Bill Parcells' bags have been packed

Eight days ago, Florio posted that Bill Parcells’ departure from the Dolphins could be imminent.

And even though he still holds the title of “consultant,” Parcells has essentially already left.  ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Parcells packed his bags and moved out of the Dolphins offices.  He’s now no longer involved with the day-to-day activities of the team.

Schefter writes, “Miami knew this move was coming, it just didn’t realize it was coming so soon.”

They should have looked closer at Parcells’ resume.

  1. I cant understand why people keep hiring this guy? He won 2 SB’s with the Giants, because of Belichicks defense/great defensive players.
He brought the Pats to the SB, but lost, and ditched the Pats
Then he brought the Jets to the AFCC, but lost
Then he brought the Cowboys to the playoffs, lost in the first round
You get the point, he has failed to reach the same level of success that he reached at his previous place of employment, at each successive job….the game has passed him by

  2. Dear Tuna,
Thanks for making us less worse than 1-15. Maybe King Carl will come in as your replacement so we can get back to where we were.
    Sincerely,
    Frustrated Fin Fans

  3. So everyone on earth except the Dolphins knew this move was coming so soon?
I find it hard to believe they were surprised.

  4. Now here’s a man that could put Mike Singletary in his place. Jed York could benefit from hiring Parcells even if just for an hour.

  5. Can Parcells _PLEASE_ come to Buffalo? He’s already fixed the other three teams in the division.

You answered your own question, and you don’t even know it, nitwit.
You criticize Parcells for falling short of the prize at each of those stops since the Giants, but what you don’t realize is that in each case, he took a hopeless team, and GOT THEM TO THE PLAYOFFS.
He has left every single team he coached in much better shape than he found them.
THAT’S why owners of losing teams throw money at this “loser”, as you basically call him.

  7. Bill is a turn around expert, he comes in and gets the job done. He fills the seats with fans and makes things more competetive. You cannot deny his resume and his turn around success.
San Fran, Buffalo, Jacksonville or Oakland would be great stops for Bill. He could more than likely make San Fran a playoff team immediatly. The others would take 2 years.
Everywhere Bill goes , he leaves better than it was before he came there.

  8. He’s like a stock broker, he buys low and trades out high. However he’s giving up on the team, cause everyone knows realistically they’re not going anywhere!
They’re stuck as an 8-8 team, therefore not being in position to draft elite picks to really be able to improve, and not able to attract top veteran free agents who believe they can win a SB.
Add on top, being stuck w/ a mediocre QB and an aging Ricky… Parcells simply backed this team into a corner.

  9. lgwelsh1…well said. Here in Miami we were bad enough to compare to the Saints back in the day when their fans were wearing the paper bags to the games. I’m glad Bill was here to do his thing.
To those that can only measure success in terms of criticizing ‘only’ having 2 Super Bowls on his resume I can only say I wish I could underachieve in such a way.

  10. the whole idea was to put the right people in place to eventually have the organization running at a high level without him. I have a feeling that ireland has been doing the lion’s share of the work for a long time now and that parcells has simply been a resource that they could go to when needed…and a sometime presence at practices to drop a pearl of wisdom or smart-ass remark on a specific player from time to time. so, they’re just now making official something that has already been for a while now…ireland and sparano carrying the load. this has been a non-story for a long time now and a slowly evolving reality since day one with him that the birds would eventually be able to fly from the nest and fend for themselves.

  11. dude he did a decent job here and actually made us competitive. before him the dolphins were a laughing stock going 1-15. but to just leave mid season is a bit classless in my opinion.

  12. The league is legislated so that horrible teams can improve quickly. In fact, I’ll bet even RexRyanHasn’tSeenHisDinkySince1987 could take a 1-15 team and improve their record the next year. If Parcells really wants a challenge, he’ll go somewhere that the team is average and try to make them great.
    He’d never do that.

Probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever read on PFT
    congratulations

  14. The day Tuna was announced as the new Head Coach of the Patriots I knew we would no longer be the “bottom of the barrel of the AFC East” Teams used to circle the the Pats as a win on their schedule at the start of every season.
Hello the birth of Patriot Nation! No he did not bring home a Super Bowl. Yes he left….But it what he set up that made us the BEST TEAM OF THE DECADE!
It is not always the Super Bowl that marks the teams
success…..It is the” turn around” that makes it possible!
Thank You Tuna for coming to New England

  15. Thanks for one great season Bill.
I guess Buffalo would complete your tour of the AFC East.
Go ahead…make their day….for one season.
Maybe you can take Sparano with you. Think about that one. As for Ireland, we don’t have any experience with him yet.

