More details are coming in about former NFL linebacker Junior Seau’s arrest and subsequent car crash this morning, as Seau is facing felony charges for the domestic violence incident but was not seriously hurt in the crash.
According to 10 News in San Diego, Oceanside police arrested Seau on a charge of felony spousal assault with injury. Seau was arrested around midnight, and the victim is described as his live-in girlfriend.
After he was released from custody, Seau drove his Cadillac Escalade off a cliff in Carlsbad. Sports by Brooks has a photo of Seau’s Escalade being towed from the cliff. Seau was pulled out of the vehicle with only cuts and bruises and taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Police have not disclosed whether they believe Seau’s crash was accidental or intentional.
I’ll repeat what I posted in the prior update – Seau’s ex also claimed domestic abuse-physical prior to their separation. I do not know if it was a ploy during their divorce or not. Meaning- proved or unproved. But I am certain this isn’t a one-time only accusation. The prior was during his last year w San Deigo, I believe. Perhaps more will be added by the press when they do their digging.
Let’s see if the “Favre haters” go after this POS the same way they went after Favre. At least what Favre may have done was between two consenting adults.
Wow. I hope the Rubes on here have taste in their comments. Some idiots are going to get on here and write hateful comments…
All I can say is I hope he is ok mentally, and he finds the help he needs to get through this tough time in life. He was a great player that was praised by all for being an upstanding guy. I hope he finds his way back to the straight and narrow!
Sad. What a terrible situation for everyone involved.
Well there’s two 20-year vets who have thrown their reputation out of the window… Someone grab John Kasay’s keys and cell phone before he does anything crazy.
purpleporter..
While I in no way support Seau IF indeed true…to compare him to Farve is absurd.
ALL NFL fans have been inundated w/Farves drama over the last 3 years…Quite frankly, Am very sick of hearing about an insecure QB who’ll do anything to get his ass in the headlines.
One thing you can count on w/Farve though…when the game or season is on the line…he’s going to throw a pick or even a pick 6…and then we’ll read about his…’tendinitis’
“He was pleasant and knowledgeable about football and knew more players and statistics than I did. But it was apparent that he had not experienced the one thing that makes a professional football player–intense and constant fear. … Football players aren’t people, who leave home to try and play football. They are football players, who come home to try and play people.” From the book North Dallas Forty, by former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Peter Gent
We never know what goes on behind closed doors in other people’s lives … and I doubt we’d want the world to know everything about ours. If he drove his truck off a cliff, no matter what the extent of his injuries, obviously he has some serious issues. Another sad situation for all concerned.
Well when they start to really get on your nerves, you kick them OUT, not beat them UP.
It’s been said that if you get embroiled in a highly publicized and detrimental situation stall as long as you can before directly addressing it. Something may come along that grabs everyone’s attention and takes the heat off of you.
If this Seau situaton grows into anything it may allow Favre to at least concentrate on the football games.
For what it’s worth, if any of you reading this happen to have a wife or a girlfriend, all they need to do is tell the police you hit them and you’ll be arrested
Whether there’s any evidence of an assault is irrelevant – the police are supposed to arrest you first and work out the details later
This is deemed in the best interest and safety of the victim – and it is for the best – but it can also create a situation where the accused is the victim if it’s a fabricated report… and it’s tough to get your good reputation back once you’ve been arrested
Seau’s actions of remorse to take his own life don’t suggest this is a fabricated report – but it’s worth remembering that when it comes to DV, the police arrest first and ask questions later.
@purpleporter
Explain to me how this has anything to do with Favre. One is a case if Sexual Harassment in the workplace with a current player. The other is a domestic violence and vehicular accident with a formal player. Not only are the two unlinked but also they aren’t even similar.
What is it about Favre apologists? I’m surprised none of you have found a way to use Andre Johnson’s shove off penalty/non-penalty as a justification for Favre’s retirement/non-retirement. That’s how their thinking seems to go.
If ten years ago you told me that Vikings fans would be coming out in mass to defend Favre’s ridiculous (fill in the blank), I would have laughed myself into a coma. Amazing how this game (and its fans) can change so fast in such a short time.
The Peepshow
Junior is probably not handling the end of his career as a player very well. Some might think that being a talking head pays well and that at least you’re still around the game, but it’s just not the same thing.
In any event, this whole situation is not cool.
I doubt most of you will remember this, but in the late 1990s there was a show called “The Jersey” on the Disney channel and Seau had a cameo on it. After the show was over Disney did a spot light on all the good things Seau was doing in the community and he became a hero of mine when I was younger. Just crushing to hear a childhood hero of mine would be involved in any of this.
he probably just pile-jumped on her

So…you’re confirming what others have suggested. That EVERYTHING in life revolves around Favre.
Look at the pictures of the cliff…..this is either a call for help or a legitimate traffic accident. If he really did drive off it on purpose, he must’ve realized it was a very survivable fall.
damn banannas.
/O’Doyle rules! O’Doyle rules!
Sounds like the Pollock who tried to commit suicide by jumping out the basement window.
This guy just can’t do anything right anymore.
If you actually read the fuller account
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/oct/18/junior-seau-injured-car-accident-tmz-reports-it-fo/
there isn’t much reason to suspect suicide.
Also “After he was released from custody, Seau drove his Cadillac Escalade off a cliff in Carlsbad.”
Uh, yeah…after Bob Jones went to kindergarten,
he retired. The time in between, though, is kinda relevant. There was like 5 hours between the
Seau events…not as fun and interesting as if
one actually immediately followed the other…
