat every pass play and not to mention our lft tackle who still has yet to prove he can stay healthy and be consistant.
The D also let up a stupid amount of 2nd and 3rd and long conversions happen and Shaddy made us look very unathletic. Also whats with our d-line standing at the line of scrimage? Get in your F-ing stance guys!! are they not aware this is a game of leverage?!? get low and get in the backfield.
We will get the first win of the year against the Raiders and our division does suck so anything is possible.
