This franchise is now a complete disgrace, which is really sad. Eddie D. was an exemplary owner and the 9ers were THE team to watch in the NFL. Now, as an organization, they are worse-off than the Cardinals. I repeat: they are worse-off than the Cardinals. And this is saying something given Bill Bidwell’s clueless years of mismanagement.
Last point: what the h*** were the “experts” thinking when they picked this team to win the NFC West? Did they think Rice, Montana, etc. were still playing? Do these “experts” actually WATCH pro football?

I can just see Jed’s stupid comments pissing off the Seahawks, Rams and Cardinals, too. Especially the Seahawks who already whipped the 49ers once. It’ll be hard to win a divisional game when they’re gunning for you in order to shut up your idiot owner.

4-12 is pretty optimistic for this 49er team.
I think Route36West is probably right about the constant coaching changes being damaging to Alex Smith’s chances. Nobody will ever call Singletary an offensive mastermind, so he should just get out of the way and let the OC run the offense. Then maybe, just maybe, the 9ers will win a game or two. THEN maybe Jed can flap his gums.
As a 49er fan who was a kid back during the Joe Montana days, this is the toughest season I’ve ever experienced. I feel bad for all the longtime fans who’ve been through this before. UGH!!!!

He’s delusional, but I wouldn’t be surprised if something like this happens in that horrible NFC West. Alex Smith doesn’t have what it takes to be a playoff caliber let alone Super Bowl caliber QB. Maybe they tank this season and get a top QB next year in the draft like Jake Locker, Andrew Luck, Ryan Mallett, etc. The 49ers have a very good D, OL, WRs, RB, and TE yet Alex Smith somehow can’t win. He’s their problem. Start David Carr!

Dunno if its wise to make any guarantees, but I have to say the Niners are the most talented team ever to be 0-5. There are just so many things that make sense.

If Sing is fired, this may be a job alot of coaches want because SOOO much talent is already there.

Never in the history of the NFL has a team that started 0-5 made the playoffs in any fashion.
An 0-5 team talking about playoffs is laughable. Sure the next 5 games are easier than the previous 5. However, you really believe the 49ers will win the next 5 in a row? I would NEVER make that bet. I say they lose at least 2 of those 5. Which means their record would be around 2-7 heading into the final stretch of the season. Forget it.

They lost to the Eagles who are a bit better than LSU. The 49ers were a chic pick over the preseason because too many people bought into Singletary’s Coughlin like personality. It doesnt matter if he talks tough if he has no idea how to lay out a game plan.
He is a terrible coach but people are scared to criticize. Hey Tiki, lay off Coughlin, at least he won a Superbowl as coach.
Singletary, Schwartz, Kubiak, Lewis and Lovie Smith have done so little, yet have been patted over and over.

I reading all you 49ers fans talking about how horrible Alex Smith is and how you want him gone. I hope you get your wish.
That way the Eagles can pick him up as a back up qb. I would love to see what he would turn into after a couple years of learning from Reid. Smith has all the skills he just never got a fair chance imo. To many different head coaches, offensive corrdinators, qb coaches, and offensive systems. Every other year of this guys career the 49ers switched things up on him. What do you expect from the guy? He never had a chance to settle.
Usually they say if a 1st round qb doesnt pan out it sets the franchise back 5 years. I think in this case it was that franchise that set Alex Smith back. He needs to get on a established team with a strong solid system and qb friendly coach that isnt going to change. I would say he could do that in San Fran if they got the right coaches but it seems like that situation has soured.
Andy Reid is 1 of the all time greatest Qb Guru’s in the league I believe if he got a chance to work with Alex Smith he could turn that kid into a top 10 qb talent.

the York family has ruined this organization. I love Singletary as a human and a football player…. but he’s got no experience at coaching anything other than position, not once was he a co-ordinator… he’s simply being out coached and out schemed every week. This problem has very little to do with Alex Smith or any player for that matter. Sure, you could upgrade the QB position… as well could be said for either Safety position, LB, corner, RG, FB…. it’s not just about Alex Smith. It all starts at the top. May I remind everyone that Trent Dilfer, Doug Williams, Delhomme, Grossman.. just to name a few qb’s have taken their teams to SBs… Dilfer and Williams have rings…. it all starts at the top folks.

