These games are rigged. The NFL uses its refs to control football games.
Roger Goodell camped out in New Orleans for over 16 months doing something. He vowed the NFL will do all it can to help New Orleans. Although I didn’t see any food drives I did see a superbowl. What else can the commissioner do? He only has authority over the refs who happen to be the ones controlling the games.
I look for a Kansas City vs Rams superbowl because they are 2 of the most struggling franchises.
Or the eagles since they never been
Or a repeat since Roger Goodell promised
Or the Jets because Goodell knows they owe them one or they will tell everything about spygate that they have been holding back.
Notice the charge against Farve surfaced before Jets game? Randy Moss from Pats? The smoke cleared when Farve threw int.

In missing my point, you actually reenforced it. The point was to not take everything so literally as you did with the driving analogy and the ref did with throwing the flag. Sure, you can nit pick the analogy and take it out of context, but the point is everyone – in these cases the cop and ref – should be able to look at all facets and then make an intelligent decision. Remember, there really is gray in between black and white, and we do a disservice by not seeing it.

And again, the pick into triple coverage, the coverage on the return, and many other problems caused the game to be lost. And again, why is Witten passing balls to other players to spike, why is a fat ass who doesn’t score running around like Gus Frerotte trying to leap and do chestbumps and celebrations… when you aren’t even winning yet? Just shut the f up and win the game. Bitch about your own team’s poor play.

Think about it for a moment—-the NFL is an $8,000,000 a year industry run by old rich guys. They employ barely literate college dropouts that can mostly only do one thing with any kind of skill, play their position. The employees take in around 60% of the 8 billion and spend it on mansions, booze, fast cars and faster women. The only way to keep these guys in line is to enforce a myriad of mind-bending rules that take back some of the 8 billion and cause them to toe an ever skinnier line that forces the players to act like corporate robots.
The owners must wake up every day pondering ways to turn the 60/40 split around and send the players and their union back to the dark ages. If it means fining players for having black tape on their socks instead of white, or dancing on the ground after touchdowns or sending photos of their manhood to woman they are going to do it.

Falling or getting knocked to the ground is an instant flag?
Then perhaps the VP of Officiating could explain why I’ve seen PLENTY of players knocked, thrown, pushed, etc. to the ground during TD celebrations the past decade or so with no flags thrown?
Hell just last year I clearly remember Marion Barber III being shoved to the ground flat on his back by Flozell Adams after Barber scored on a short TD run against the Redskins.
No flag.
Look, all we’re asking for here is some consistency. Is that too much?

The Commish likes to say that the fans don’t like the end zone celebrations. I don’t know what fans he’s interviewing ( probably old insurance salesmen from Ames, Iowa or someplace.); but I’ve always found them amusing. What I do find to be unsportsmanlike is what happens with the FG attaempts. You know, when the guy is about to kick the game winning FG and the other coach calls timeout a split second before the snap, so that the guy usually has to kick the same FG twice? That’s more unsportsmanlike than any dance or choreograhy I’ve ever seen , yet Goodell’s fine with it. Roger, next time you tell people you have the support of the fans, you might actually want to listen to them.

Give me a break. Hockey is not anywhere as exciting as football at any time, and this is coming from a Canadian. Half the teams in the NHL make the “playoffs” and they take almost as long as the entire NFL season. If it is so “exciting”, why does Bettman want to make bigger nets, eliminate the blue line and make icing the puck a legal tactic while continuing to allow allegedly grown men punch each other out WWE-style week after week?
Bottom line? Hockey sucks, and the “Superbowl Shuffle”, Asso Holo, T. “Me First!” O. and the rest of the dimwit showboaters looking for the limelight for catching a freaking ball do absolutely nothing to improve my enjoyment of the NFL experience. I watch football to watch football, not so see some 320 lbs fatass fail miserably at doing his best impression of an olympic gymnast, or some egotistical jagoff flaunt the rules while pulling some stupid stunt that has nothing to do with the game itself.

The main problem with going to the ground is that sooner or later a player will dry hump the end zone as part of a celebration, which of course would result in a congessional hearing to discern the NFL’s responsibility to promote abstinence.

I agree that if the rule is black and white then you have to stick to it. Not only is ‘common sense inconsistent’ but it has too many grey areas.
*However* I see no reason why there has to be a rule there at all? Why on earth are there so many rules covering TD celebrations?

That’s interesting…I watched that game, and as I recall, I thought Columbo was flagged for spiking the ball after Witten handed it to him following his touchdown catch.
Are we talking about the same play? He was flagged on that one for coordinated celebration.

Three points – 1) If this was called on any other player from any other NFC East team, the Cowboys whole staff and their fans would be lecturing us on how the rule “protects the integrity of the game” and how “players need to know the rules”. The hypocrisy coming from these assclowns who pose and dance after every tackle and every play even when they are losing is breathtaking. 2) What’s Dallas’ excuse for the other 99.5% of the game? 3) 1-3 indicates far bigger problems than one call that you feel didn’t go your way.

The Cowboys would’ve lost anyways. Without the penalty, the Titans would have had three extra drives to try and break the tie (assuming you attribute the kickoff return to the penalty).

If the NFL is trying to teach sportsmanship, then why flag normal celebrations and ignore the truly obnoxious stuff? Who cares if a player takes off his stupid helmet?????? Obviously if he throws it into the stands, it should be flagged. But whether he’s joyfully running across the field like Favre in that ancient Super Bowl footage or trying to argue with a ref, what does it matter if he takes off his helmet, for Pete’s sake? And what does it matter if a bunch of guys hug each other and fall to the ground?
I want them to flag disrespectful idiots running around in fake Hall of Fame jackets or making fake marriage proposals to cheerleaders or pulling cell phones out of the goalposts. Guys should be flagged if they spike a ball in an opponent’s face and especially if they stop and walk into the end zone or stop short and just lay the ball on the other side of the goal line or obnoxious showboat things like that.
Actually, in those cases, I’d trade the penalty flag to see a big ol’ defensive end from the opposing team have permission to walk over and lay out the jerk with one good punch to the jaw. Seeing the guy with his jaw wired shut for the next few weeks would be an excellent way to teach kids what can happen when you’re an arrogant jackass.

Why were the celebrating anyway? A tie? These boys celebrate everything. Even Barber is getting a little pathetic flexing and yelling for gaining a couple of yards. There were bigger problems and other bone head penalties in that game.
Stop looking for a pat on the back and just play. There’s enough time to celebrate when the game ends and it’s a win. Idiots.

I hate the Cowboys but that should not have been called. These NFL rules these days man they suck, NFL is not what it use to be i mean you cant even touch a quarterback anymore. The rules they have these days takes all the fun out of the game for us fans, they might as well make the NFL flag football or 2 hand touch.
