Broncos part ways with Andre Brown

In a sign that Knowshon Moreno might be ready to go on Sunday against the Jets, the Broncos have cut running back Andre Brown.

Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times reports that the Broncos view this as a short-term roster move and that they would like to re-sign Brown after the weekend. That assumes, of course, that no other team wants to bring Brown on board. The 2009 fourth-round pick of the Giants could have other suitors.

Wilson doesn’t have a report on the corresponding roster move, but it wouldn’t be surprising to learn that the team will activate safety Kyle McCarthy from the practice squad to help fill in for the injured Brian Dawkins and Darcel McBath.

Moreno has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury, but practiced on both Thursday and Friday this week. Josh McDaniels said Friday that he was “excited” about Moreno’s chances of playing on Sunday and the move to drop Brown, who had two carries on the season, indicates his excitement was well founded.

UPDATE: Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post reports that the Broncos also released offensive lineman D’Anthony Batiste. McCarthy and linebacker Kevin Alexander have both been promoted from the practice squad.
