Ryan Longwell says Brett Favre cried as he apologized to teammates

Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell, a longtime friend and teammate of Brett Favre’s, says that Favre cried as he told teammates he was sorry for the distraction caused by allegations that he sexually harassed former Jets employee Jenn Sterger.

ESPN’s Michelle Tafoya said on SportsCenter that she talked to Longwell about the meeting.

“Brett Favre actually broke down in tears and was very emotional, saying, ‘I’m sorry to have been a distraction,’” Tafoya said she was told by Longwell.

Although Tafoya said that Longwell wouldn’t give her all the details of the meeting, Longwell said that Favre appealed to his teammates to stick with him.

“I need you guys to carry me tonight,” Favre told the Vikings, as related by Longwell to Tafoya. “I’m ready to go out there and give it my best, but I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Longwell, who played with Favre in Green Bay from 1997 to 2005, told Tafoya that the tearful team meeting was reminiscent of Favre addressing his Packers teammates in December of 2003 after the death of Favre’s father.

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Sterger hasn’t decided whether she will cooperate with the NFL’s investigation into the matter, which Mortensen interprets as very good news for Favre.

“If she doesn’t cooperate,” Mortensen reported, “it’s very unlikely that Favre would be disciplined.”

I think Favre was crying because he realizes he’s doing nothing but trashing his legacy all season long.

Yes…Yes…F@cking YES…..Tears of Favre will inspire all the players, young and older. We all see what the Vikes can do when they back the Iron Man(see Green Bay games) Jets are in for a wake up call…
That skank Sterger isn’t going to cooperate…for she knows the truth. She is hot but I hope she gets crabs….

  9. meridethtohayes says: Oct 11, 2010 6:34 PM

Interesting. But this time, Favre’s father did not die–just Favre’s reputation as a sensible and respectable human being.
Since money talks, he doesn’t have to worry about any “disciplinary action”, other than a possible fine that he could pay with a debit card.

  10. ham1 says: Oct 11, 2010 6:34 PM

Not such strange behavior. Isnt that what Divas do? Or calculated move to the farm as in “adios mfers?”

“Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell, a longtime friend and teammate of Brett Favre’s, says that Favre cried as he told teammates he was sorry for the distraction caused by allegations that he sexually harassed former Jets employee Jenn Sterger.”
Nobody has alleged he sexually harassed Sterger. The only allegation is he sent texts and photos. Big difference.

  13. Boudin says: Oct 11, 2010 6:35 PM

Of course he cried. That’s what he does. I’m sure he’ll cry during the postgame interview, too.

  14. ftomeo says: Oct 11, 2010 6:35 PM

It seems to me that Favre has “essentially” admitted it, so why would Sterger need to cooperate? Why don’t they just ask the guy if he sexts every member of a team’s office that has tits? And if he disagrees with the stories of 3 different women and phone records…
Whatever, the real story is how the media ignored the story for so long.

  18. jrhsd says: Oct 11, 2010 6:36 PM

So you were wrong when you were reporting she was going to cooperate?
Has anybody heard the interview with Sterger’s FSU plastic boob buddy on Playboy Radio? apparently Ms. Sterger’s phone is a treasure trove of dick photos.
Would I be offended if a famous woman sent me pictures of her lady bits? That’s a rhetorical question.

Poor little Lord Farve. What a pathetic excuse for a human being.

  28. Jeremy says: Oct 11, 2010 6:44 PM

Well, I think it’s safe to assume at this point that it was Favre in those pictures and voicemails.
No denial, and now tears? Wonder how much it’s going to cost him to pay Sterger off? Hope she gets 7 figures.

  34. SB42everyyear says: Oct 11, 2010 6:45 PM

Has anyone checked out this Jenn Sterger? She used to attend every Florida State game wearing practically nothing! Posed in Playboy and Maxim. If this woman doesn’t cooperate with the NFL’s investigation, it’s because she was sending nude pictures back to Brett.

  35. Infidel says: Oct 11, 2010 6:46 PM

Comparing the “emotions” of losing one’s father to sending c#&k shots to a woman (other than his wife) is a bit of a reach, Mr. Smith.
Favre is crying because he got caught.
    Again, it’s ALL ABOUT BRETT.
    Narcissist.

Sterger needs to hold Favre up for ransom just like he did with the Pack and this year with the Vikes back in August.
I’m thinking she and her two massage therapists ought to get four game checks worth. Touche’!

  40. VegasChris says: Oct 11, 2010 6:50 PM

  41. tougie says: Oct 11, 2010 6:51 PM

Pathetic. What an embarrassment this guy has become to the teams he has played for, the NFL and most importantly his family. It’s one thing for him to expect his team to rally around him after he battled addictions and his dad passed away, but to ask them to have his back after this comes out…C’mon man!

  42. scizo says: Oct 11, 2010 6:53 PM

People are leaving the most important part of sexual harassment…it needs to be unwanted! Maybe Sterger didn’t mind the content of the text messages or photographs. If she liked it and no one else was offended by it, then its not sexual harassment!!!!!!