The NFL should put Parcells in a rotational program, and send him on a tour of the worst teams, so those teams can learn how to operate a NFL franchise. Buffalo would be an excellent start.

  17. Tuna is what he is. A guy who is loyal to $$$, and can take a crap team populated by idiots and make it look decent/good fast. You would think achieving that would be easy, since all you have to do is get rid of the idiots, but apparently it isn’t. So people pay him a lot to do it.

What is so funny about that? Remember, the Patriots, Jets and the Dolphins sat at the bottom of the AFC East for many years, just like Buffalo is doing right now. So, again, what was so funny about SirSprague’s post?

  19. Parcells has been a huge disapointment in Miami given the expectations that we had for him and his group. His drafting has been suspect, his free agent signings have been suspect, the way he has handled the media and fan base has been suspect. He has been cashing in on his reputation from his earlier years, but I guess we have all come to realize that the current HC of New England had alot to do with Parcells early sucess.

  20. Anyone suggesting that parcells should go to the bills isn’t a real bills fan because we effin’ hate him. But then again, a lot of fans these days also forget miami is/was our rival…so maybe it’s best if the team moves, seeing as their fans can’t live up to their reputation anymore.

  21. The only reason the Cowboys are relevant is because of the talent Parcells put there. He’s left every team he’s ever worked with better off.

  22. Giants – Phil Simms (dont give me that Belichick defense stuff; what the hell he do in Cleveland?) – quite frankly he “lucked” into Tom Brady, had Mo Lewis not hit Drew Bledsoe, who knows?
“You get the point, he has failed to reach the same level of success that he reached at his previous place of employment, at each successive job….the game has passed him by”
Pats – Super Bowl berth, but facing wrong QB (Bret t Favre)
Jets – Vinny Testaverde (nuff said) Ray Lucas?
Dallas – didnt have a QB (Quincy Carter, then Drew Bledsoe? – Are you kidding…discovered Tony Romo from practice squad…perhaps wouldve advanced had he stayed on)
Miami – didnt have a QB, notice his critique of Henne as he departed

  23. I would love to see the tuna go to the Fox pregame show to replace J Johnson (who would be heading back to Dallas!). Seriously, would enjoy seeing the tuna on ESPN again. I always thought his commentary was funny as hell…he never holds back on what he wants to say!

  24. He’s set up the Dolphins to be a contender for years to come. It seems strange that he was not quite sold on Henne but he leaves before doing anything to try to change it. I for one believe in Henne, I mean the guy has only started for a little over a complete season and he is 10-8 as a starter.

  25. parcells has only won 1 superbowl. Not sure why everyone keeps saying he’s won 2. He went to superbowl with the pats but they lost.

  26. I agree with the comments by ‘pramis123’. I expected more than going back to 8-8 and 9-7 mediocrity when Parcells came on board to “right the ship”. We’re back to being just good enough to not get a high draft pick and a franchise quarterback.

  27. Parcells is too young to be hired into the Bills front office. He won’t be eligible for 6 more years.

  28. I agree, the guy has left every club better off. It would be nice to see him finish the job. I agree with the guy who said buy low and sell high.
His exit from New England was a distraction for the Pats SB XXXI.
Remember the quote” if they want you to cook, they should let you buy the groceries”?
Bill, Terry Glenn over Tony Brackens was a better decision.

  29. Time to rebuild in Miami…again.
If they could understand about “re-loading” and not “overhauling”…

Thanks clown. He won two Super Bowls with the Giants.
    Super Bowl XXI over Denver
    Super Bowl XXV over Buffalo
When you come on a site to correct everybody, make sure your info is correct.

  31. Yeah during his tenure his last full year here we went 7-9.
Thanks Parcells, no one else could have done that in the National Football League. I also want to thank you for bringing in your retreads like Bobby Carpenter. Thanks for taking us to the playoffs last year (sarcasm), and you don’t like Chad Henne but you wanted Pat White? Right.
Hey maybe Bill could go to Buffalo and take them to 7-9 too! Then they could get a real coach/GM after that and go to the playoffs

Not sure why people with no clue what they’re talking about choose to post on this site. He won two super bowls win the Giants.
