Sidney Rice is off crutches, on the practice field

Though he’s still likely several weeks away from playing and possibly even longer than that from making a real contribution, Vikings receiver Sidney Rice returned to the practice field on Friday, a week after ditching his crutches.

Per Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Rice “slowly jogged” on Friday, catching balls thrown by receiver Jaymar Johnson, who is on injured reserve. Fowler reports that Rice’s lower-body movements were “minimal.”

Rice underwent surgery to repair an injured hip in August. The move came as a surprise to fans and to the media -- and possibly to the franchise. In his absence, the Vikings offense has struggled, eventually necessitating a trade for Randy Moss.

Once Rice is back, it could become difficult to keep happy the various highly-skilled players who’ll be wanting the ball.
