MRI coming Monday for Antonio Gates

A league source tells us that Chargers tight end Antonio Gates will have an MRI on Monday following an ankle/foot injury he suffered in Sunday’s 20-17 loss to the Rams.

We’re told that Gates, who as Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune pointed out is wearing a protective boot, is experiencing a significant amount of pain.

It could mean that Gates won’t be available for Sunday’s game against the Patriots. He has been at time unstoppable in the Chargers offense despite the absence of receiver Vincent Jackson.

If he misses the game, the 2-4 Chargers could be headed to 2-5 in seven days.

Heck, they’re probably headed to 2-5, anyway.
