First of all Oregon jerseys are sickkk…i love how they use flat black and like gray on white like they did in the national championship game…i hope they do stuff like that with the nfl…adn second of all im pretty sure that nike cant just change the logo as they please

Greedy NFL put so many US employees out of work today with this decision. Indianapolis was HUB of Reebok NFL….shame on NFL. Good luck with Nike and getting stuff made by 12 year olds in China.

Everyone loves throwback jerseys and simpler jersey. So maybe any teams with too modern of jerseys should simplify them. I’m looking at you Lions, Seahawks, and Bills. The Texans did a great job in 2002 choosing simple jerseys, although their alternate Red jerseys are better. I agree that the dramatic changes will be to the fabrics and such. Hopefully fans can order sizes as small as maybe 40 instead of Reebok’s 48. 48 fits super loosely (some would say like a dress) and I want a jersey to be relatively tight fitting. If you look at “game used jerseys” on ebay, smaller guys who are maybe 5-11 and 190 lbs wear a 42 or 44. Why can’t I buy a 44 Reebok?

My biggest complaint about the uniforms is that none of the helmet colors match the jersey colors. I like teams like Dallas who have a 3rd color for their primary helmet color. White and blue are their primary colors, silver on the helmet. I think it looks a hell of a lot better. Oakland is similar in that regard, so is Cleveland. I think that’s the biggest gripe I have. Tennessee’s two tone jerseys’ are probably the best, I like them.

The word “dramatically” doesn’t make me feel good at all. I hope this isn’t opening a Pandora’s box of crazy ugly jerseys like we see in college football. Lots of those look like some 12 year old kid was given the run of the factory and no supervision.
Once again, the NFL appears intent on destroying the goodwill and popularity it enjoys from fans.

Wow! The NFL better be really careful with this kind of “in your face” Nike attitude. Most of those uniforms and Jerseys are generational significant. They define more than a team. But the fans and city too. Phil Knight didn’t define the Bears. George Halas did. He didn’t define the Packers. Curley Lambeau did. Some of those uniforms are religious symbols in their respective markets. Just look how Nike redesigned the Denver Broncos unnies a few years ago. Now when the Broncos all get in their stances, all you see is the big blue Nike Swoosh on the side of the jersey and pants. I would hate to see the NFL become “modernized” that way. Some teams could use a change. Such as the Washington Redskins. Vince Lombardi changed their unnies for the worse so as to imitate the Packers when he came over. But can you imagine Nike screwing around with the Cowboys uniform. Sometimes you don’t need to re-paint Mona Lisa. I like most of the historical teams uniforms just like they are.

Anyone who has ever tried to wear Reebok and has an athletic body type knows that this is the best news ever. Worst fitting athletic apparel ever.
And before all the elderly people jump off a cliff in hysterics, remember that Nike has made NFL unis before. They had the Packers (among others) contract before Reebok became the sole provider. Packers unis still looked pretty much the same, except for a shoulder stripe or two.

Well Phil Knight is the CEO of Nike and he went to Oregon, so that’s why they have something like 17 different uniforms. I don’t think it’s so much they sign off on the uniform changes as it is the big fat check the get from Knight for doing it.

Anything that can be done to help the Bills uniform atrocity would be much appreciated. I wish they would just go back to the throwback unis full time.
As for the actual team on the field however, it’s going to take much more than uniform changes to help that.

Nike was nice enough to give Virginia Tech some ‘advanced’ uniforms before their opener against Boise State. Not only were they ugly, they were black. The Hokies are orange and maroon. They weren’t even wearing their own colors.
It’s funny how many fans you see wearing them though. Somebody made a nice couple bucks off those uniforms, but the Hokies lost their championship hopes.

Why are all the commenters focusing on “style” and “look” changes. They said they are changing to use “the greatest technology” available. That means the material and fit of the jersey. Nike would have to get each team’s permission to change the colors, logos or any other style aspect of a team’s jersey. And, oh by the way, they have to do that with college teams, too. So when everyone complains about Oregon’s jerseys, Oregon had to sign off on the design for the football team to wear them. Nike can’t simply tell them they have to.

Seriously, let’s hope that people who think like this are barred by court order from being within 100 yards of the NFL’s Madison Ave. headquarters.

As a Colts season ticket holder since 1984, when I go to our games I wear a #70 Art (Fatso) Donovan throwback jersey (Baltimore Colts 1950, 53-61, NFL HoF 1968) which looks very similar to today’s Colt’s jersey – and I think that is a very good thing.
I guess it is Nike’s arrogance (and probably the NFL’s front office also) that they think they can “dramatically” change the jerseys – probably hoping that fans will follow like sheep and purchase replacement jerseys from them.