  43. Joel_mac5 says: Oct 11, 2010 6:55 PM

How much of Brett’s money would be needed for him to keep his streak going? $500k? $1M?

  53. LuvThatDirtyWatah says: Oct 11, 2010 7:01 PM

Favre has become an unmitigated disaster. He is taking a blowtorch to his legacy much like Roger Clemens has done.
If only they knew when to walk away and let younger men have their time most, if not all, of these disaster could have been avoided.

  54. PackFaninPackLand says: Oct 11, 2010 7:02 PM

The sad part of this is that the Jets were probably who leaked this stuff to DeadSpin.
I can easily see that Sterger came to the Jets to complain about it back in 2008 when he was THEIR quarterback, the Jets said “let’s see some proof”, she showed them, they collected it and then said something like “do you want to pursue any charges against him”, she said no, and it died right there.
BUT, the Jets have all this info they collected from her on hand, and now “magically” it gets leaked the week the Queens play the Jets. Two years later ????
    SHAZAM, what a coincidence !!!!!!!!!!!!
Fact is, Favre has been almost unreal the games after tragedies in his life, or bad news, or big time drama was unhand. Look at the games he’s had after his dad died in 2003, the game after DeAnna said she has breast cancer in 2004, and with him returning to Lambeau to face the Packers last year.
In those 3 games he had 10 TD passes, 0 Int’s, and a QB Rating of about 135, and of course 3 wins.
No ones knows what will happen tonight, but if the Jets thought Favre would crumble under this news, they obviously do not know how he handles tough times.

  62. AJD says: Oct 11, 2010 7:08 PM

Guess that means it’s true. But comparing it to his Dad’s death is a little bit of a stretch. Big Irv wouldn’t approve of his behavior, that is for sure.

  63. Everybody Loves Mike Florio says: Oct 11, 2010 7:09 PM

But he still refuses to apologize for not showing up for training camp. F*ck Favre.

  64. Scooby says: Oct 11, 2010 7:14 PM

What??? Cried during apology? An emotional response like this typically arises when an accusation is true. I was actually thinking this accusation might have been nothing more than a false ploy to get attention by Sterger, or the New York Jets just trying to rattle the Vikings team prior to the big game. But now I view this as entirely possible that Favre really may have done those things.
If the accusations are true, by all means, suspend Favre for one, and ONLY one, game. That way, a single game suspension would kill him more emotionally than multiple game suspension for disrupting his consecutive starts record and would be forever be in his record book as the disgusting reason why his record stopped where it has. It’ll live with him forever, and should be sufficient punishment for his stupid actions.

  65. jusford says: Oct 11, 2010 7:15 PM

Rally the troops any way you can. Fact is his elbow is shot and he probably won’t finish the game and he’ll avoid the new york press conference. Won’t be long until the Viking fans are crying about injuries (pot meet kettle).

  66. PackAttack says: Oct 11, 2010 7:15 PM

I’m a non-cynical fan who until recently was defending this guy, but no more… he is a piece of trash… trying to form a rallying point around a sexual harassment claim vs the death of a parent is pretty disgusting…

  67. Mad Dog says: Oct 11, 2010 7:16 PM

Brett Favre cried? That’s a first, The dude sent pictures of his Oscar Mayer to a women and worse to a woman he didn’t even know. Yeah lets get behind a demented pervert. Lets through all our respect and heartfelt support behind a pervert. And if this woman decides not to assist the investigation how does that all of a sudden make a pervert a non-pervert. And it would take a very mediocre investigator at best to get these facts put together. Favre has been a manipulator of the very gullible media for years and doesn’t have to every say anything to back up his lies. He says em and the media nods their head and goes with it. Favre is a pervert, a sicl pervert at theat, and could a guy sound more stupid and creepy than the voice mails. Minnesota fans will no doubt rally around there pervert but no doubt about this, Favre is a pervert. Pee Wee Herman got in trouble messing with his Oscar Mayer in the privacy of a dark adult theatre. Favre took pictures of his Oscar Mayer and shot the pictures to a woman who did not ask or want them. Holy Cow.

People are leaving the most important part of sexual harassment…it needs to be unwanted! Maybe Sterger didn’t mind the content of the text messages or photographs. If she liked it and no one else was offended by it, then its not sexual harassment!!!!!!
    ====================
And you seem to leaving out the important part of being married with children…….you’re not supposed to send text messages and pictures of your junk to other women begging them to have sex with you. (I’ve heard the texts- he is literally begging her to hook up with him)
Throw in the fact that his wife is a cancer survivor, and you have your basic all around scumbag, sexual harrassement or not.

  105. Bordner says: Oct 11, 2010 8:07 PM

This never would have happened if he had just stayed retired!
He never should have retired in the first place, but once he did, he should have stayed retired!
Sure, we would have missed out on a few great moments like the 6 TD’s in those ugly Jets throwback uni’s and the last-minute TD against the ’49ers, but the man had so many great moments that he really didn’t need those to add to his legacy.
Instead, he comes back, creating incredible (bad incredible, not good incredible) drama in both Green Bay and Minnesota, which caused immeasurable amounts of ill will towards him. And that was before this!
If he had stayed retired, even his biggest haters from the rival teams and those few “look-at-me-I’m-so-cool-because-I’m-putting-down-Brett-Favre” Packer fans would either be silent or now be among his biggest fans. It would have been impossible to get anywhere near Canton the weekend of his induction in 2012.
Instead, we’ve got to deal with this crap.

