Niners edge Browns for C.J. Spillman

On Monday, the Chargers cut defensive back C.J. Spillman.

On Tuesday, a pair of teams made a claim for Spillman.  In the end, the 0-5 49ers beat out the 1-4 Browns for Spillman’s contract.

And so Spillman becomes a 49er.  Which means, of course, that he’ll be on a division champion.

This guys should have went to the Bills. A coach’s naming nightmare.

Spillman is one of the primary reasons the Chargers’ special teams unit has been awful. He was released for a pretty good reason.
    Enjoy 49ers!

    @ Jagerbolt.
It says a lot when a team cuts a guy and doesn’t sign anyone to replace him. It sent a message to the rest of the team that if you’re terrible you’ll be cut. Although, he’s a good safety, just don’t have him cover any kicks. He’ll wiff, fall down, or get blocked 3 miles out of the play.

When will they cut AJ Smith for putting together that 2-3 team? As Boomer would say, bumbling, stumbling, WHOOOOP!

Do your homework, Chargers have started out 2-3 or worse the last 4 Division titles.

I thought you reported a few weeks go that waiver claims were based on the previous season’s records?