Actually the Eagles had alot more backups in there then that.
2nd string qb – Kolb (Vick injury)
2nd string fb – Schmidtt (Weaver out)
5th string wr- Chad Hall 1/2 game (Desean injury)
2nd string lt- Dunlap (Peters injury)
3rd string C- McGlynn (Jackson out, Cole injury)

2nd string dt- Dixon (Bunkley injury)
2nd string de- Tapp 1 (Cole injury)

Not to mention McCoys broken ribs, Todd Herrimans hobbled foot, and having to use 2 rookies, Trevard Lindley and Kurt Coleman, in the defensive backfield to fill gaps in over half of the formations left by injured players . The Eagles have been running a skelton crew. Every week about 3 starters go down and miss the rest of the game on top of the guys who are already injured.
I think it shows just how good the Eagles are that they have a 3-2 record despite all these injuries. Once this team gets healthy and has an opportunity to gel I see them making a long successful run after their bye in week 8 .

IMO, the only question remaining about the NFC West is whether the division winner will be above .500. There’s a whole lot of nasty parity running around right now, and even with that, the best team in the NFC West is looking shaky at best.

The only problem is all those teams as are looking at the 49ers as a game they should win too. Especially the way the 49ers don’t play defense because they can’t stop anyone. Also teams that loose five games in row usually don’t go on winning streaks mostly because 0-5 means that team sucks-I mean would anyone think the Bills or Panthers will go on extended winning streaks? So yorky just put more pressure on team that’s proven it doesn’t deal well with pressure-nice move?

I was thinking the same thing. The only thing worse, is they didn’t run that play 10 to 14 times during the game. He couldn’t be more wide open and it was clear that the Eagles couldn’t cover him with a LB. I doubt their undersized CBs would have fared better. He should gotten at least 12 passes thrown to him that game. He should have had a career day for the ages. What a waste of a game long mismatch.

The 49ers have too many issues right now to be saying anything remotely close to that. In the two minute drill last night, Davis caught a fairly long pass for a first down. He then ran another 5-10 yards down the field and did a stupid chest thumpin “look at me” gorilla dance for an additional 5-10 seconds when he should have gotten up and lined up for the next play. The only reason his antics did not hurt the team was because an Eagles player was hurt and the refs stopped the clock (he was still on the wrong side of the line of scrimmage at that time. That is a lack of discipline and that falls squarely on the shoulders of the HC. They have some good players but thaye are not ready and do not yet understand what it takes to win consistently.

Really? This kid who just graduated high school and was handed the team and is wet behind the ears is flapping his lips about playoffs?
He needs to learn the ropes or give the team back to Eddie. At least he surrounded himself with people who knew what they were doing.
I went through this 31 years ago as a Niner fan and am emberassed that we have come full circle. Smith should have NEVER been made the starter. He is no better then Tim Couch. Put Carr in.

You should know by now that Florio never gives any credit to the Raiders unless he is backed against a wall and forced to. They are on a short list of teams that he holds a bias towards.
In reality, it’s the Raiders that should beat the Niners, but in order to do as much, they need to buck the recent trend of laying a fat turd after a big win. That’s been the norm over the past seven seasons, so lets hope it doesn’t happen this weekend.

Before the season, I picked the 49ers to finish last in the dismal NFC West. And they will. They seem to play well against top opponents, and still lose. They play like crap against bad opponents, and lose. And nothing will change. They will continue to lose. They will lose again to the Seahawks, the Cardinals, the Rams. They have no clue how to win. This is a team with the fundamental attribute of being losers. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a team that can’t blame it on their poor talent or their bad luck. These guys are just really excellent losers. Thanks coach Singletary.

Coach’s philosophy on 1st down is we will put in our extra blocking tight end and line up like we’re going to run the ball so that the defense stacks up in the box, then we’ll run it right up the middle and hit em’ in the mouth and set up a 2nd and 9. We will not deviate until we’re down 2 touchdowns in the second half.

While the Titans went 0-6 and went on to finish 8-8 last year, they also had a 2,000 yard back and a QB that didn’t shoot the team in the foot, ankle, shins and kneecaps ala Alex Smith.
There’s sticking to your guns with a realistic sense of knowing a player can compete, but then there’s simply being too proud to admit that the FO drafted a QB that can’t get this team over the hump.
Cut your losses and hope you can beat out the Bills for (maybe) drafting Andrew Luck.