Favre is innocent of the charges, thats why he asked his team to stick with him. This team is special to him and if he were guilty and knew this will all eventually come out, then he wouldn’t have asked his team to stick with him.

  116. Just JTO says: Oct 11, 2010 8:20 PM

I guess the evidence of the voicemails and texts are not enough. What a joke. Favre will walk on this even though Roethlisberger got suspended because of the word of a drunken pig over the lack of any evidence following a complete investigation by police who wanted him so bad they could taste it.
GODell’s selective justice. I said it before and I’ll say it again, Favre will get a free pass on this embarassment to his family, team and the league.
    Legend my ass!

    God Brett! Everyone knows now

  118. moreBScrap says: Oct 11, 2010 8:23 PM

4 game suspension for Favre coming up, no matter if she cooperates with the investigation or not. The league has already set a standard in dealing with off the field issues like this (guilty or not guilty) so if they don’t stay with the standard, they are favoring Favre or anyone else that goes this way. ( NFL = WWE )

Discretion is the better part of valor. Perhaps she’s deciding whether to be part of the NFL circus that is being setup?

I also don’t get why guys think it’s a good idea to take pictures of their weiners and send them to girls they meet on the job. I’m ugly and poor and anonymous, and I can get laid without doing that.

  127. Floriostoupee says: Oct 11, 2010 9:01 PM

I haven’t listened to the recording that is suppose to be Favre, and I haven’t looked at any pictures (if they are around)
That being said, lets pretend it is Brett’s voice and it is Favre’s johnson in the pics. Where is the proof that it was unwanted and unsolicited? Do we have a message from anyone that is date and time stamped before this supposed voice message or pictures?
Basically, even if he did send pictures, even if it is his voice, from everything so far, it shows nothing more than a problem between Favre and his wife, something the NFL needs to keep their nose out of!

Sexual predator? You have got to be kidding? Dear God, the melodramatic idiots on this Web site should have to confront real life once in a while. Aren’t you a Steelers fan? Ignorance is not something you want to pay forward.
If the many is a cheater and a womanizer, that’s between him and his wife and God. If she has a problem with it, she might want to visit a divorce lawyer instead of a literary agent. The NFL stormtroopers have no business suspending men because of their personal pecadilloes. And most of the men in the league abuse something. If your body went through the equivalent of a low-speed car wreck every week, so would you.

I am not with you other losers, I believe in a person until proven guilty. I believe in Brett Favre all the way. I think the reason all this starter was they wanted Brett to be suspendend for Monday Night’s Game & it didn’t happen. When he didn’t get suspended they decided to go out & hurt him just like the Saints did last year. 2nd half they hardly went after Brett & the one time taken down they did hurt his elbow. He still stay out there and kept playing{YES, we lost but none of his fans are hanging are heads because they lost}with all the rumors hanging over his head Brett Favre is not a loser!!!! A lot of stress in this ball game, to bad someone didn’t trust that the Jets could take on Brett Favre & the MN Vikings instead they starter a bad rumor, if these poor girls were so upset why did it take them 2 yrs to come forward why a few days before the big game. Want to answer that NY Jet fans???? None of you must be VIKING FANS. Favre has done wonders for the Minnesota Vikings and I wonder if any of this would have came out if he wasn’t playing this year for MN Vikings. Probably not just some Fans from NY was scare their team was going to loose and they had to throw attention so why not pick o “THE MAN” from MN.

This chick just got rich…first slighty-less-fat-than-he-used-to-be-but-still-kinda-fat Rex paid her to release her story when she did, and then Brett paid her to STFU. Good couple of weeks for the bank account.
I read somewhere (perhaps here) that Deadspin has admitted themselves that there is no way to know ‘for certain’ that it is Brett Favre in the pictures, particularly given that they arrived via a 3rd party. For all we know, that’s Woody Johnson’s ‘johnson’ in the picture, and someone doing a Favre voice on the tapes.
Even if it -was- him in the pictures (which I’m inclined to believe it was, even if there’s a chance it wasn’t), there’s next to no way to be able to prove that they were totally unsolicited by her, and perhaps even reciprocated with her own naked pictures returned to Favre. If this lady was sitting around one day and her phone vibrated and it was a txt of Brett’s wein, certainly this is an issue….but for all we know she had sent a txt to Brett just moments before that said how much fun she had the night before, and requested the picture.
Provided Favre did send the pictures then there’s no doubt that he’s done wrong his wife, but if the NFL were to suspend each player for individual infidelities we would have an awfully empty field come Sunday, I think.
The league is going to have a hard time coming up with the grounds to suspend Brett on this one – particularly if Sterger doesn’t cooperate.
